I knew MTV was done when I saw shows like "My Sweet 16" about preppy princess bitches who want their perfect birthdays celebrated in obnoxious exaggerated fashions. I remember vaguely a clip of a show where some snobby little brat bitch was throwing a temper tantrum. Because her parents bought her a car that she didn't want. I mean, crying, red-faced, screaming type of tantrum. It was like "be fucking grateful you little twat, not everyone gets a brand new car of ANY brand just simply bought for them because everyone else has to work for it while you get handed everything through rich parents." Shows like "Pimp My Ride" where the idea of the show was kinda cool, I'll admit. It best belonged elsewhere than MTV. However, it died when it became more about "how many ridiculous things can we cram into a vehicle?" I mean how often would someone use a flat screen that flipped up from the inside of your trunk or EVERY door can flip vertically? Some shit like that. Seemed like the more things they cram into your re-made vehicle. The more it's prone to get crashed into if you happen to be that distracted. You mind as well just have asked them to simply give you new parts and give it a new nifty paint job, and call it good. And the one show I hate the most seeing is "16 and Pregnant" where it shows nothing but idiot girls with idiot guys getting babies together. Big. Fucking. Whoop. It's bad enough this shit happens in reality, but we have to project it on a TV screen for ALL to see. I don't care what troubles some girl goes through being the early mom and whatever they try cramming down the viewer's throat for sympathy points. YOU SHOULD'VE THOUGHT FIRST BEFORE HAVING KIDS YOU DUMB BITCH! MTV has long been dead. I don't miss it and I never have watched it besides the unfortunate pausing moments I had to take just to see the above on how corroded it's become. -- Submitted By: (Infyrin) on January 10, 2014, 5:41 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Miley Cyrus is untalented trailer-park trash. Also, why in the world do they still have video music awards if they never show music videos except for two hours really early in the morning? -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on August 27, 2013, 1:10 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
MTV wouldnt show MJ's videos originally, because they felt his style didn't fit the "rock" genre which they mainly catered to at the time. They did show black artist, such as Hendrix, The Busboys and John Butcher Axis, as those were considered "rock". MJ didn't want to accept this, so he played the race card. MTV relented and proceeded to increasingly suck throughout the remainder of its life. I stopped watching altogether in the mid-1980s, but I stopped enjoying it around 1984. I also credit MTV with being the main catalyst behind the epidemic of "Swelled Head Syndrome" that pretty much sabotaged popular music in the mid-1980s. Funny thing is their ratings declined during this period, but instead of seeing the truth for what it was (they alienated their original audience by showing Michael Jackson, Billy Ocean and other lame Top-40 crap videos), they decided to launch "programming" like "Remote Control"....another fish boning moment. -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on August 27, 2012, 11:55 am - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
Of course when Music Television stops showing music it bones big time. I can't even stomach the garbage they show now. I flipped over and saw some of Jersey Show and just thought, who the heck cares? Total Crapola. Flip over the VH1 Classic. They show all the old videos and they have a cool show called That Metal Show. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on March 1, 2012, 2:02 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Beavis and Butthead may be back, but it still has a LONG way to go before it unbones, if even. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on December 1, 2011, 6:39 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
MTV aka the shithole station: Proudly ruining teens lives by showing useless reality crap like 16 and Pregant, The Hill and Jersey Shore. Turning little girls into spoiled whores and little boys into obuxious drunks. -- Submitted By: (SSM) on April 17, 2011, 7:29 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

This channel used to show music videos, but soon they became hands down the worst channel on tv by showing nothing but incredibly stupid reality tv shows featuring untalented hacks, internet nobodies, washed up hacks, and wannabes. They also showcase incredibly lame and talentless (c)rap artists who never even lived in the "ghetto" and would scream like a little bitch if someone pulled out a butterknife in their faces. The rock bands are faggots who call themselves punk when real punks would kick the fuck out of them and lame ass "metal" bands who are pussies wearing makeup and tight pants and lack any sufficent amount of talent other than screaming in a microphone and playing the same 1 chord over and over for 4 minutes. The other "artists" are horrible pop singers who are either underage, have severe gender ambiguity, and lack any talent other than singing with machines and autotune to help them "sing". The worst part is that all of the garbage is targeted towards children, who grow up to be skanks and douchebags. The media watchdogs don't bother trying to advocate against this horrible station because they are too busy rallying against videogames. Even though videogames have been proven to have no violent impact on children. They fail to notice MTV is broadcasting soft-core pornography, violent images, and is teaching children that if they are not like the people on this channel, they are freaks and misfits. MTV is the devil in true living form. One can hope this channel is destroyed, for if not, it will continue to destroy humanity. All I can do is pray for the future of mankind. -- Submitted By: () on January 2, 2011, 6:21 pm - (4 votes) - Login to Vote
At least Viacom had the decency to remove the "Music Television" tagline from the logo this past year. If you look at it now, it's gone. I was born in the mid 80s, so I remember the different phases of MTV, from it's new wave/Michael Jackson phase to it's post hair-metal/grunge phase to it's post-grunge/bevis and butthead/Singled Out phase to screw the college aged audience, we're going for teens/TRL/bubble gum pop phase to screw music we're the one stop shop for trashy television phase. Haven't really watched a full show in probably five plus years on the channel. Last thing I watched was the tribute to Michael Jackson because surprisingly MTV played videos, had news reports and VJs that seemed into the music. What a concept! Too bad it only lasted two-three days. If I need a music video fix, I either check out Fuse or look up different videos online. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on November 9, 2010, 5:21 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

Jersey Shore and all those other reality shows are what killed MTV. Need I say more? Oh, the Wikipedia link on this article is broken. -- Submitted By: (MacFan95) on October 29, 2010, 9:30 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
When the music videos stopped and it became all reality shows was when MTV boned big time. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on October 28, 2010, 8:46 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Definitely boned when they pretty much stopped airing Music videos. In fact, they should pretty much rename the channel RTV. -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on July 9, 2010, 12:06 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
There is just way too much to tell here. I believe the first non-music based show they put on was a game show called "Remote Control" and it just went downhill from there. This was also marathoned to death like MTV loves to do which ruins everything if you don't like the program that they shove down your throat. A critic just noticed that "Jersey Shore" isn't anything special, it's just that MTV keeps playing which makes an artifical buzz. In the 80's I liked being surprised by which video they would show next and weren't limited to one genre of music. Rock, rap, new wave, etc. It didn't matter, I just wanted to see a fun music video and not just focus on one type of music. -- Submitted By: (JamesO) on May 26, 2010, 12:59 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I remember being into MTV from 1994-1999. There were still videos on the channel usually during the day and then it went to shows at night and on weekends. I loved most of the videos, I had to change the channel when rap came on because my dad didn't like it. The channel I would say began to suck in 1999 when TRL became the only video show and was over focused on Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, N Sync, Christina Agulera, Eminem, and mostly anything I hated. Nowadays there are only a few groups from the past decade that I like mainly Green Day, Weezer, Franz Ferdinand, and Ben Folds. All other music I listen to usually has a 1997 or earlier copyright date. -- Submitted By: (jconifer7) on May 14, 2010, 4:41 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I watched MTV back in the early years up to 84 when I didn't have cable anymore. In those days it was very addictive, I could watch it all the time to see all the cool and crappy video's that the bands were putting out. In those days there wasn't an inexpensive way to make great videos (DV cameras and iMovie) so only a few bands actually put out a video. Now even low budget bands put out videos, but only on youtube or break.com . I keep looking for a channel to watch videos, but once I find one they go through the same tranformation. MTV2 was music for a year or two before it mirrored MTV. Fuse used to be decent for music, but it too has gone the same direction. I don't understand what is going on. At least Youtube video quality is getting better and better so I can see bands release videos there. Is there any other channels or websites that are dedicated to music videos? I would like to know. 17 Granted, MTV has some good shows come on every once in a while, but its mostly become garbage TV, and now when it seems they do show music videos, its a short clip of it, and its some crappy pop group. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on January 23, 2010, 4:56 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
The other day, I was reading old issues of "Consumer Reports" in my college library: one issue was from September 1987 and the other was from September 1991. (Sorry, I don't have the links because these were print copies from waaaay back...) Anyway, the 1987 issue (page 551) had a list of 15 basic cable channels, and at the bottom of the list, MTV, listed as "35% Excellent/Very Good!" (CNN was #1 at its time.) Four years later (pp. 578-579), more channels were added over time, and still, MTV was the second only to BET as a horrible network (listed as "40% Excellent/Very Good!"); the Discovery Channel (back when it was worth watching, of course!) was the highest ranked basic channel for its time. Since MTV was ACTUALLY a music channel (for the most part) in the late 80s/early 90s, was "Consumer Reports" very critical, or did they actually predict the downfall of that channel along with all of cable TV? Whatever the case, what a coincidence! -- Submitted By: (SVN) on January 22, 2010, 3:48 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
How the hell does MTV even exist nowadays? I don't get how they are still showing TV shows on their network, even though they already have a channel dedicated for that. Hell, even when Beavis and Butthead was still around, they showed music videos when it was on. Hell, like the guy below me said, the Hills is everything that is wrong with TV today. -- Submitted By: (CianNkiller) on November 3, 2009, 7:59 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Two words: "The Hills". (Granted, MTV was dying a slow death once shows like "Beavis And Butt-Head" and "The State" were replaced with garbage such as "TRL", but the final nail in the coffin of MTV's relevancy came when they developed a show that represents everything currently wrong with TV in general.) -- Submitted By: (TheTruth) on October 30, 2009, 2:23 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
