Music Groups - David Bowie

Born David Robert Jones, 8 January 1947) is an English rock musician and singer who has also worked as an actor, record producer and arranger. A major figure for five decades in the world of popular music, Bowie is widely regarded as an innovator, particularly for his work in the 1970s, and is known for his distinctive voice and the intellectual depth of his work. Although he released an album (David Bowie) and several singles earlier, Bowie first caught the eye and ear of the public in July 1969, when the song "Space Oddity" reached the top five of the UK Singles Chart. After a three-year period of experimentation he re-emerged in 1972 during the glam rock era with the flamboyant, androgynous alter ego Ziggy Stardust, spearheaded by the hit single "Starman" and the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Bowie's impact at that time, as described by biographer David Buckley, "challenged the core belief of the rock music of its day" and "created perhaps the biggest cult in popular culture."[2] The relatively short-lived Ziggy persona proved merely one facet of a career marked by continual reinvention, musical innovation and striking visual presentation

1 I think there is a point where he did bone, but he recovered around the mid 90's in his alternative phase. The success of Let's Dance led to some half-baked "commercial" records which were tolerable at best - even today David Bowie himself regrets sticking to that sort of sound for so long. However, I really liked his alternative 90's phase with Outside and Earthling, and all albums after were actually really good (jury's still out on The Next Day, however). There's definitely a point where he just burnt out completely, but there's no doubt that he recovered along the line. -- Submitted By: (MrMallard) on July 3, 2013, 3:59 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 Definitely "Jazzin' for Blue Jean". Lame "feature video" for a lame song that ripped off the concept of "Michael Jackson's Thriller" video. Really awful and pointless stuff, and that song was definitely the worst of his hit singles that seems to have only charted because it was still somewhat fresh off the success of "Let's Dance". -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on July 23, 2012, 10:31 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
