Music Groups - Toto (band)

Toto was a multi Grammy Award winning American rock band founded in 1977 by some of the most popular and experienced session musicians of the era. The band enjoyed great commercial success in the 1980s, beginning with the band's self titled debut, released during 1978. Continuing with 1982's critically acclaimed and commercially successful Toto IV, Toto became one of the best selling music groups of their era. They are known for such hit singles as "Hold the Line", "Rosanna", "Africa", and "Stranger in Town". Although their popularity in the United States diminished in the 1990s and 2000s, they continued to tour and sell out theaters and arenas internationally.

Toto (band) Comments (You must Login to Comment)

1 I think this band boned potentially three times: 1. When bass player David Hungate left. Many times you don't think the bass player makes much of a difference, but Hungate was a pro bass player. He left after Toto IV and the band never truly fully recovered. 2. The addition of Jean-Michael Byron. This was like putting oil in water. Bobby Kimball wasn't exactly a world renowned vocalist, but he fit Toto. Jean-MIchael Byron didn't. He was too flamboyant and eccentric for this band. Not surprisingly, he was gone after one album, a tour and a few music videos. 3. The death of Jeff Porcaro. One of the best drummers in the 70s and 80s, he was the soul of this band. When he died, the soul never really returned. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on February 1, 2011, 9:21 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
2 Helluva 80s band. Had some very strong hits in Rosanna, Africa, Hold the line and others. They just couldn't bring that soft stuff into the next millennium, so they boned right there. their good stuff is very good, and their bad stuff is very bad. -- Submitted By: (fletch000) on February 8, 2010, 11:34 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
