1 This was one of the best shows ever on TV, ever! It was technically a sit-com but did not use a laugh track, which was very cutting edge for the day. The humor was always good natured and never mean-spirited. Several episodes were very serious and dealt with suicide in the black community, poverty, drug, alcohol, and drug addiction, and all forms of racial prejudice. Even the serious episodes made you laugh at times because of the great writing and the humanity of the characters. I have read for years that copyright issues with the show's music have kept it from being released on DVD or on Netflix or HULU, thtat's a real shame. -- Submitted By: (jmac9909) on April 4, 2013, 9:44 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
2 I seemed to be one of the few folks who found this show about a group of quirky restaraunteurs and their customers in pre-Katrina New Orleans. I think it captured many of the charming nuances of the city well (without dwelling on the serious issues)- and I liked the idea of there being a 'Waitress Emeritus' an elderly semi-retired server who was would hang out at the restaurant ready to serve her favorite longtime customers. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on April 15, 2010, 12:11 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
