Websites - JumptheShark.com

A defining moment when you know that your favorite television program has reached its peak. That instant that you know from now on...it's all downhill. Some call it the climax. We call it "Jumping the Shark." From that moment on, the program will simply never be the same. he term "jump the shark" was coined by site founder Jon Hein's college roommate of 4 years, Sean J. Connolly, in Ann Arbor, Michigan back in 1985. This web site, book, film, and all other material surrounding shark jumping, are hereby dedicated to "the Colonel." The aforementioned expression refers to the telltale sign of the demise of Happy Days, our favorite example, when Fonzie actually "jumped the shark." The rest is history. Jumping the shark applies not only to TV, but also music, film, even everyday life. We invite you to comment when any show jumped the shark.

Now it appears they are frequently posting articles on that "page" which now is just listed as "Keyword- Jump the Shark" so if any article on their site uses that phrase, it goes there, the chummy churn continues there. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on March 4, 2014, 6:21 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
That is weird. Basically, they use the phrase as a "tag"/ "keyword" in a regular TV Guide article once a month. I wonder if it's some legal thing. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on February 14, 2014, 6:06 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Well Well- the Scottish Site hath returned, looks like the Bozos at TV Guide put an entire monthly post on that sad sack site since last September- they must have an intern. Laughably the first post is "Should the X Factor Die Already" how about "Should your website die already" Who are the braindead masses posting on there- they have alot of long winded passionate comments, and I dont see one questioning what a POS that site is now. Go post a comment and tell them to BONE a bit over here. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on February 14, 2014, 6:38 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 years, 4 months, 26 days since the last update. Nice Job TV Guide! -- Submitted By: (BrewMaster) on November 22, 2013, 6:46 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
As "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase would always say in his wrestling promos, "Everyone has a price!", so I don't fault Hein for selling, like I have said before. What I don't like is how everything had gone down with Jump The Shark after getting sold. That does stink to high heaven. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on November 30, 2012, 1:59 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
One more thing, selling JTS was such a cop out. It's like whoever came up with that idiotic idea, was a sensitive ass pansy who couldn't take criticism on TV shows being written and wanted to ruin it for everyone else. Things aren't always picture perfect. There are some shows that i still love but that i put my 2 cents in about because even though i love the show it doesn't mean that it's flawless and that i love every single thing about it. JTS was an outlet for ppl to be honest about when their favorite shows started to go downhill. Once again, i'm grateful for BTF for picking up where JTS left off and showing that lame TVguide site how this shit is really done. Bravo BTF. -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on November 30, 2012, 7:50 am - (4 votes) - Login to Vote
Before i knew that the original JTS site was gone, i was trying to find it one day because most of the comments there were hilarious. At first i was led to that shitty tv guide page and thought, what the hell?? Smh. I'm glad Bone The Fish was created, because it does have a similar feel to the JTS site, with other features as well. It's good to be able to comment on and read other's honest opinions on shows that we once were fans of. -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on November 30, 2012, 7:45 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Closing in on one year of no updates for the bloated fishy hulk formerly known as "Jump the Shark".... -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 23, 2012, 11:25 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
The bizarre thing is that they havent even put one update on in 8 months now. Just have an intern put something on it for goodness sakes. I'd love to talk to the soul-less automatons that run TVG to ask some of these questions: "You paid millions for a website, and shut it down" "Were you afraid they criticized Cousin Oliver too much?" BONED -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on February 3, 2012, 9:01 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I don't blame Jon Hein for selling the site if he got a large bit of cash (as is rumored) in return. What amazes me is TV Guide went through the trouble of buying it, then did absolutely nothing with it except gradually shutting it down. -- Submitted By: (John63btf) on February 3, 2012, 8:10 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Just want to say how much I hate TV guide and that douchebag that used to own the other site-they really know how to mess up a good thing-it was a great site and was like visiting an old familiar place-the new one just sucks-glad to see we are trying to bring it back here! -- Submitted By: (Arkady) on February 2, 2012, 3:08 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
So the Wayback Machine has boned, too. Sigh. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on January 26, 2012, 12:51 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
No, they've had it completely blocked via robots.txt for a while now. It's a shame, because occasionally I'll remember something funny I read on there and I can't go back and "rescue" those anecdotes anymore. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on January 17, 2012, 2:56 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Has anyone been able to access the Vintage Site via the Wayback Machine these last few months? It seems even THAT has been denied the fans. Oh, and if it turned out that TV GUIDE had a Mama Carlson MO re the site purchase, it wouldn't come as a total surprise to me! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on January 15, 2012, 1:22 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I don't visit because I don't want to give it any hits. Besides, it's like looking at roadkill; the only difference will be more tire marks than from last time. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on January 14, 2012, 1:09 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Thanks for the updates. I sometimes feel tempted to check up on JTS, but I don't want to give them any "hits". I want them to get no site traffic and I want the idiot that decided to wreck the site to get fired. Of course, the world being the way it is, that person is probably still gainfully employed at TV Guide and laughing it up with the guy who invented New Coke at some bar right now. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on January 11, 2012, 1:45 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Nice to know TV Guide can afford to pay millions to buy something and then intentionally ruin it. What a waste. On several levels. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on January 10, 2012, 9:18 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
@Chubby Rain: It seems like the current owners of the "Scottish Site" just don't care about the site that much. -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on January 10, 2012, 8:07 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Just stopped by to look at the bloated festering corpse of JTS on the TV guide website- and the "Scottish Site" seems to be dead in the water- last update was on June 27th of 2011. Really makes you wonder what the last person that even worked on that site did- were they asked to turn off the lights? And will the domain name even really be used much longer, and why did TVG even pay for it at this point. While they gutted the original concept for a new poor concept, they are not even doing that now- dont they have an intern that could post pictures of Jersey Shore Cast members or something? Boned to infinity. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on January 10, 2012, 10:42 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
i think this topic is as no-brainer for any former JTS fans like me -- TV Guide destroyed it. -- Submitted By: (ocfernan) on November 6, 2011, 7:13 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
