TV Shows - Mole, The

Based on a format successful in a variety of overseas markets, "The Mole" put together a group of players trying to complete tasks in order to add money to a group pot. Aired for two regular seasons on ABC, followed by two celebrity editions. Returned for a final season after over four years off the air.

1 "The Mole," what a curiosity. This program has been through so much-- being almost canceled or canceled more than once, two "celebrity editions" and ratings that make it a miracle that it ever lasted more than one season, two at most. And yet, for my money, it was the best reality show that ever was. The very concept was a lot of fun-- a group of people playing together to earn money that only one would when at the end. But one of those people on the team was the mole, a double agent working for the producers to keep money out of the pot. The first two seasons will be remembered for Anderson Cooper, who went on to greater things at CNN, but as a reality host both did his job well and kept the program entertaining with his sharp wit. Then the celebrity seasons came along. These could have easily been a disaster, but they actually turned out to be quite fun as well. The first celebrity edition, "Hawaii" was given a big boost from the presence of Kathy Griffin, who was a hoot to watch playing the game and regularly offered comedic disses on her fellow celebrities. There was nobody quite that entertaining in the second celebrity season, "Yucatan," but the concept was as solid as ever, so it still made for enjoyable television. Finally, the show returned again in 2009 for what was apparently one last gasp. Unfortunately, this season failed to gain the attention needed for the series to continue, but it was nice to again see the show after it having been so long off the air. I'll enjoy my DVD sets (two are available) and remember well this example of what reality TV should be. -- Submitted By: (Agent0042) on December 23, 2009, 5:26 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
