Hall & Oates are a pop music duo made up of Daryl Hall and John Oates. The act achieved its greatest fame in the late 1970s and early to mid-1980s. They specialized in a fusion of rock and roll and rhythm and blues styles, which they dubbed "rock and soul." They are best known for their six #1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100: "Rich Girl", "Kiss on My List", "Private Eyes", "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)", "Maneater", and "Out of Touch", as well as many other songs which charted in the Top 40. They have sold 60 million albums worldwide. They last reached the pop top forty in 1990 and then slowly faded from public view, though they did not formally break up. They have continued to record and tour with some success. In total, the act had thirty-four singles chart on the US Billboard Hot 100. As of 2006[update], Hall and Oates have seven RIAA platinum albums, along with six RIAA gold albums. A greatest hits compilation was released in 2001 from Bertelsmann Music Group. The BMG collection was expanded in 2004 and reissued the following year, after BMG merged with Sony Music Entertainment. In 2003, Daryl Hall and John Oates were voted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

I think in the 80s, around when they did "Maneater". After that it seemed like every single they released rocketed up the charts and was overplayed accordingly. In fact, the 1980s the decade of overplayed hit songs. That's probably why "That 80s Show" didn't work out. It was the decade itself that sucked, and nobody wants to watch a show about a decade that sucked. -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on July 23, 2012, 4:18 pm - (-3 votes) - Login to Vote
Music was okay but it got annoying how they seemed to act as though every single syllable they sang and note they played was better than anything that anyone else had ever played before to say nothing of how they took themselves far too seriously in some of the most bogus music videos ever made [e.g. "She's Gone"].Levity never seemed to meet them. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on May 1, 2012, 1:43 pm - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
Their music is OK and they helped define the 80's. They went a fishin a couple of years ago when they cancelled a concert in Arizona because of the states immigration law. Arizona insists on upholding the law and for that Hall and Oates won't sing? Say it isn't so. Maybe they need a little Adult Education. Perhaps someone should talk to them, one on one. I think they may be out of touch on this one. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on March 18, 2012, 3:57 am - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote

What will it take to induct these guys into the rock and roll hall of fame? Aren't they the most successful duo of all time? They had hit after hit after hit and topped the charts six times and were very influential. -- Submitted By: (JayD) on June 29, 2010, 11:22 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
