TV Shows - WIRE, The

The Wire is an American television drama series set in Baltimore, Maryland, where it was also produced. Created, produced, and primarily written by author and former police reporter David Simon, the series was broadcast by the premium cable network HBO in the United States. The Wire premiered on June 2, 2002 and ended on March 9, 2008, with 60 episodes airing over the course of its five seasons. Each season of The Wire focuses on a different facet of the city of Baltimore. They are, in order: the drug trade, the port, the city government & bureaucracy, the school system, and the print news media. The large cast consists mainly of character actors who are little known for their other roles. Simon has said that despite its presentation as a crime drama, the show is "really about the American city, and about how we live together. It's about how institutions have an effect on individuals, and how ... whether you're a cop, a longshoreman, a drug dealer, a politician, a judge [or] lawyer, you are ultimately compromised and must contend with whatever institution you've committed to

3 Never boned. While the final season was shaky, it was still MILES ahead of any other drama on TV. -- Submitted By: (Googalslosh) on April 4, 2011, 7:27 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
4 Just watched this entire series over the summer - hands down one of the best TV shows, ever. The writing and acting were so amazing. Every episode was like a movie. I enjoyed the fact they changed the investigations/focus by season and you never knew what was coming next. I never felt like it was predictable. And come on, Omar is easily one of the best characters ever made. Just great all around. I love when I catch the actors from the Wire on other series, they all deserve as much airtime as they can get. -- Submitted By: (elizacron) on August 9, 2010, 10:35 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
5 I have to admit that I was a tad bit disappointed when Mike and Dukie ended up stuck. Mike ended up being the next Omar, and Dukie ended up being the next Bubbles. I realize what they were trying to say: "Everybody doesn't live happily ever after." and "For every persons that dies or gets out of the streets, someone takes their place, but I couldn't help but feel disappointed. Speaking of Omar, WTF?! He gets shot at the whole series by everyone from police to drug-king pins, and survives a five-story fall only to get killed by a single gunshot wound by KENARD, of all people?! -- Submitted By: (SHABINDIGO) on December 14, 2009, 8:23 pm - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
6 I would cringe to see what whoever voted "Day 1" has on their TiVo. Simple Life? American Idol? Dancing with the "Stars"? Desperate Housewives? The Blue Collar Comedy Tour? -- Submitted By: (Dropmurphy) on May 20, 2009, 4:15 am - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
