Music Groups - Pantera

Pantera was an American heavy metal band from Arlington, Texas, formed by the Abbott brothers, Vinnie Paul (drums) and "Dimebag" Darrell (guitar), then known as Diamond Darrell, in 1981. Bassist Rex Brown would join in 1982 and in 1987 Phil Anselmo would become the group's lead vocalist, completing the band's most successful lineup that would remain together for 16 years. Although initially influenced by 1970s rock bands such as Kiss and Van Halen, Pantera's style would change by the late 1980s. Pantera subsequently became a key formulator of the post-thrash subgenre of groove metal.

1 I think if that if there wasn't harsh bad blood between Vinnie/Dimebag and Phil, I would've liked to think Dimebag would probably still have been around us today. Granted I'm not saying that the formation of Damageplan was a bad thing, because Damageplan was good and would've been nice to see more material from them. Soon as Dimebag died, that was it, the band was gone as fast as it was formed. Can't believe it'll be 10 years next year since Dimebag has died. 2 I'm not suggesting that it was a boning moment but I think Reinventing The Steel was beneath Pantera's talent level. Just my opinion though. -- Submitted By: (Jp) on March 29, 2013, 4:21 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
3 I don't understand why people base their view of Pantera - if and when it boned - on an event (Dime's death) which occurred a full year after the band broke up. Phil basically ended the band in 2003; Dime and Vinnie then formed Damageplan. It's fair to say Damageplan boned when Dime was killed; in fact, the band pretty much melted away after that. But Pantera did not exist at the time of Dime's death, and thus it could not have boned because of that death. 4 I agree that their albums improved without boning. I got to meet Dimebag once in music store and got his autograph. He was one of the nicest celebreties that ever was. Truly a tragedy - RIP -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on April 7, 2011, 7:01 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
5 Pantera never boned. In fact, they reverse-boned, getting better with each album right up to the bitter end. -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on April 7, 2011, 3:48 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
