TV Shows - Are You Being Served? Again!/Grace & Favour

Are You Being Served? Again!, also known as Grace & Favour, is the first spinoff of the British comedy Are You Being Served?. It aired from 1992-1993 on BBC1 for two series. With Mr. Grace deceased, his will stipulates that the Grace Bros. employees' pension funds are invested in different things. For the cast, this pension was invested in a manor house by the name of Millstone Manor. They cannot sell the manor, but can use it in any way they please. The staff decides to run it as an inn and live off the proceeds.

1 The ONLY reason I spent any time looking at this show was to see Fleur Bennett. She was irresistibly cute in a girl next door sort of way. Plus, I am a total sucker for chicks with British accents of any type so needless to say I really watched the scenes she was in. Otherwise, this rehashing of Are You Being Served was a total dud at best. -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on October 12, 2015, 5:07 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 So many parallels with Pinky, Elmyra, and the Brain. 1) The cast moves to a different place. PE&tB moved from the laboratory to Elmyra's home; AYBSA moved from the ladies' and gentlemen's clothing departments of Grace Brothers to a farm. 2) The plot changes. In Pinky and the Brain, Brain plotted world domination, and the spinoff changed to surviving suburbia with Elmyra. In AYBS?, the staff would get involved with crazy plots such as plans to stir up sales or fight unjust rules, and it changed to surviving the countryside. 3) The jokes and catch phrases from the first series were either altered or gone. No longer could anyone ask, "Are you free?", no longer could Mr. Humphries answer the phone saying "Menswear" in a deep voice, no longer could Mrs. Slocombe tell a customer "Oh, that does suit madame!" even if it clearly did not. In conclusion, this show was inferior to its predecessor. I watched a few episodes...no, make that "sat through them". It was a chore, and I failed to laugh once. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on October 6, 2011, 9:38 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
