Bone The Fish - Most Recent Comments!

Who said you can't coin your own term? What is "Boning the Fish"? It's a moment. A defining moment when you know that your favorite TV Show, Celebrity, Movie Series or Music Group has reached its peak. That instant you know from now on...it's all downhill. Some call it a climax of sorts. We call it "Boning the fish". From that moment on things will simply never be the same.

Global warming - Random Topics
Again, I am aware that those changes can happen and have happend in the past, but not this extreme (at least not since the ice age). The melting polcaps are a problem, and that they are melting is a sad fact. And that is only one aspect of the problems the clima change brings. In california, the time for fires begins one day earlier and ends one day later every year. In Asia there are one flood after another. In africa they fight the droughts. In Germany there are suddenly more and more storms (which is not normal for this part of europe). And at places where nobody is prepared for something like that is suddenly gets really cold. Just because you are not affected (yet) does not mean that is doesn't exist. Yes, the weather was allways unpredictable, and we will never be able to change this. But that is no reason to blissfully destroy our enviroment. No money can pay for the air I have to breath. -- Submitted By: (Swanpride) on January 10, 2010, 7:21 am

Super Mario Bros. - Random Topics
Marcus, what difference does it make if Super Mario World is called Super Mario 4 or not? If you read the little story in the booklet it states that it takes place after Super Mario 3. Regardless of that, I think the series just kind of fizzled out after Super Mario World. They came up with all of these ridiculous games with Mario as a baby and Paper Mario, and all of those to where Mario is like a caricature for Nintendo. I think that realistically he was an 80s icon that should probably just be retired. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on January 9, 2010, 1:27 pm

Thanksgiving should just be called Christmas: The Prequel. It is hardly thought of as a holiday in the least bit. The only thing you hear about with Thanksgiving is the football games (which I'm not complaining about) and the Black Friday sales. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on January 9, 2010, 1:23 pm

Timon & Pumbaa - TV Shows
Timon and Pumbaa were great as secondary characters in the Lion King. Then when the sequels came out they had to put them front and center. Then they had to give them a TV show. All of this actually comes close to taking away from their appeal in the movie. That's why you have to watch the Lion King, like every Disney movie but The Rescuers, and treat it as if it were a standalone film. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on January 9, 2010, 1:22 pm

Again- the weather is ALWAYS CHANGING, on a daily and long term basis. They stopped calling it global warming because that part of the agenda didnt go so well since it has been colder- now it's "climate change" since the weather is so random and wild- again, like it always has been. Has earth's climate and weather ever even stayed static? Oh yeah, it never has. Climate change is a new convenient way for agenda pushers and politicians to work to regulate people's lives and steal freedom from people. Hey the weather is warmer today, time to pass a new law/agenda... pass the slaw and vinegar while were at it- here's to the next oncoming ice age! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on January 9, 2010, 11:40 am

Garfield Minus Garfield - Websites
Before this site I never realized how potentially crazy Jon could be, he seems like a clinically depressed, schizophrenic, delusional, suicidal man who needs a lot of therapy, and to me it seems a lot funnier as a result the current Garfield comics for the most part seem rather boring in comparison, like for instance in some strips he declares it to be the best day he's ever had with a big smile on his face and in the next panel he sitting in his chair crying, in panels where he's talking to or yelling at Garfield are especially funny because there is now no one there. A few of my favorite strips are when originally Garfield and Odie keep stealing his food and he screams when his food keeps disappearing and the last panel is of him being dragged off in a straight jacket saying "Food gone!, food all gone!" but in this strip he apparently forgets that he's eating the food and he looks back and forth repeatedly and screaming and being taken to an insane asylum, another one is where he's bored at New Years he develops this crazy look and invites the whole neighborhood to do the bunny hop with him only in this version he yells at his imaginary friends to party with him while hopping alone and telling "everyone" to join him while people look on, and when he's mad at Garfield and Odie saying they don't understand him and don't appreciate him but in this strip he's yelling at nothing. -- Submitted By: (comic_guy87) on January 9, 2010, 11:18 am

Well, that's the reason why they are calling it clima change by now insteat of Global warming. I will try to explain: The problem is that the temperatur on the whole word gets higher...not by much, but gradualy more and more. This means NOT that it is warmer everywhere...quite the opposite. It is more that the clima at whole changes. Ie places like Middle Europe, where there used to be a mild winter and a cold summer, suddenly get an ice winter and a very hot summer. Yes, we had very cold winters and very hot summers before...but not every freaking year! The mass of snow everybody is talking aboutat the moment is actually a sign FOR the clima change, not against it, like everybody seems to belive. -- Submitted By: (Swanpride) on January 9, 2010, 10:46 am

Not only does Seth MacFarlane not believe in Satan (or anything religious, for that matter), he'll also go out of his way to publicly announce his denial of a God and degrade anybody who actually does believe to the point where he comes off as an intolerant jackass. Powerpuff Girls, The - TV Shows
I knew already that they are not the cute little innocent girls they appear to be. That's PPG's most well-known running gags. As for their love of violence, I recall one episode where there was a fraud pretending to be a superhero. Upon learning that he staged his rescues, they staged a monster attack. When the monster attacked him, he begged the girls to save him. They would...but first he had to confess to the people of Townsville that he was a fraud. When the monster was "defeated" and the people were all gone, the monster spoke to the girls (I think his name was Fred). When the conversation ended, one of the girls punched him. For no reason. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on January 8, 2010, 1:08 pm

Twilight - Movie Series
JamesO: Twilight author Stephanie Meyer actually had an answer that made a lot of sense, when she was addressing a similar question (along the lines of why doesn't Edward go berserk with blood lust/thirst when it's Bella's time of the month). Meyer's answer was that vampires can only take nourishment from "live" blood, and the monthly supply you referred to isn't alive -- it's essentially dead debris being discarded, and therefore of no nutritional value (or culinary interest) to a vampire. -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on January 8, 2010, 11:47 am

Twilight - Movie Series
PRLrulz: Blade's already been nominated as someone we'd like to see visit the "Twi-verse," along with Buffy and Van Helsing, and my vote's for Blade (as I suspect yours is). But I don't think the glittery emo crew could stand up to ANY vampire slayer we could think of from comics, TV, movies, or books. To add another candidate, Eben Oleson (Josh Hartnett's character from 30 Days of Night) could kick some serious butt in the Twi-verse. In fact, I'd be inclined to question whether the emo vamps could even survive a visit from Charley Brewster ("Fright Night"). -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on January 8, 2010, 11:38 am

King Kong - Movie Series
King Kong boned the fish with the 2005 remake - why did it have to be so darn long, especially in the beginning? In the theatre, my girlfriend fell asleep during the trip to the island, and I didn't wake her until 45 minutes later when they FINALLY got to the island. She asked if she missed anything, and I said not much. On the flip side, the action scenes on the island and back in NYC were awesome, albeit still a bit long. I had the impression that Peter Jackson used his "influence capital" from the LOTR movies to get the Director's Cut straight to the screen - there was quite a lot that could have waited to be put on the DVD as deleted scenes. Don't get me wrong: King Kong is a GREAT story; I just don't think it's got enough to make a decent three-hour film. Merian C. Cooper did just fine with 105 minutes, but when Peter Jackson went for three hours, he bloated it into a fish-boner. I'm not buying this one on DVD until they come out with a Special CONDENSED Edition. -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on January 8, 2010, 11:17 am

The **Diet** New Coke was actually pretty good, and an improvement on the old diet formula ... Diet New Coke had a cinnamon taste to it, so it didn't taste nearly as much like diet soda as Diet Coke did before. Maskdt- I'd like to correct you- it is "assumed" to be getting warmer on average. As more of the Global Warming truth comes out (faked results, emails etc.) it becomes more apparent that it is a profit driven enterprise with an agenda, and therefore cannot be trusted. And My "neighborhood" includes North America which is gripped by record cold and has had a year marked by extremly mild heat and extreme cold. The weather is always "changing" and has over thousands of years, I'm eager for when "global cooling" comes back in vogue like it was many years ago. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on January 8, 2010, 6:06 am

Genesis - Music Groups
Actually, the first few albums after Gabriel carried on with the patented Genesis Progressive sound, especially "Trick Of The Tail" and "Wind And Wuthering". To me they slightly boned with "And Then There Were Three", a pretty weak album whose only claim to fame was "Follow You, Follow Me". But they de-boned with Duke, which to me was their last true prog album, albeit with a definite pop influence. But yes, once they recorded "Face Value" err, I mean "Abacab" they boned for good, with Phil Collins wielding the filet knife. -- Submitted By: (billdozer72) on January 7, 2010, 11:30 pm

I propose an alternative to outright censorship: warnings and making it harder to get a hold of offensive products. Swine Flu - Random Topics
I've had it. It sucks. It hit me much faster and harder than anything I've ever had before. The real danger with it is that it's highly contagious (spreads through the air whereas regular flu spreads through contact), hits faster and causes more severe symptoms. A healthy young person can fight it off; if you're very young, old or have a compromised immune system it can kill you very easily. As in, much more easily than regular flu. Since I can guarantee that, if you go out in public, you'll bump into someone who either fits one of those three categories or is in regular contact with someone who is, take precautions. You know, wash your hands thoroughly, don't rub your eyes right after touching a common area (such as stair banisters) and if you can get a vaccine for free, do so. A little precaution on your part won't hurt and it can prevent unnecessary deaths and suffering. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 7, 2010, 10:59 pm

Simpsons, The - TV Shows
One example of how the characters lost their humanity over the years: The end of one of the older episodes had Homer having a brush with death and he decides that from then on, he was going to live life to its fullest. The next scene shows him eating pork rinds and watching bowling. One might think that Homer considered doing something involving living life to it fullest but realized the work involved and said to heck with it. Or, perhaps eating pork rinds and watching bowling really was what Homer considered living life to its fullest. Either way you interpret it, the joke works and was a fun way to end an otherwise at least somewhat serious episode. My point being that back in those days, Homer felt a lot more human. Compare that to end of the Frank Grimes episode where they're at the Frank's funeral and (iirc) Homer *falls asleep* and half asleep asks Marge for something. Everyone laughs, the casket falls into the burial plot and the episode ends. -- Submitted By: (ExplodingConsole) on January 7, 2010, 6:57 pm

Vegetarianism, when done properly, is every bit as healthy as an omnivorous diet (when that's done properly as well). The problems come about when people do it improperly and don't get enough of nutrients such as iron, protein and calcium, and when they become self-righteous jerks. Most vegetarians are pretty good, though, and choose the lifestyle for a variety a reasons. Just don't confuse vegetarianism with veganism. Vegetarians come in all different flavors, from just not eating meat to refusing to eat anything with a face. Vegans don't eat meat or any animal products/by-products. In either case, the change should be gradual to prevent your body from going into shock and you should get advice from either a doctor or a nutritionist on how to meet all of your body's nutritional needs without eating meat. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 4:23 pm

It's really the difference between walking down a gentle slope and rushing down the drop on a roller coaster. Way too many shows have done the latter, I'm afraid. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 3:16 pm

Captain Planet and the Planeteers - TV Shows
Well I wouldn't expect a kid to be taking on some big corporation on pollution, or going after people who litter with little regard to what happens, but its a great idea to put into kids heads that they need to do good for the environment, even it its something little as cleaning a stream, or picking up litter on the side of a road -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on January 5, 2010, 3:09 pm

Steve Czaban - Celebrities
Why would Fox Sports Radio even get rid of Czaban in favor of some blowhard who even ESPN was tired of? -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on January 5, 2010, 3:05 pm

Terminator - Movie Series
I only think of the first two as being canon. The 3rd movie seemed unnecessary since T2 wrapped things up pretty well and the 4th...well...I prefer to think of the 4th as just a high-budget fan film. That frame of mind lets me get past the complete disregard for everything established by the first two movies and just enjoy seeing robots blowing things up. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 10:54 am

Captain Planet and the Planeteers - TV Shows
While the show had good intentions it never really taught kids any really effective means of helping the environment. Sure, you can clean up a part of a stream, but that won't do anything about the root problem (ie- littering, corporate pollution). Not that kids have any influence whatsoever over the root problems to begin with. Again, good intentions but largely ineffective. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 10:44 am

Steve Czaban - Celebrities
What happened to steve czaban? Show cancelled. To make room for Stephen A. Smith, Fox Sports Radio cancelled Steve Czaban's show after seven years. Czaban originally posted a lengthy post outlining his feelings on the move and saying while his agent wanted him to be positive, I'm not good at lying. And besides, you deserve the truth. The post was later removed, and replaced by one that began, To of my listeners at Fox Sports Radio, I wanted to let you know that come the end of the month I will be parting on good terms with the network. Czaban also announced that he will continue his local show in Washington D.C., which can be heard at www.espn980.com. -- Submitted By: (Hikariu) on January 5, 2010, 7:16 am

Griefer (internet) - Random Topics
Agreed. Griefers are one big reasons I really don't get into those online role playing games like Halo or World of Warcraft (not to mention some of those games are not my cup of tea, but thats a totally different subject). -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on January 5, 2010, 4:10 am

Griefer (internet) - Random Topics
Griefers are the main reason why I don't play online multiplayer anymore. Serious...2/3 of the time I'd end up playing with some jackass who just pissed everyone off. Doesn't help that I ended up in a Halo 3 deathmatch round with nothing BUT griefers once. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 4, 2010, 11:17 pm

Friday the 13th - Movie Series
For me, part 5 was the moment when I knew it was all going to be downhill. The series just wasn't actually scary anymore and on top of that, part 4 had tried to end the series before it was too late, but unfortunately it was too profitable to stop; at least they realized how silly the whole thing was becoming so they settled on making a couple of decent black comedies before the whole thing really tanked. Compared to the last few entries in the series, the remake was pretty decent. Not great, but at least it went back to the basics and tried to breathe some life back into a franchise that'd gone from dead to zombie years ago. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 4, 2010, 11:01 pm

JumptheShark.com - Websites
I am more upset that TVGuide threw $10 million in the trash and would love to know who made that call. There must have been some great marketing meeting where somebody in an overpriced suit convinced them that all of the followers would still follow them to the new blog site after they got rid of all of that JTS content. If TVGuide was smart, they would have embraced JTS and its followers and made it better. Really, who reads TV guide anyway and who even knew they had a website? If they embraced JTS, they could have JTS plus a thriving gossip site. Now they have neither. Could they really be concerned that people criticizing their shows on this site is hurting their sales? Are there really people THAT STUPID at TVGuide? Apparently so. -- Submitted By: (DavidSilverlight) on January 4, 2010, 3:05 pm

Chuck - TV Shows
Not sure if the show is about too, but I am predicting this season will be the Jump...errr. I mean boning.... Chuck was great as a normal guy forced into the spy world. Now that they are making him a real spy, I think it is the beginning of the end. Won't count it as boned yet, but not too optimistic -- Submitted By: (DavidSilverlight) on January 4, 2010, 2:19 pm

VH1 - Random Topics
VH-1 sadly, has turned into another banal, trendy network with reality shows and the like. Even their latest "countdown" show: "100 Most Shocking Musical Moments" was ridiculous. They left out moments such as the plane crash of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper, the death of John Bonham, the death of Keith Moon and a number of other great artists who were taken from us too soon, yet mention Chris Brown and Rhianna's fight as "shocking"? Puhleeze. And then, the assassination of John Lennon was only #2? Really? I don't know of any other incident in musical history that was more shocking than December 8, 1980. -- Submitted By: (Stephanie) on January 4, 2010, 11:35 am

Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve - TV Shows
I like what ocfernan said; Dick Clark still appearing is no different than getting together for your grandfather's 100th b-day party. I cried when I saw him the other night. It just would not be New Year's Eve without Dick Clark! -- Submitted By: (Stephanie) on January 4, 2010, 11:28 am

Wikipedia - Websites
If you want to guarantee an article on wikipedia for BTF, you have to find a reporter from a newspaper of a major metropolitan area ie(NY Times, Wash Post, LA Times, etc.) to write an article about BTF and the demise of JTS so you can have a good source to put in the wiki article that will help keep the deletionists at bay. -- Submitted By: (JamesO) on January 4, 2010, 10:18 am

Star Trek: The Animated Series - TV Shows
I agree that it was surprizingly deep- especially for a Saturday morning 1970's kid's show! Anyone else remember Spock somehow observing himself as a child and then finally get [almost]emotional over the loss of a beloved pet he hadn't allowed himself to think about in the intervening time? That was something! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on January 4, 2010, 7:20 am

Hey Vern, It's Ernest! - TV Shows
Stretching a commercial character into a full fledged show just did not WORK! Sad thing is that the late Jim Varney had FAR greater acting talent and skills than this character would have ever hinted at yet THIS is what is to be remembered for. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on January 4, 2010, 7:14 am

Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve - TV Shows
Just to be clear. Yes, as long as Dick Clark wants to and the network will have him, he has every right to keep doing the New Year's show. However; that alone doesn't mean I have to keep watching it when there's nothing on it I want to see anymore. However,if Dick Clark regains his moxie and DUMPS Ryan Seacrest, THEN I'll watch it again. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on January 4, 2010, 7:04 am

National Hockey League (NHL) - Random Topics
Probably. I live in Pennsylvania, and the Flyers and Penguins are huge around here. Even living in Lancaster, there is a hugely popular minor league team up the road (Hershey Bears). Guess the further south you are, or if you are not in one of those lucky southern/western cities that actually cares about their hockey, and has a team that puts out a winning product (like San Jose or Dallas), the less that is cared about hockey -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on January 4, 2010, 6:44 am

Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve - TV Shows
After reading the recent posts, I've come to agree that it would be wrong to ask Dick to step down. I think it's important to remember how easy it is to tell someone else to retire for one reason or another. Yes, it hasn't been the same since his stroke. However, I agree that he should still get to be there if he wants to be there and is able to be there. He's been hosting this for as long or longer then I think a decent percent of the people posting here have been alive. I think that should count for something. If he should decide one year that he's going to step down, I think we should respect that decision. Really though, it's a once a year thing. It's not as though it's daily or even weekly. Given that, the analogy about a Grandfather's 100th birthday is a good one. Yes, it's sad seeing Dick ill. However, if he wasen't there, it just wouldn't be the same. -- Submitted By: (ExplodingConsole) on January 4, 2010, 12:43 am

Max Headroom - TV Shows
Max Headroom never boned, simply because it wasn't on long enough (two seasons, 14 episodes). I don't believe that they had a plot arc planned up-front, so I think that it would have boned had it gone on another season or two. -- Submitted By: (tlesher) on January 3, 2010, 3:11 pm

Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve - TV Shows
True, he is so much a part of the show that it is essentially up to him. However, if I was nothing more than a rambling mess, and nobody could understand half of what I am saying, I would hope, regardless of what I say (or think I say), that you keep me off, or severely limit my role. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on January 2, 2010, 10:24 pm
