TV Shows - Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.

The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. is a short-lived western television series with science fiction elements set in the 1890s, starring Bruce Campbell as Brisco County, Jr. It could be considered a thematic descendant of the 1960s show The Wild Wild West, since it combined elements of the science fiction and Western, and Steampunk genres. It was one of the few western shows aired in the 1990s. The show gained infamy as "the most violent show on television" by a TV watchdog group that viewed only one episode featuring a boxing match and every punch was deemed a "violent act". The series ran for 27 episodes from August 27, 1993 to May 20, 1994 on the FOX television network on Fridays at 8 p.m., otherwise known as the Friday night death slot.

1 Like so many pre-modern comedies, this series fell into the tap of having one character constantly "inventing" modern conveniences, usually as comic relieve, but sometimes for actual plot generation. The overall plot with the golden orbs was kinda nice, even thought the western/scifi vibe didn't really catch (maybe someone should have told Joss Wedon about this series). But the show really just fell apart when they brought in Gomez Adams as a recurring "whacky professor" character. -- Submitted By: (Tedward) on April 4, 2013, 5:52 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 Seems like I remember thinking that this show looked like it had a lot of potential but wouldn't gain a widespread audience because of it's offbeat nature. It unfortunately seems that I was right. -- Submitted By: (lrbloom) on January 29, 2011, 11:17 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
3 Best show of its time killed by a boxing episode that was "too violent." Really? That's it, piss-off TV! -- Submitted By: (dr_sarcastor) on November 17, 2010, 7:35 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

5 There is a reason it doesn't suck: BRUCE CAMPBELL. He's like the Chuck Norris of B-Movies! -- Submitted By: (itsdotcom) on February 22, 2010, 7:55 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
