Websites - JumptheShark.com

A defining moment when you know that your favorite television program has reached its peak. That instant that you know from now on...it's all downhill. Some call it the climax. We call it "Jumping the Shark." From that moment on, the program will simply never be the same. he term "jump the shark" was coined by site founder Jon Hein's college roommate of 4 years, Sean J. Connolly, in Ann Arbor, Michigan back in 1985. This web site, book, film, and all other material surrounding shark jumping, are hereby dedicated to "the Colonel." The aforementioned expression refers to the telltale sign of the demise of Happy Days, our favorite example, when Fonzie actually "jumped the shark." The rest is history. Jumping the shark applies not only to TV, but also music, film, even everyday life. We invite you to comment when any show jumped the shark.

In the end, JtS became what it was mocking. Thank goodness for BtF, because there's no way I'm going to spend any time trying to find the old posts at that awful TV Guide shit stain. Apparently, nothing is sacred anymore. -- Submitted By: (JLer2562) on September 14, 2009, 10:24 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I have never seen a Website ruined in such a short order! When I first saw the new design I first thought the Website went down for some reason...then I tried to navigate the thing and found self advertising, self advertising and even more selv advertising. The name of the site used to tell us what the theme of the site is...now it tells us, what the site itself is! -- Submitted By: (Swanpride) on September 5, 2009, 2:37 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

I'd pay cash money to know that kitchenbreak- everyone should make fun of them on their site- they deserve it! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on August 1, 2009, 1:10 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

I just found this place today. It's nice to find that the crowd that used to frequent JTS has found a new home. Fortunately, I kept my own personal copies of the content I sent to "the place that shall not be named", and I'll start putting them up in the appropriate places here. -- Submitted By: (Eugene) on July 23, 2009, 12:15 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Here is the last comment on there... For some reason, my wonderful poem was deleted. As a favor to readers, let me re-post it: There once was a fella named Timmy Molloy Who suits up in Radnor did choose to employ. Their mission was clear; their mission was dark They wanted to "fix" the site "Jump the Shark." And Timmy obeyed, just like sheep in their flocks; He'd seen what had happened to poor Erin Fox. So change it they did, like a prince to a frog They turned it into a "what's on TV" blog. A once proud, great site, now but , alas, it's gone dark C'mon, TV Guide, give us back "Jump the Shark!" I made a few changes, for the better, I think you'll agree. Bye! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on July 22, 2009, 10:08 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I noticed that the JTS site has still no new content? Also all of the recent comments about JTS sucking have been removed from the last TV blog "article" Really makes you wonder what is going on at this trainwreck! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on July 22, 2009, 10:07 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I'd pay cash money to know what is going on at the Scottish Site, I bet some people ahve gotten fired, and you have to wonder if BONE THE FISH" was mentioned at their satan worshipping corporate meetings. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on July 19, 2009, 7:02 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Wow I went to take a peek and everything is gone the blog stuff is gone! -- Submitted By: (kitchenbreak) on July 18, 2009, 9:26 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Just went over to the Scottish Site, what a MESS!!! There are no new gossip blogs and Erin Fox, the hatchet lady that wrote on there is gone. Fired? Can anyone figure this out? Also there are no comments there except people slamming the site, and there are very few of those. I wonder if all of the other user comments on the blog articles were TV Guide employees or bots? Check it out, it is really a sad and odd sight to behold, and a guy even wrote a poem on there!! Here it is...thanks A.S. MARTBOY (As published on the Scottish site..) As I was cutting the lawn yesterday, the rich history of this site moved me to poetry. I hope you enjoy it: There once was a man named Timmy Molloy Who people at Radnor did choose to employ. Their mission was clear; their mission was dark: "We'll go fix the site they call 'Jump the Shark.'" And Timmy assisted, like lambs in their flocks; He'd seen what had happened to poor Erin Fox. The suits made a change, like a prince to a frog They turned it into a "whats on TV" blog. But with 4 dismal comments, it's starting to fade It's been almost 2 weeks, no columns been made. Think of your ratings, please heed this remark: "C'mon, TV Guide, give us back "Jump the Shark!" Thank you. Thank you very much...... -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on July 15, 2009, 7:18 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I remember the Best comment on the old JTS I read was some New Yorker complaining about Adam Rich of Eight is Enough & wanting to knock his Coke Head out of Shea Stadium. What was ur favorite? -- Submitted By: (ChrissyM) on July 13, 2009, 6:15 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
You can check out the website traffic from JTS. About one year ago in May they had about 74.000 visitors that month now its just about 7900 visitors a month ( no I didn't forget a zero). I can't gloat but it's delighting to see. I'm sorry TVGuide/Gemstar but you bought a website just to get 7000 visits a month now. Ah the irony. Go to the link below and see the decline from may 2008 to now it's pathetic. 93 I have been a huge fan of JTS from 2003 till 2006. I stopped viewing there site because my jobs firewall would freak because of the cuss words in some of the user inputs. I loved that site and now was able to view it again. Wow! When I went there I thought something was wrong...tv guide...WTF? It looks totally different. It reminds me of any generic corporate celebrity blog site. I can not believe they bought the site just to gut the thing out. It is not even close to being the same. I spent my night looking at what happened and a nice alternative site. Found BTF. Very nice. Thank you! -- Submitted By: (bissenmir) on June 17, 2009, 5:22 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I don't know if I should laugh or cry because of this. The ARCHIVES?! That's pathetic. Luckily we are adding the old content to BTF. -- Submitted By: (kitchenbreak) on June 12, 2009, 5:23 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
The funny thing is that Metallica hasn't had a song worth stealing in years and years. In fact, you couldnt pay me to listen to the "Faux Metal" that "Alternica" puts out under the guise of "Metal" these last two decades (since 1988). Is Lars Ulrich's jail for downloading music only one tenth the BS than "the site that shall not be named" being raped by TV Guide? That's an interesting premise for a debate. One item of note, isnt it amazing how there isnt one mainstream press item talking about the Rape of "The site that shall not be named"? Looks like the corporate media whores are all having hushspuppies, slaw and 3 pieces of deep fried fish while not criticizing their peer's horrible destruction of a webclassic. But what else is new in the media these days? -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on June 10, 2009, 7:55 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
As far as I'm concerned, the selling of the site to TV Guide is ten times worse than Lars Ulrich openly calling for anybody downloading music to be sued/jailed at the beginning of the decade. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on June 10, 2009, 1:02 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
TV Guide ruins their own magazine, ruins "the site which shall not be named", and now, they block the archives...I am officially boycotting them. So what that I don't buy their products, anyways. I can still do all I can to avoid visiting any sites hosted by TV Guide. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on June 9, 2009, 12:20 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I had noticed that wayback.com wasa getting more difficult to use, thankfully thanks to our wonderful users volunteers, more of the great content from the site that shall not be named is geting added here every day. Want to stick it to TV Guide, email the site to volunteer to add a reason from the "Scottish" site today, and in turn stick the Bone to the Man!! Damn you for stopping the archive site!!! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on June 9, 2009, 3:38 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
