1 The first Arrival movie (starring Charlie Sheen) underperformed at the box office but has since become a cult classic. It combines the best elements of the sci-fi, mystery, drama, and even conspiracy-theory movie genres. It also far predates Sheen's "winning" trip off the rails in 2011, so it shows Sheen at his acting best. For all those reasons, the first movie is well worth watching. The sequel, however, falls short of the original in every way possible: acting, writing, characterization ... you name it, the sequel blew it, with the exception of the special effects being at least decent considering it was direct-to-video (and thus budgeted accordingly). If I recall correctly, Arrival II didn't even handle the alien story consistently with the first movie, but I have no interest whatsoever in re-watching it to double-check the details. If the idea of sci-fi seasoned with a bit of mystery appeals to you, by all means you should check out the first movie. However, ALL parties are advised to take a VERY broad pass on the sequel, unless they've got some kind of morbid interest in bad movies. I'm not sure what genre(s) the second movie was aiming for, but whatever it was, it ended up as a healthy serving of fish. For the first movie, break out the popcorn; for the second, coleslaw and lemon juice. -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on May 8, 2013, 2:29 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
