Jp, Quick answer. Not sure for while Holly's output and range were quite impressive for the very short time of his career before his tragic death, through no fault of his own, he had not been able to establish himself as a leader of the 'rock and roll establishment'. Hard to say who would have been 'the King' if Elvis hadn't existed. Maybe Chubby Checker, perhaps. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on October 25, 2011, 10:54 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Quick question for anyone willing to answer. If Elvis had never happened, would Holly be "The King"? -- Submitted By: (Jp) on October 24, 2011, 5:10 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
One of the godfathers of rock and roll, along with Chuck Berry, Bill Holiday, Little Richard, Ray Charles, and Richie Valens. He died way too young, but his impact will be forever felt. Never boned. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on August 17, 2011, 3:27 pm - (4 votes) - Login to Vote
Amen to that, JayD! Though, sometimes I have to admit I wonder if he'd lived longer whether he'd have shared Ray Orbison's fate of having a few decades of obscurity yet FINALLY being rediscovered and given his just due right before he died. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on August 16, 2011, 2:43 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Simply put, no Buddy Holly, no Beatles. -- Submitted By: (JayD) on August 15, 2011, 11:30 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
I was thinking that Paul McCartney's tribute to Buddy Holly as he amongst other were appalled at the inaccuarcies in the Hollywood version. "The Real Buddy Holly" hosted by Sir Paul was much more historically accurate account of Buddy's life, music and influence on contempoaries such as McCartney himself. The Beatles took their name as sort of tribute to Holly's group, The Crickets. Can't go wrong with Beatles and Crickets both -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on February 7, 2011, 8:09 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
Lrbloom, don't be silly. You can't expect Hollywood to make movies about past times and events historically accurate! What were you thinking? ;-) -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on February 6, 2011, 2:55 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I watched this movie but was unaware until now of the inaccuracies in the movie. It is somewhat enjoyable and Gary Busey's performance is enrgetic enough, but it would've been nice if they'd been just a tad bit more accurate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Buddy_Holly_Story#Inaccuracies -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on February 4, 2011, 11:37 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Buddy Holly had one of the greatest drummers in rock and roll history in J.I. Allison of the Crickets! -- Submitted By: (Stephanie) on November 23, 2010, 7:10 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Died way too young to bone. Awesome singer, still better than most artists nowadays. -- Submitted By: (johnnydough) on September 7, 2010, 5:47 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
