TV Shows - Dallas

Dallas is an American prime time soap opera that revolves around the Ewings, a wealthy Texas family in the oil and cattle-ranching industries. Throughout the series, Larry Hagman stars as greedy, scheming oil baron J. R. Ewing. The show also starred Patrick Duffy as younger brother Bobby Ewing, veteran actress Barbara Bel Geddes as family matriarch Miss Ellie, and veteran actor Jim Davis in his last role as Ewing patriarch Jock Ewing before his death in 1981. The show debuted in April 1978 as a five-part miniseries on the CBS network, and then was subsequently broadcast for thirteen seasons from April 2, 1978 to May 3, 1991. Dallas was included in Time magazine's 2007 list of "100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME."[1] The show was also famous for its cliffhangers, including the "Who shot J.R.?" mystery, and the "Dream Season", in which everything that transpired during season eight was later revealed to have been all a dream. In 2010, TNT (sister company to Warner Bros. Television, current owners of the series) announced it would order a pilot for the continuation of the Dallas series.[2] The new series will primarily center around J.R. Ewing's son John Ross, and Bobby's adopted son Christopher.[3]

I'll be the first to say good bye to JR (Larry Hagman) -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on November 24, 2012, 1:38 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I haven't seen it in a while but aoording to lots of viewers, what's even worse is the Season after The "Dream" season where they have to undo everything from the previous one. This is where the trainwreck began. -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on February 8, 2012, 5:26 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I got bored with it in the middle of the #5 DVD release (1981-82); so much so that I'm giving all my "Dallas" sets to my nephew who lives in Iowa and is gladly taking them. Good riddance! -- Submitted By: () on January 9, 2012, 8:26 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I did but it was in the bargain section on Amazon.com. The rest of that season up until the showere scene wasn't so bad. They should've just let Bobby be dead and tell Patrick Duffy to go look for a job or something. Susan Howard commented that the return of Bobby was like driving a stake through the heart of Dallas. -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on October 9, 2011, 1:53 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
That "dream season" must've been a tough sell on DVD. I wonder how many people bought it? -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on October 9, 2011, 1:17 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Anybody ever wonder what might've happened if it hadn't been for the "Dream Season"? -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on October 9, 2011, 7:43 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
That would be another cliffhanger where you had to meet the Devil and we have to wait until the movie comes out to see if you are still alive or not. -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on September 7, 2011, 12:56 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Lrbloom just almost made me want to kill myself. Almost. If that's the way the new show will be for real then no horror movie ever made could match that level of scariness. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on September 6, 2011, 7:43 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I'm figuring it to be like the new "Hawaii FIve O". Imagine Bobby and JR with cell phones and ipods, and the Ewing kids of the next generation starting every sentence with "totally". Ewing Oil has a website, MySpace and Facebook links. The kids watch "Entourage" and listen to "Lady Gaga". We need a story line where JR plans to kidnap Ghadafi for all the oil overseas and then he buys out the CIA to keep it quiet. Book Him...er I mean don't you worry your purty little head about it darlin'. -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on September 7, 2011, 12:55 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
FF, don't even joke about that. Knowing how TV execs think, they might just do it for real! -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on August 30, 2011, 7:40 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
@ Dolfan- Hey maybe they'll put Betty White and Cloris Leachman on the cast. ;) -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on August 28, 2011, 10:02 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
DolFan, I have to agree with you! The 'JR gets his way yet again' theme got so tired that the vampire had long since died of boredom by the time the show finally coughed+sputtered its last so why not keep the stake where it is and leave it done instead of reviving it? -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on August 28, 2011, 6:04 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Meh. The old Dallas was trashy enough, this new one's going to be ten times worse, since society's trashiness as a whole is that much worse from the first show. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on August 27, 2011, 11:13 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
But it was advertised all through the spring of this year as if it woule be airing soon. For a long time nobody had a starting date and then they dropped the news that it would be next year. I'm sure it will be similar to the old show but actually I was hoping it wouldbe ready for the fall season this year. -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on August 27, 2011, 9:57 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
It could be good. TNT produces some high quality programs like The Closer and Southland, so it could follow in those footsteps. I also think bringing Patrick Duffy, Larry Hagman and Linda Gray back is a smart move in getting fans of the original series on board for the new one. From the previews, it looks like they do a good job bringing the story to modern times as well. I guess we'll see what the result is in 2012. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on August 27, 2011, 7:27 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
It turns out that after all the big deal made out of the new "Dallas" we still have to wait until next year. -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on July 15, 2011, 12:40 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I'm wondering if the new "Dallas" is going to be any good or not. They certainly are taking their time about getting it on the air and are being very secretive about it or is it all just a dream. -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on May 2, 2011, 1:19 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

Bobby in the shower was the all time JTS, BTF moment in tv history; amen. Even Susan Howard (Donna Culver) remarked that when they brought Bobby back is was like Dallas "driving a stake in it's own heart". Just when you got used to Bobby being dead and gone, Sue Ellen drying out, Mark Graison being Pam's new bf, they go and bring Bobby back. This strained the credibilty of the show to such an extent that it never recovered and the last several seasons about JR marrying a teenager and going to the mental hospital and such were just completely unwatchable. -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on January 25, 2011, 6:36 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Throughout the show's run, JR frequently drives Sue Ellen back to the bottle after periods of sobriety. This was actually something that Lind Gray complained to the producers about so that in season 9 on DVD Sue Ellen hit "Rock Bottom" and is sent to dry out as JR and the other Ewings as well as Dusty have had enough. Of course this was only a dream if you know what I mean. -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on January 3, 2011, 11:20 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
