Music Groups - Amy Winehouse

Amy Jade Winehouse (born 14 September 1983) is an English singer and songwriter, known for her eclectic mix of various musical genres including R&B, soul, jazz, rock & roll, and ska. Winehouse is best known for her soulful, powerful contralto vocals. Winehouse's 2003 debut album Frank was commercially and critically successful in her native Britain. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Her 2006 follow-up album Back to Black led to six Grammy Award nominations and five wins, tying the record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night, and made Winehouse the first British singer to win five Grammys, including three of the "Big Four": Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year. On 14 February 2007, she won a BRIT Award for Best British Female Artist; she had also been nominated for Best British Album. She has won the Ivor Novello Award three times, one in 2004 for Best Contemporary Song (musically and lyrically) for "Stronger Than Me", one in 2007 for Best Contemporary Song for "Rehab", and one in 2008 for Best Song Musically and Lyrically for "Love Is a Losing Game", among other prestigious distinctions. The album was the third biggest seller of the 2000s in the United Kingdom.

The hell I do it without complaining. I live in New York state. In fact, for what I pay in taxes, they shouldn't give a flip what I do behind my own closed door. They're getting their share. Of course, if some had their way, I'd be unemployable. Then the government would get nothing and I'd have my hand out getting welfare, being a real sponge off society simply because my job didn't agree with an after hours choice I made. Would that be better? -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on July 23, 2012, 11:00 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
BTW ParkerTillman, the government forces people to pay taxes, which is far worse than not making drugs legal, but I'll bet you do that every year without complaining, right? -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on July 20, 2012, 5:44 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I'm with Robert. It's all fun and games until somebody dies or goes bankrupt or becomes a vegetable. And you never know who that'll be. Besides, people in America already do their jobs badly enough without drugs becoming legal. That's all I need is to be flying in a plane with a pot smoking pilot or having my car fixed by a toking mechanic. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on July 20, 2012, 5:40 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Robert, I don't see why I should be forced by my government to do without enjoying a "J" once in a while just because people like Amy Winehouse are stupid. It's one reason I vote that she sucked from the start. If there's one thing I can't stand it's people who can't control themselves causing regulations to be imposed on those of us who survived because we can......and yeah, I can predict many will give me the "you say that now" speech. Whatever......30 years and counting. Let me know when it's gonna happen. -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on July 19, 2012, 3:40 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Amen to that, lbloom. I can't say I was a fan of her music but she did have a great deal of raw talent that she could have taken to uncharted heights had she kept herself in the self-destructive mode. In any case, I hope her death has gotten at least one person in a similiar state to seriously overhaul their priorities so they can deal via positive, non-destructive means with whatever demons may be haunting them! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on July 25, 2011, 12:19 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I say let her rest in peace. She suffered enough. May God have mercy on her soul. -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on July 24, 2011, 11:45 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I'm shocked but not surprised of her death. Hopefully she'll be remembered for her music rather than her drug addictions. I'm sure that a post humous album full of unreleased tracks will be issued very soon. -- Submitted By: (JayD) on July 24, 2011, 6:58 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
When we heard she died at the young age of 27, everyone in my family suspected drugs. Turns out, we were right. This is why drugs are illegal. People aren't anti-drug because they're backwards-thinking prudes, they're anti-drug because (drumroll, please) drugs KILL! -- Submitted By: (Robert) on July 24, 2011, 3:21 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Can't feel bad for her, considering the way she boozed and drugged it up. It's sad though that you have these good talents just waste away like Winehouse did, or get wasted on people like Winehouse. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on July 24, 2011, 1:18 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
Neither can I Travoltron, neither can I. All her death really proves is that some people, through the luck of genetics (Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears), are built to last and some aren't. Seriously, how many celebs lead the exact same lifestyle? And somehow, hardly any of them actually die from it (at least lately), yet Winehouse was one of the rare ones who did. And now I'm wondering why that's true, since back in the day celebs who engaged in that sort of excess did die fairly regularly. Just what makes today's celebs in general so much tougher? -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on July 23, 2011, 11:59 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
I can't feel any sympathy for someone that has everything and then squanders it like she did. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on July 23, 2011, 9:51 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
This one-hit wonderchild has lost the battle to drugs. I knew she was going to lose that battle a long time ago and was just waiting for the official announcement. What a terrible song now to be recognized by. "They tried to make me go to rehab, but I said, no, no, no" Maybe you should have said yes, yes, yes Amy Winehouse. Addictions and abuse are not a laughing or glamorous matter, no matter how much Hollywood tries to sell it. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on July 23, 2011, 7:36 pm - (5 votes) - Login to Vote

Her big talent is doing lots of drugs and yet getting away with it, apparently. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on November 29, 2010, 6:20 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
The only thing I know about Amy Winehouse is she does drugs and a lot of it. Talent? What talent? -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on November 29, 2010, 2:45 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
SAME HERE LRBLOOM!!! So far I'm really buying what you're selling. Yet another so-called singer or actress who people insist has talent but is known for everything EXCEPT it. Can't all these people just be rounded up and sent to an island somewhere? -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on November 28, 2010, 11:40 pm - (4 votes) - Login to Vote
This is a virtually unknown singer whose main claim to fame seems to be the number of drug related arrests that must rival Lindsay Lohan by now. Never heard of her before she started having drug problems. -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on November 28, 2010, 6:47 am - (4 votes) - Login to Vote
