Websites - JumptheShark.com

A defining moment when you know that your favorite television program has reached its peak. That instant that you know from now on...it's all downhill. Some call it the climax. We call it "Jumping the Shark." From that moment on, the program will simply never be the same. he term "jump the shark" was coined by site founder Jon Hein's college roommate of 4 years, Sean J. Connolly, in Ann Arbor, Michigan back in 1985. This web site, book, film, and all other material surrounding shark jumping, are hereby dedicated to "the Colonel." The aforementioned expression refers to the telltale sign of the demise of Happy Days, our favorite example, when Fonzie actually "jumped the shark." The rest is history. Jumping the shark applies not only to TV, but also music, film, even everyday life. We invite you to comment when any show jumped the shark.

I hate the new TV Guide JTS site. I can't even find anything now! -- Submitted By: (MorbidDuck) on June 20, 2010, 7:52 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Yes, when it moved to TV Guide without a doubt. JumptheShark was one of the most fun sites to visit just to past time when you were bored since there was always a certainty of updates each day. Now, yes. It sucks. -- Submitted By: (johnnydough) on May 4, 2010, 9:11 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Wow, I forgot about that book! Thanks for reminding me! I've always wanted that book (circa 2003, nevertheless) but around the time of the redesign I had forgotten about it! Hopefully there will be a "Bone the Fish" book that talks about how the Scottish Site was destroyed, how the fans boycotted the Scottish Rag and Scottish Sellout, and how BTF came into being! The new book could also include the best of the best comments, too! Now, did I miss something else? Oh yeah, Jon Hein stinks. Good day! -- Submitted By: (SVN) on March 11, 2010, 2:41 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
After the Scottish Sellout's repeated dodging of JTS-related questions and total disrespect of JTS fans, my copy of the "JTS" book is going into the "Sell to Used Bookstore" pile. Hein no longer deserves any of my shelf space. Hmmph! -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on March 9, 2010, 12:43 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Well, at least we now have closure on what the Scottish sellout thinks of his old site being raped. And the decidedly low amount of respect for his fans. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on March 8, 2010, 10:02 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I have no problem with Howard bringing it up whenever, it isnt an import detail to the show. Jon Hein was the one that just brushed it under the rug, and brushed it off as opposed to saying "Yeah it really sucked". That's why Jon Hein has Boned the Fish permanently. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on March 8, 2010, 6:19 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I would cut Howard some slack for waiting so long to ask Hein that. His life does not revolve around every little thing that might be important or interesting to one of us. Jon Hein however, dodging that question like that like a champion boxer... I might get that he really has nothing much to say about it, but to say it like that... I really don't know what to say. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on March 8, 2010, 5:08 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
FYI- Howard Stern asked Jon Hein about the current state of JTS this week, and he meekly said they changed it, and wouldnt say that it went downhill, he quickly evaded, and said it wasnt his ediotrial control anymore and that it got folded into TV guide, when Howard asked about why they would just change the site, he again brushed it off.... here is the transcription from Mark's Friggin Howard Stern website... Jon Hein- you keep on boning the fish buddy!....................TRANSCRIPT....... Jon Hein came in with his Wrap Up Show preview. Howard said Jon is also the host of The Bonus Show on Howard TV. He said he had some new stuff he wants to throw to the new show. Jon ran down his list of subjects for today's Wrap Up Show. Howard and Jon talked about Mr. Skin wanting to get 20 million for his web site. Jon said that he could probably get 10 million no problem. That led to them talking to Jon about his web site JumpTheShark.com which was absorbed by TV Guide. Jon said that they've kind of lost their identity now because it brings you right into the TV Guide site. Howard said that TV Guide used to be a listing of the TV show listings and they were doing great for years. Then they died when the internet had everything available. Howard asked if he can go on Google and type in ''what's on TV tonight'' and get a list. Jon said that there are ton of sites that have that kind of information so it would probably work. Robin told Howard that he could use his TiVo. Howard said he hates using that guide. It's too hard for him to figure out to see what's on that night. Robin asked Jon if they ask him to do anything with his web site anymore. Jon said that they do once in a while and he's willing to do it but he really doesn't have much control over it now. Jon ran down the rest of the show preview and they ended up talking about the Roger Ebert stuff they were playing this morning. Howard said he had some more of the clips that Sal and Richard made up using a computer voice. " -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on March 7, 2010, 4:14 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Yes I have the account 'jumpedthesharkcommenttaker' and used it last year to get some comments but don't remember the account settings or the email I used for it. If someone emails me the email address of that account I will know the password. Thanks! -- Submitted By: (kitchenbreak) on February 7, 2010, 10:46 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Yeah! Could we start with the "Nickelodeon" page, please? (Please remember to score out some of the words on there; these messages were from the early days of the Scottish Site and no rules were made until the Scottish Rag [TV Guide] assumed control.) -- Submitted By: (SVN) on February 6, 2010, 2:53 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
My suggestions would be to start copying and pasting comments and reasons over to this site! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on February 6, 2010, 6:46 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

I know that it's been quite some time since this comment was made (by Chrissy on July 13, 2009), but my favorite comment on the old Scottish Site was on the "TRL: Total Request Live" page, somebody said, "MTV=Marketing Television!" And, I liked it when people called Nickelodeon "MTV Jr!" Yeah, this webstie will be missed. Shame on you, Scottish Sellout. :-( -- Submitted By: (SVN) on February 5, 2010, 8:43 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I have never visited that Cod-omized site again. I haven't been there in months, and I will never go there again. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on February 2, 2010, 2:14 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Wow I just stopped by the "SITE THAT SHALL NOT BE NAMED"- what a trainwreck, no new content in a month, and no user comments- the level of drivel and tabloid crap is even worse than it was 6 months ago. What a disgrace! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on February 2, 2010, 12:32 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I am more upset that TVGuide threw $10 million in the trash and would love to know who made that call. There must have been some great marketing meeting where somebody in an overpriced suit convinced them that all of the followers would still follow them to the new blog site after they got rid of all of that JTS content. If TVGuide was smart, they would have embraced JTS and its followers and made it better. Really, who reads TV guide anyway and who even knew they had a website? If they embraced JTS, they could have JTS plus a thriving gossip site. Now they have neither. Could they really be concerned that people criticizing their shows on this site is hurting their sales? Are there really people THAT STUPID at TVGuide? Apparently so. -- Submitted By: (DavidSilverlight) on January 4, 2010, 3:05 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I had not went to JTS for over a year, so I figured, just to pass some time, to check it out and look up some stuff. TV Guide, you bastards! -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on December 6, 2009, 9:01 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
When it stopped being a website similar to this one, and became some stupid celebrity blog. -- Submitted By: (Mr.Bill) on November 23, 2009, 6:46 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
The worst, most infuriating and frustrating thing about the TV Guide replacement is that in place of the wonderfully interactive JTS site, it wasn't possible to even send a message to those snobs who ran the site to ask where the old site went. It just seemed like complete cowardice, as if they knew they'd get a hostile reaction and didn't care one bit, and so closed the door on and dismissed anyone who wanted their say on the matter. It disgusts me to be honest. -- Submitted By: (Tanlee) on November 13, 2009, 5:54 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Why, Tv Guide, why?! I no longer love you; you lost the charm that you had back when Frank Costanza collected all your copies. Well, now you are dead to me! Banished! In an icy grave! Do ya hear that? Such blasphemy it is ruining one of my favorite sites! Some of the best times of my teenage years, swept away! And alas, I have nothing to remember them by, as it is near impossible to retrieve the old footage, filled with my sometimes snarky, sometimes saccharine musings. The tables shall turn on you, TvG, as your printed edition is slowly (but surely) fading away into the mists of time! Karma is a bad thing, my friend! -- Submitted By: (Puggy) on November 12, 2009, 10:25 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
