TV Shows - Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, The

The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet is an American sitcom, airing on ABC from October 3, 1952 to September 3, 1966, starring the real life Nelson family. The series starred Ozzie Nelson and his wife, singer Harriet Nelson, and their young sons, David Nelson and Eric Nelson, better known as Ricky. The series attracted large audiences, and although it was never a top-ten hit, it became synonymous with the 1950s ideal American family life. It is the longest-running "live-action"/non-animated sitcom in US TV history.

1 In reality, Ozzie Nelson was a sharp business whiz but a tyrant of a father. His wife had no idea how to cook and the poor boys were screwed up beyond hope. Thank goodness Rick made a successful transition to the music world (even dying a rock star's death), so that we would remember him for something besides this phony, whitebread situation comedy. -- Submitted By: (GregEichelberger) on February 24, 2010, 10:48 pm - (-8 votes) - Login to Vote
2 I can't bash this squeaky clean white bread show because, as a youth I watched it religiously. There was nothing better in the late 60s on network TV. There was only 3 channels at the time. I have fond memories of this show. I do know this, that I don't believe that there is no such family in America. -- Submitted By: (fletch000) on February 10, 2010, 5:33 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
3 Ozzie and Harriet Nelson created a " scripted reality based sitcom", as I call it, which portrayed the day in and day out inner workings and dynamics of the average American family. Even in watching it today, one can identify with the scenarios in the episodes. It's charming, decent and an American institution! It ran for 14 years on ABC (1952 - 1966) and by 1957, a 17 year old Ricky Nelson stepped up behind the microphone to sing and the rest is history. Rest in peace, Ozzie, Harriet and Rick. We still miss you. -- Submitted By: (Stephanie) on June 5, 2009, 11:42 am - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
