Random Topics - Cracked (magazine)

Cracked was a humor magazine which debuted in 1958. It was intended to be a knock-off of Mad, and blatantly copied them, from layout to subject matter. As Mad had Alfred E. Neuman as its mascot, Craked had Sylvester P. Smythe as its mascot. The magazine's frequency was reduced in the 1990's and became erratic in the 2000's. The last magazine was printed in February 2007, and as of 2009, Cracked exists solely as a web site.

Both Mad and Cracked magazines were great, in my opinion. Never boned. -- Submitted By: (tvwatcher7) on March 20, 2016, 10:08 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
It used 1950s-70s pioneering female broadcaster Nancy Dickerson to create a regular interview character that practically outlasted her-NANNY DICKERING! One of my favorites about the magazine. -- Submitted By: (PokeyJHorse) on March 10, 2016, 12:54 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I read some funny stuff in "Cracked", like their "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" spoof and "The Billy Pluckett Story". Also loved their send-up of a "The Dukes of Hazard / Chips" cross-over. Never boned for me. "Shut ups" were cool, as was "The Cracked Lens". -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on August 10, 2012, 11:02 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
It was a great inoffensive magazine back in the 70s and 80s. But by the time the 90s rolled along, its focus was on gross out humour. -- Submitted By: (JayD) on February 15, 2012, 5:35 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
I knew from day one this was just a MAD ripoff. I didn't really get into it, but me and my friends just went for the original magazine instead. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on December 30, 2010, 9:14 am - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
Cracked...indeed it's a poor man's MAD. The spoofs and whatever else Cracked puts forth pale in comparison to what MAD cranks out. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on December 29, 2010, 10:13 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Even as a kid I could tell it was a lame Mad rip off! I thought I was the only one! Ironically, it's much better as a website. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on December 29, 2010, 12:48 am - (-2 votes) - Login to Vote
Never cared much for the magazine, although I do find some of the articles on the site amusing. -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on December 28, 2010, 9:35 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Cracked had it's moments, but those were few and far between. Bottom line- it was 'a Poor Man's' MAD Magazine all the way around. -- Submitted By: (Friedrich_Feuerstein) on December 28, 2010, 4:41 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Horrible MAD knockoff. My mom got me the magazine one day as a stocking stuffer for a christmas. After reading though part of the magazine, I could easily tell you where the magazine was going. Straight into the trash can. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on December 28, 2010, 4:48 am - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
