TV Shows - Headbangers Ball

Headbangers Ball is a television program consisting of heavy metal music videos airing on MTV2. The show began on MTV on Saturday, April 18, 1987, playing heavy metal and hard rock music videos late at night, from both well-known and more obscure artists. The show offered (and became famous because of) a stark contrast to Top 40 music videos shown during the day. However, with the mainstream rise of alternative rock & rap music in the '90s, the relevance of Headbangers Ball came into question, and the show was ultimately canceled in 1995. Over 8 years later, as new genres of heavy metal were gaining a commercial foothold and fan interest became unavoidable, the program was reintroduced on MTV2. It has remained in varying degrees on the network. Many of the videos that aired on the first incarnation of the series would find a home on the similarly themed Metal Mania on sister channel VH1 Classic

1 When Jamey Jasta left, MTV2 seemed to care less and less about the show, and the timeslot suffered as a result. Don't get me wrong, Jamey Jasta is a very busy man and couldn't have done the show forever, but they could have at least tried to find a suitable replacement. -- Submitted By: (TheTruth) on March 7, 2011, 4:24 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 Show died after the Ricki Rachtman Era- the place for daily metal news, and the center of all metal music now is channel 27 on Sirius Radio, all metal, all the time. Just heard the new Iron Maiden yessterday, as well as a Ronnie James Dio interview. If you have never listened to their shows like "Blood Roots of Metal" "Devil's Dozen" and "Jose's Hard Files"- as a metal fan, you dont know what you are missing. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on June 24, 2010, 3:25 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
3 Headbangers Ball has always been a great source to watch heavy metal music videos for whatever generation was watching. But since Jamey Jasta left, MTV2 has decimated Headbangers Ball by shortening it from 3 hours to 1 hour and moving it later and later into the night. Now it's on at Tuesday at like, 1 in the morning, and that's inexcusable. I know MTV hates anything that associates themselves with "music", but can't they let us metalheads have our metal at a decent hour on a decent day? Now when I want to catch metal, I watch VH1 Classic. At least THEY still care about good music. -- Submitted By: (robfrules) on June 23, 2010, 9:18 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
