Random Topics - Halloween (Holiday)

Halloween (also spelled Hallowe'en) is a holiday celebrated on October 31. It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints Day. It is largely a secular celebration, but some Christians and pagans have expressed strong feelings about its religious overtones. Irish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America during Ireland's Great Famine of 1846.

1 What about the fact that we can't agree on all Halloween candies...? Or, too few seem to like certain candies given...Tootsie Rolls, Necco Wafers (with all due respect, to give them their due, sometimes I'll eat those and they were started back in 1847, and their flavores were interesting but that chalkiness..talk about seeming theire age), Dots, candy corn(??)), cnady Circus Peanuts (WHAT?????????), wax lips, soda bottles, Twizzlers, etc. Maybe Halloween Candies for a seperate entry.:) -- Submitted By: (PokeyJHorse) on November 23, 2014, 9:11 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

3 It's typically cold, miserable, and occasionally snowy on October 31st, but dangit, we wanted candy! Besides, regarding the whole razor blade thing, this is why parents should check all the candy before the kids eat it. -- Submitted By: (ElBlocko) on May 5, 2010, 8:29 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
4 Halloween was such a great holiday. As others have said, it was nice to get to tour the neighborhood and get to know your neighbors. I'm sure most of you who trick or treated remembered which neighbors gave out what. Sure, there is a risk of doing it, but if parents are there with their kids than what difference should it make? Going to malls takes all the fun out of Halloween. And no, you do not outgrow the holiday itself, just trick or treating. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on April 2, 2010, 12:55 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
5 Halloween was one of my favorite holidays, and it still is, at least in the spirit it once possessed. Now, there's supposedly a razorblade in every apple and poison in every piece of candy. Of course, these are all stories made up by the mass media to scare people out of going trick-or-treating door to door, and instead crowd into malls, where they can "trick-or-treat" and feed their need for consumerism at the same time. But I don't care, I'll still go door to door no matter what the TV tries to tell me is supposedly lurking on the other side of every door. -- Submitted By: (asmariamoon) on January 26, 2010, 11:31 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
6 Halloween was a community event a chance to get out ant for the children and parents to walk and get to know the community. Halloween boned with over hyped stories of poison at every house and pedophiles on every corner unnecessarily spooking the parents. In addition, malls got into the act. Now parents take their children to the malls and sucked the life out of the streets on Halloween. -- Submitted By: (scatcatpdx) on October 27, 2009, 8:37 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

8 I think when schools had to start banning having a halloween celebration at the schools- no costumes, candy or fun etc. it was just another example of how politally correct engineering killed something that was generally just fun for kids. So perhaps Schools have boned the fish in this case, but Halloween was just a victim of it! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on October 2, 2009, 6:14 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
