Linda Lavin's hairdo killed the show. She looked bad when she cut it short. The show went downhill, and that's why Diane Ladd left the cast. She refused to share the stage with it! -- Submitted By: (likewow) on October 23, 2013, 3:28 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Mel's Diner was where the cast of Hee Haw went to have dinner after taping their show. Seriously, it did bone when Alice kept singing and Flo flew the coop. What I didn't understand about the show was that there was only one cook, Mel. There were also only three waitresses and they usually all worked the same shift, even if they outnumbered the diners. The regulars were kind of funny too, especially the weasely guy who wore glasses. Flo, order up! -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on March 6, 2012, 12:20 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
When Flo left, the show lost a good supporting character and spawned a terrible spinoff -- Submitted By: (John63btf) on December 27, 2011, 7:27 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
This show actually started out OK. Then after the second season, it tanked. Linda Lavin got a big head & really thought she could sing. She couldn't. Then came the poor writing. It was like a bad Vaudeville act. Someone should have given her the cane after the first season. -- Submitted By: (syzygy) on February 15, 2010, 4:37 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
diezman, That was a cold comment. Funny as hell, but cold still. "3 tooth, marlboro red smoking trailer trash." I'll remember that the next time I get mad at a waitress in the waffle house. -- Submitted By: (fletch000) on February 10, 2010, 5:48 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

This show boned from day one. Someone convinced CBS to make a TV show based off the movie called "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore". The film was an Oscar nominated drama (for it's screenplay) and it gets turned into a piece of crap comedy that needed cammed laughter for people to know it was suppose to be funny. Add in the death nail of Linda Lavin's singing and the whole thing turns into one flaming bag of dog poo on the doorsteps of humanity. -- Submitted By: (meQal) on October 28, 2009, 5:49 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Greg, someone on the Site That Shall Not Be Named, once likened Miss Lavin's attempts to sing akin to weasels being tortured by grapefruit spoons and I have to agree! It was barely watchable before but it boned entirely when Flo left. She may not have been a hot young thing but she was funny and clever- unlike anyone else connected with this show. It's telling, too, that Polly Holliday had before and continues to have had since this show a steady career playing a wide variety of comedic and dramatic roles. Where has everyone else been? -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on July 18, 2009, 2:22 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
I'm wondering if the same guy who once told Tim Allen he was funny also told Linda Lavin that she had a good singing voice. Just curious ... -- Submitted By: (GregEichelberger) on July 18, 2009, 4:53 am - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
I liked the way CBS tried to make it seem like the waitresses at Mel's Diner (Alice, Flo and Vera) were even halfway attractive; much like the network's failed campaign to prove that M*A*S*H's Loretta Swift was a "hot" female. Early seasons of the show, when Mel was mean, acerbic and politically-incorrect were okay, but later just became silly. After all, how much "kissing grits" could America handle? -- Submitted By: (GregEichelberger) on July 14, 2009, 11:49 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
Tommy was a goon... and vera made me wanna puke. -- Submitted By: (EricP) on June 11, 2009, 8:46 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
This was a show that could've gone a little longer, but with Lavins contract forcing them to let her sing, which she couldn't, and Polly Holliday leaving it was a foundering boat and they couldn't bail fast enough. -- Submitted By: (Bobsuruncle) on June 9, 2009, 12:41 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
