Global warming - Random Topics
Hey ChubbyRain: the planet as a whole is heating up. It's an average. While your little neighbourhood might seem unaffected, other places are getting noticeably hotter, droughts are getting worse and more frequent, deserts are expanding and ocean temperatures have risen. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 8, 2010, 12:05 am

Atkins Diet, the - Random Topics
Dr. Atkins specialized in cardiac health. While his diet was good for your heart, it deprived the rest of your body (including your brain) of vital nutrients, not to mention the fact that a good chunk of our calories (the energy our bodies need survive and function) come from carbohydrates. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 8, 2010, 12:03 am

Censorship - Random Topics
I propose an alternative to outright censorship: warnings and making it harder to get a hold of offensive products. It's not an outright ban, it'd just help to keep some of the more questionable things out of kids' reach. I personally am more likely to buy video games from a store that asks for ID when someone who may be (or obviously is) a minor wants to buy an "M" rated game. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 7, 2010, 11:11 pm

Rats - Random Topics
@swanpride: Ever hear of mosquitoes? Their death toll makes the rats' absolutely miniscule and there's jack all you can do to get rid of them. It's possible, although very expensive and resource-consuming, to get rid of rat populations, but mosquitoes are here to stay. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 7, 2010, 11:03 pm

Swine Flu - Random Topics
I've had it. It sucks. It hit me much faster and harder than anything I've ever had before. The real danger with it is that it's highly contagious (spreads through the air whereas regular flu spreads through contact), hits faster and causes more severe symptoms. A healthy young person can fight it off; if you're very young, old or have a compromised immune system it can kill you very easily. As in, much more easily than regular flu. Since I can guarantee that, if you go out in public, you'll bump into someone who either fits one of those three categories or is in regular contact with someone who is, take precautions. You know, wash your hands thoroughly, don't rub your eyes right after touching a common area (such as stair banisters) and if you can get a vaccine for free, do so. A little precaution on your part won't hurt and it can prevent unnecessary deaths and suffering. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 7, 2010, 10:59 pm

New Coke - Random Topics
Don't slam it if you've never had it. Seriously, before the one group that worked in the bottling company complained people were actually okay with New Coke. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 4:34 pm

Organic Farming - Random Topics
The whole thing is defeated when your organic food was trucked hundreds, if not thousands, of miles to your grocery store. Those trucks are far from energy-efficient and pollute the air like you wouldn't believe. Buy local and grow your own whenever possible. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 4:31 pm

Vegetarianism - Random Topics
Vegetarianism, when done properly, is every bit as healthy as an omnivorous diet (when that's done properly as well). The problems come about when people do it improperly and don't get enough of nutrients such as iron, protein and calcium, and when they become self-righteous jerks. Most vegetarians are pretty good, though, and choose the lifestyle for a variety a reasons. Just don't confuse vegetarianism with veganism. Vegetarians come in all different flavors, from just not eating meat to refusing to eat anything with a face. Vegans don't eat meat or any animal products/by-products. In either case, the change should be gradual to prevent your body from going into shock and you should get advice from either a doctor or a nutritionist on how to meet all of your body's nutritional needs without eating meat. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 4:23 pm

Democratic Socialists of America - Random Topics
Brewmaster -- Compared to similar parties in other countries, the Democrats tend to be more "left of center" than actually leftist. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 4:04 pm

Mac vs. PC Commercials - Random Topics
Sure, Mac is better at creative stuff, but it's also more expensive. I'm quite content with my PC because it does what I need it to do and didn't cost me an arm and a leg. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 3:58 pm

Super Smash Bros. Series - Random Topics
I've played all 3 and overall the series is...okay. There's nothing that'll really blow your mind, but it is fun to play with family and friends. Too bad about the last bit of the single-player in Brawl; making players have to replay stages to get to the end boss is just cheap. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 3:56 pm

Pokemon - Random Topics
Too many Pokemon (they actually changed the slogan because it's damn near impossible to "catch 'em all" anymore) and the games make you jump through hoops to get some of them. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 3:50 pm

America's Funniest Home Videos - TV Shows
Goddam babies! I know they're cute and I know that the parents and families think they're funny, but if you've seen one baby blow spit bubbles or burp, you've seen them all. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 3:23 pm

Simpsons, The - TV Shows
Well, it did bone the fish, but at least it's been coasting down. More a gradual decline of quality. It's really the difference between walking down a gentle slope and rushing down the drop on a roller coaster. Way too many shows have done the latter, I'm afraid. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 3:16 pm

Terminator - Movie Series
I only think of the first two as being canon. The 3rd movie seemed unnecessary since T2 wrapped things up pretty well and the 4th...well...I prefer to think of the 4th as just a high-budget fan film. That frame of mind lets me get past the complete disregard for everything established by the first two movies and just enjoy seeing robots blowing things up. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 10:54 am

Captain Planet and the Planeteers - TV Shows
While the show had good intentions it never really taught kids any really effective means of helping the environment. Sure, you can clean up a part of a stream, but that won't do anything about the root problem (ie- littering, corporate pollution). Not that kids have any influence whatsoever over the root problems to begin with. Again, good intentions but largely ineffective. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 10:44 am

Griefer (internet) - Random Topics
Griefers are the main reason why I don't play online multiplayer anymore. Serious...2/3 of the time I'd end up playing with some jackass who just pissed everyone off. Doesn't help that I ended up in a Halo 3 deathmatch round with nothing BUT griefers once. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 4, 2010, 11:17 pm

Friday the 13th - Movie Series
For me, part 5 was the moment when I knew it was all going to be downhill. The series just wasn't actually scary anymore and on top of that, part 4 had tried to end the series before it was too late, but unfortunately it was too profitable to stop; at least they realized how silly the whole thing was becoming so they settled on making a couple of decent black comedies before the whole thing really tanked. Compared to the last few entries in the series, the remake was pretty decent. Not great, but at least it went back to the basics and tried to breathe some life back into a franchise that'd gone from dead to zombie years ago. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 4, 2010, 11:01 pm
