Music Groups - Supremes, The

The Supremes, an American female singing group, were the premier act of Motown Records during the 1960s. Originally founded as The Primettes in Detroit, Michigan, in 1959, The Supremes' repertoire included doo wop, pop, soul, Broadway show tunes, psychedelic soul, and disco. They were the most commercially successful of Motown's acts and are, to date, America's most successful vocal group[1] with 12 number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100.[2] Most of these hits were written and produced by Motown's main songwriting and production team, Holland Dozier Holland. At their peak in the mid 1960s, The Supremes rivaled The Beatles in worldwide popularity,[2] and their success made it possible for future African American R&B and soul musicians to find mainstream success.

Supremes, The Comments (You must Login to Comment)

1 She had her demons and may not have been easy to work with, but I don't think they did right by Flo Ballard- or her kids! And if one hears one of her post-Supremes songs, one may be surprised at how similiar she sounded to Roberta Flack- of all people! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on February 13, 2010, 2:15 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
2 I don't think that they ever recovered from the loss of their charismatic lead singer Diana Ross, though they did manage a couple of minor hits afterwards. I think Diana boned this fish and ate the meat. -- Submitted By: (fletch000) on February 11, 2010, 8:56 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
