TV Shows - Sha Na Na

The show NEVER jumped in my opinion. I'm a fan of 50s & 60s music. This was a group of 10 (9 in the last season) from Columbia University. The show was from 1976 -1980. There was Bowzer (the smarter than he looks leader) Johnny (the tenor that women fell head over heels for ) Lennie (the sax player that could lose a few & the guys never let him forget it! & the guys never let him forget it) Each character had his own charm . (On a personal note I met Bowzer .He's not with Sha Na Na anymore. He's SUCH a sweet guy!)

Sha Na Na Comments (You must Login to Comment)

1 Floating a guess: I was old enough to remember that period. You had the film American Graffiti and the show Happy Days was quite popular. A lot of 50s nostalgia happening at that time. -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on May 15, 2017, 9:13 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 I never could understand the reason they had a show. -- Submitted By: (Bussarddc) on May 8, 2017, 7:22 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
3 Now come on! Some of you MUST have heard of Sha Na Na! I saw some comments about the Flip Wilson Show & Sha Na Na somewhat got their show started on Flip's show . When the show started in 1976 ,they had Avery Schreiber as Herbie the cab driver bringing such guests as Ethel Merman , Chubby Checker and others. In the later seasons they had to resort to tricks like fake telethons Plus the guys (there were 10 of them ) would sing songs from the 50s & 60s. Each of the 10 greasers (as they were known) had a trait of their own . There was Bowzer (tall dressed all in black with a deep voice) Johnny ( the heart throb of the group ) Santini (always winking at girls ) Lennie (the teddy bear looking sax player) and others. Hopefully soon Sha Na Na will be out on DVD soon! (Ob a personal note I met Bowzer & he's a VERY sweet man! DON'T EVER let the tough guy attitude fool you! -- Submitted By: (Katzi428) on July 2, 2013, 10:46 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
