TV Shows - Pee-Wee's Playhouse

Pee-wee's Playhouse is a children's television program starring Paul Reubens as the child-like Pee-wee Herman. The show was developed from Reubens' popular stage show and the one-off TV special The Pee-wee Herman Show, produced for HBO, which was similar in style but featured much more "adult" humor.

I don't suppose any of y'all has seen Apocalypse Now, which "Larry" Fishburne appeared in long before his part on this show. -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on June 15, 2012, 2:47 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I think PeeWee is now aimed towards an adult audience. Some time back, I watched a performance for a live audience on (I think) HBO. Some skits and topics were NOT for kids. PeeWee sort of reminds me of Conker the squirrel: they started out for kids, then wound up aiming for a mature audience...in such a way that no adult in their right mind would let their kids watch/play. Of course, PeeWee is/was not as vulgar as Conker. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on November 15, 2011, 2:35 pm - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
Never liked the show and don't miss him. However; it's worth noting that Lawrence Fishbourne got his first national recurring role here. I guess Mr. Fishbourne's subsequent career could show that he became a star IN SPITE of this start. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on November 7, 2011, 7:58 am - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
Why does Paul Reubens keep making appearances as Pee Wee? Does anybody really miss this guy? -- Submitted By: () on November 6, 2011, 10:19 am - (-2 votes) - Login to Vote
(Reposted from the Wayback Machine, not mine) "I remember the one where Cowboy Curtis (Larry Fishburne) was talking to Miss Yvonne. She complained her pipes were "backed up". Curtis' reply was, "I know what you need fixed, Miss Yvonne... And I'VE got the TOOL to fix it." He then reaches down toward his crotch (winking at the camera) and pulls out a monkey wrench. Brilliant, brilliant stuff!" -- Submitted By: (SSM) on April 30, 2011, 6:54 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Pee-Wee's Playhouse was bizarre for one simple reason: it began as an adult parody of a kids' tv show from LA's famed The Groundlings troupe, where Paul Reubens came up with all of the twisted, bizarre and winking double entendre references for his "The Pee-Wee Herman Show" (available on DVD and very much worth watching). The reason CBS likely allowed Reubens to bring the bulk of that staged performance to the kids of the 1980s was that even though it was clearly a sendup of those types of programs, all of the stuff that a kids' show was about was in place! It just needed to be cleaned up, and it mostly was. Whatever Paul Reubens did in his personal life has no bearing on this series, which was and is still great! -- Submitted By: (TheDeanofNYC) on August 16, 2010, 10:46 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Pee Wee Herman boned when Paul Reubens took Pee Wee from a Night club act and made it a kids act. The night club act was better, for adults. and anybody who saw this night club act knows what I mean. -- Submitted By: (quimbyt) on October 8, 2009, 12:19 am - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
This show is highly overrated. It seems to bring out a lot of nostalgic memories, but I don't know why. Seeing reruns as an adult, first on Fox Family, and later on Cartoon Network, I found this show rather boring. Really, it was pretty uneventful in spite of all the wild characters included. Only the opening and closing credits were actually interesting. All things considered, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure was really the only truly entertaining product featuring this character. -- Submitted By: (LoyalPigeon) on May 10, 2009, 6:04 pm - (-1 votes) - Login to Vote
