I guess Ricky was their Cousin Oliver. -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on September 12, 2016, 1:13 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I don't think the Partridge Family was a Brady Bunch knockoff despite some similarites. They were two different kinds of families. One was a single parent family; the other was a blended family. If anything, Brady became a Partridge knock off when they started to sing. -- Submitted By: (JayD) on July 17, 2012, 12:50 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Probably true about Ricky only appearing in a few shows. Probably just seems like more in reruns, but it was still more than we needed. I wonder if he was put on there to shut up the fans who still had their panties in a knot over Jeremy Gelbwaks, who by many accounts was all but begging to be canned with his off camera hyjinx. -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on June 15, 2012, 2:39 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Little Ricky only appeared in a few episodes and for the most part only appeared at the end of an episode to do one of his dopey little songs. -- Submitted By: (JayD) on March 6, 2012, 4:39 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Totally. I think that "The Fonzie Effect" is a category/reason unto itself. I say we start using it where applicable. -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on March 6, 2012, 9:40 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Frederich, I'm glad you liked my Fonzie effect. I thought of a few others; Rerun and even Shirley from What's happening, Frazier from Cheers, and maybe Latka Gravas (Andy Kaufman) from Taxi. this needs to be a new term for BTF. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on March 5, 2012, 5:43 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
"... at least we never had to see Reuben getting busy with Shirley." LOL!!! No kidding! "The Fonzie Effect" OMG! I love that term! and yes, you are so right about that. -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on March 5, 2012, 10:56 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
This was a pretty good show that was actually based on a real life group, the Cowsills. They kind of boned when they replaced a dark skinned brown haired Chris with a fair skinned blond. They absolutely boned when Ricky the neighbor showed up. at least we never had to see Reuben getting busy with Shirley. The bottom line is that the show was always about teen idol David Cassidy period. The family was just props to make him seem safer by being on a family show. The characters of Reuben and Danny developed beyond what the producers had envisioned in what could be called "The Fonzie Effect", which is whenever any character becomes more popular than originally intended. Other characters who attained this Fonzie Effect would be Urkel from Family Matters, Flo from Alice, Barbarino from Welcome Back Kotter, Gomer Pyle from The Andy Griffith Show, and JJ from Good Times. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on March 3, 2012, 6:16 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Laurie & Mom were on a camping trip by themselves. Keith, Danny and Reuben tried to sneak up and spy on them. None of the guys considered bringing food or changes of clothing. Keith brought a guitar instead - while trying to sneak up on the girls! -- Submitted By: (OldsVistaCruiser) on April 19, 2011, 6:48 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Never liked this Mommy and kids in a R&R band - it was too "cartoonish" -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on December 1, 2010, 3:07 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Funny draft theory, Chrissy M! However; had Mr. Partidge lived he'd have been way too old for the US military to have considered worth drafting . However; it would have made an interesting episode had this issue come up for Keith but I think "The Partridge Family" maintained the usual de rigeur sitcom silence re the existance of the Vietnam War- even though it was supposed to be a quasi-semi countercultural show! I mean, unless they came upon Norman Lear shows, alien beings/future archaelogists would have NO idea the Vietnam War ever happened were they to base their findings on US sitcoms of that era. Not a bad idea about Mr. Partridge being on "The A-Team" - if only because Danny was far more strategically conniving than the rest of the clan and he certainly didn't get it from Shirley so he'd have had to have gotten from somewhere! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on July 11, 2009, 11:39 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Hey Pelligro I think Mr. Partridge musta have been successful evading the draft in Canada or was back from Nam on the run back in the L.A area working underground as the Leader of the A-team, AKA. Handiballs Smith -- Submitted By: (ChrissyM) on July 10, 2009, 7:57 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I always thought it was curious that, apart from Shirley saying they'd started their singing six months after his death, there was NEVER a single reference to Mr. Partridge in the entire show- even when recalling pre-singing times when he'd have presumably been still alive and living in their home! And, of course, just like with the 1st Mrs. Andy Taylor, the Brady parents' departed spouses, etc. there wasn't any visit by any of his relatives to family despite his children being their family, too. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on May 6, 2009, 7:36 am - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
