Websites - BoneTheFish.com

Long story, short. TVGuide crushed a site that was near and dear to many viewers, and had us laughing daily. The powers that be at TV Guide decided: let's take a great community, a very interesting concept and a ton of valuable input and make it a redirect to a subdirectory of garbage that looks like a tabloid. That was the great demise of one of the greatest websites of all time, which unfortunately fell victim to its own namesake (which will not be named here, but we are sure you can figure it out)! We vowed to keep the spirit of "the site that shall never be named" alive in theme and spirit. That spirit was given a name in March of 2009- "Bone the Fish". This early time frame is when things can fall apart without the help of the fans - be it a movie series, tv show, celebrity or movie group. We value the opinions of our new fans and community, and we realize that people indeed want to vote on their favorite BTF moment. So take a minute, sign up for the new BTF revolution and comment and vote until your fingers are worn to the bone!

Yeah, what Robert said!!! :-) Actually, the Dawn Lyn hate made me uneasy the whole time but over the last 6-9 months it's died down to where anyone who joined during that time might not even be that aware of it. This site did have a few problems at first but IMO they've been worked out. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on March 6, 2011, 6:47 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
I didn't vote for Dawn Lyn, I voted for Fred Freiberger (The guy that ruined Star Trek, The Six Million Dollar Man, and Space: 1999). That being said, there WAS plenty of Dawn Lyn-bashing on JTS and people did tend to believe she ruined My Three Sons. The Ted McGinley meme has really run its course; the man's long tenure on Married With Children proves he's not a show-killer. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on March 5, 2011, 2:04 pm - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
Bone the Fish still is a shrine to things which were good but turned bad. Most of us don't hate for the sake of hating. We praise shows which are still good and slam those which were either bad from the start, or started good then ended up boning. We call out writers who've gotten lazy in their work. Check out the Simpsons page, among others. Pinky and the Brain was great until they added Elmyra. Speaking of Dawn Lyn being patron saint, I feel there were lots of other people more worthy of that "honor". No, I'm not defending her, but there are worse people out there. Ted McGinley's sainthood was funny (since everyone knew his casting meant a show was on its way down). Dawn Lyn, however, is fairly obscure (I didn't even know she existed until BTF). And BTF is barely above a YouTube comment flame war? In our defense, what's said here is TAME compared to what people have said on JTS. Say the wrong thing there, and users would show no mercy to you for saying something they didn't agree with. Here, a vast majority of users are respectful of other people's opinions. And when it came to politics, people on JTS would take you down because you "stood up for the wrong party". Here, Democratic and Republican users (and those in between, like Independents) are treated as equals. However, debates do pop up when two people don't agree on something. At least it's never turned cutthroat. Last but not least, I think BTF is better than JTS ever was. But that's just me. Look past the Dawn Lyn stuff, and you'll see BTF is actually fun. Enjoy the site! -- Submitted By: (Robert) on March 5, 2011, 10:41 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
This site is supposed to be a shrine to things which WERE good but TURNED bad. It was a way to call out creative people who get lazy and should be doing better work. Dawn Lyn was never something that a show's producer said "ok, I've got an idea, we need something fresh, let's bring in Dawn Lyn." Dawn Lyn should be the Patron Saint of "People hating things that did nothing to warrant such violent attention." This site isn't supposed to be about hating anything you can just because you have a lot of hate. Where the previous site tried to find insightful and funny ways to criticize sloppy work, this site is barely above a YouTube comment flame war. Everybody attacking each other's politics, hating things just to hate them. The old site pointed out guys like Ted McGinley. This is a guy that's good looking, makes good money, and wasn't completely void of talent. Shows would run out of ideas and say "let's get McGinley in here, he might help out. He was a sign that a show had TURNED bad. And Dawn Lyn? When has she turned a show the wrong way? Never. More importantly, what's fun about mocking Dawn Lyn? She was a child actor who wasn't even particularly noteworthy at the time that played in a few shows that were never very good to begin with. She never ruined anything noteworthy, she was a sidenote to already bad shows. She was not the harbinger of creative doom that this site should have for its Patron Saint. To single her out is proof that BTF will never be as good as its predecessor until it changes its tone. -- Submitted By: (brett) on March 3, 2011, 11:26 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

Thanks DolFan. I think I know what the problem is then. At times the server is a bit overloaded, since that function calls another .php script and database ping our shared hosting environment probably isn't responding very well. We should probably put this site on a new host, when we get a little bigger we will upgrade it. -- Submitted By: (Hikariu) on February 14, 2011, 6:55 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

I use Firefox. Whenever I enter a thumbs up vote, all I see is a spinning circle "it's loading, trust us" graphic that just stays that way until finally I exit the page. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on February 11, 2011, 9:12 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I mainly use Firefox, and the thumbs system doesn't seem to work for me either. However, I just tried it on Internet Explorer, and it works on that browser (at least for me). -- Submitted By: (cartooner) on February 11, 2011, 9:02 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

One thing that does annoy me about this site has to do with the comments. The issue in question is the lack of ability to put your comments in paragraphs. It's annoying how I might make a long comment and use paragraphs only for it to appear it one large block of text when it appears on the site. otherwise though, it's great being able to comment, especially on more then just tv shows. -- Submitted By: (ExplodingConsole) on January 28, 2011, 2:14 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

I don't know about the thumbs up/thumbs down thing. Is there some consequence to getting thumbed-down? Because I'm thinking about writing a negative review of a certain show that seems to be beloved by 90's kids. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on January 24, 2011, 12:38 am - (6 votes) - Login to Vote
