The New York Yankees are a professional baseball team based in the borough of the Bronx, in New York City, New York and are a member of the Eastern Division of Major League Baseball's American League. One of the American League's eight charter franchises, the club was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1901 as the Baltimore Orioles, and moved to New York City in 1903, becoming known as the New York Highlanders before being officially renamed the "Yankees" in 1913. 1 The Yankees couldn't please everyone if they tried. On one side, you have the people gloating over them not having won the series in however many years. On the other, you have the people whining that they win EVERY YEAR because they over pay. Of course, both can't be the case, so what we have is two groups of whiners who don't like the Yankees, but for opposing reasons that can't both be correct. In fact, we won in 2000, then again in 2009 I believe. If results are what matters, clearly the Yankees aren't buying the WS year after year. Take a lesson from Booker T. Washington and worry about making your own teams better rather than blaming mine for your inability to do so. If you had the money to spend, you'd be spending it, maybe not as much as the Yankees, but a helluva lot more than the Pirates, who I doubt you'd pity if you won. -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on August 27, 2012, 3:24 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
The only time I disliked the Yankees was when they swept my favorite team, the San Diego Padres, in the 1998 World Series. But that dislike was short-lived in the light of the fact the Padres could have won a couple of games in that particular World Series if their relief pitchers didn't throw gopher balls (pitches that were easy to hit) all the time. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on April 10, 2011, 9:06 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
My entire (direct) family comes from the New York City area, so as you can guess, they love the Yankees and hate the Red Sox. However, my brother was always a Mets fan, and I don't have much feelings either way. -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on April 9, 2011, 9:35 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
HA!!! Good one Soggy9000!!! I've got one: rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for Bill Gates to win the Powerball lottery. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on April 9, 2011, 5:52 pm - (-2 votes) - Login to Vote
A Yankees fan is someone who would root for Carl Lewis to beat your grandmother in a hundred-meter race - and then laugh at her when she fell down halfway to the finish line and broke her hip. -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on April 9, 2011, 3:17 pm - (-2 votes) - Login to Vote
The Yankees and their fans seem to think that it is divine providence or their birthright that they get a World Series ring every year, 'cauese they paid for it. Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18 -- Submitted By: (BrewMaster) on July 14, 2009, 11:11 am - (-2 votes) - Login to Vote
Most well known team in baseball? Yes. Most loved? That's HIGHLY debatable. BTW anyone else notice that the Yanks haven't won a World Series in nearly ten years? -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on June 11, 2009, 4:22 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
