Websites - That Guy with the Glasses

That Guy with the Glasses is a website that showcases original entertainment for an audience including video game enthusiasts and movie buffs. It primarily stars Chicago native Douglas Walker aka "That Guy with the Glasses." The founder and administrator of the site is Michael Michaud, in addition to being the CEO of the parent company Channel Awesome. The site was launched in April 2008 after the original videos were removed from YouTube following complaints of copyright infringement. That Guy with the Glasses has been a success, with 800,000 unique visitors, generating revenue of over $10,000, per month. As a result of this, several sister sites are planned, beginning with Bar Fiesta and Blistered Thumbs. The website is home to several episodic series, starring Douglas Walker and others. The main Douglas Walker series are 5 Second Movies (hyper-edited feature films), The Nostalgia Critic (reviews of 1980-90s films and television), Ask That Guy with the Glasses (comedy question and answer show) and Bum Reviews with Chester A. Bum (reviews of current feature films). Other videos and written articles are hosted on the site, including some minor series and sketches starring Walker.

Rest in peace Justin "JewWario" Carmical. You were a nice, funny guy. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on January 28, 2014, 7:41 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
So yeah, Nostalgia Critic didn't stay dead for long. Doug was a fool for tossing away his meal ticket like that, but at least he was wise enough to see the error of his ways before it was too late. Demo Reel will go down in the Book of Bad Ideas along with New Coke and Jar Jar Binks. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on April 4, 2013, 12:03 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I know it's too early to judge Doug's new show "Demo Reel", given that there have only been two episodes. But I just don't get it. A wafer-thin premise about some guys that remake current movies (for some reason) that ends up coming off like a live-action "How It Should Have Ended" with a little bit of The Office mixed in. One drawback I'm encountering is that you have to have seen the movie they're parodying to get the jokes. With Nostalgia Critic, that was not the case. All Nostalgia Critic was at its core was a guy making fun of lousy movies, yet that simpler concept was much more accessible. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on November 28, 2012, 11:02 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Wow, Nostalgia Critic has been killed off so that Doug can move on to other projects. Risky move. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on September 14, 2012, 10:51 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Ugh. The recent firing of Spoony due to a stupid Twitter war was quite an ugly incident and makes me think a lot less of all involved. I wonder if these people's egos will be the undoing of the website instead of the MPAA? -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on June 24, 2012, 4:35 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I still watch Nostalgia Critic and also Cinema Snob. Also Linkara, although sometimes his "storylines" kind of bore me-- I just want to watch bad comics getting made fun of, not zero-budget Scifi. Some of the others do some decent stuff too. I can help but wonder if these internet shows are the beginning of a new industry, or just a passing fad that will be killed off by the MPAA's bribing of the US Senate. -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on December 27, 2011, 1:49 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I check out the occasional endeavor by Nostalgia Critic, but otherwise, I don't bother. I'll have to watch the reviews one by one and formulate my own opinion - see if he truly boned, is barely hanging on, or whatever. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on December 12, 2010, 6:06 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Nostalgia Critic used to be one of my favourite video reviewers. But in retrospect I think his last really good review was Superman 4: The Quest for Peace (mainly because he had an interesting competitive rapport with Linkara). His Star Wars Holiday Special review seemed to catch him at a downer where he just didn't have the passionate enthusiasm that makes his reviews inventive and satisfying. Then this January he did the Arnold marathon, and he picked some of the least inspiring films to review, and would even give up halfway through Junior to do a music video rather than review the film. It was like he was just running out the clock now and didn't actually have anything to say. There was the odd pick up, like his review on Conan or Battlefield Earth but finally he reviewed Drop Dead Fred and didn't even seem to 'get' the film, seemed to pad the review out with ridiculous assertions that seemed to almost deliberately be missing the point, and ended up doing a review that was dumber and shallower than the film he was slating, and I just knew he had lost it. It was quite simply his worst review ever. Gone was the sense of heart and passion, of this being a therapeutic exercise for him, the sense of genuinely sharing the viewing experience. Instead he just felt like a superficial trademark version of himself, corporate, routine and depressingly conservative. It's a shame but he used to be so good. -- Submitted By: (Tanlee) on May 8, 2010, 7:44 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
