Websites - Garfield Minus Garfield

Garfield Minus Garfield is a web-based comic strip created by Dan Walsh, a 33 year old from Ireland, which received considerable attention during 2008. Each strip consists of a reprint of a past episode from the comic strip Garfield, from which the character of Garfield himself has been removed through photo manipulation. Though Walsh admits that he was not the first to come up with this idea, he was the first to "champion and popularize" it. The resulting strips thus consist mostly of Garfield's owner, Jon Arbuckle, interacting with himself, rather than with his pet cat. The strip's website characterizes this result as "a journey deep into the mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb". Garfield artist Jim Davis has commented on the webcomic, stating that he is an occasional reader and finds it "fascinating" and an "inspired thing to do".

1 The site is a one trick pony. The same joke gets stale fast. -- Submitted By: (scatcatpdx) on March 4, 2014, 12:55 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 I agree with comicguy on the food stealing scene-always loved that one-the Garfield minus Garfield is really good, not like Davis cares he makes hundreds of millions off Garfield a year, or so I heard! -- Submitted By: () on February 2, 2012, 4:28 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
3 Jim Davis is a good sport. I admire his humility. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on January 26, 2012, 12:54 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
4 I've said it in other places, and I'll say it here. This strip is a good reason to give Jim Davis a TON of respect. He could go on and whine and sic a bunch of lawyers on the person that came up with this idea, but instead has liked this. Always a fun read now and again. Never boned. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on January 16, 2012, 5:58 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

6 I never even heard of this site until I saw in the websites category. With Garfield out of the picture, Jon's gotten even funnier. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on May 10, 2010, 1:19 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
7 Before this site I never realized how potentially crazy Jon could be, he seems like a clinically depressed, schizophrenic, delusional, suicidal man who needs a lot of therapy, and to me it seems a lot funnier as a result the current Garfield comics for the most part seem rather boring in comparison, like for instance in some strips he declares it to be the best day he's ever had with a big smile on his face and in the next panel he sitting in his chair crying, in panels where he's talking to or yelling at Garfield are especially funny because there is now no one there. A few of my favorite strips are when originally Garfield and Odie keep stealing his food and he screams when his food keeps disappearing and the last panel is of him being dragged off in a straight jacket saying "Food gone!, food all gone!" but in this strip he apparently forgets that he's eating the food and he looks back and forth repeatedly and screaming and being taken to an insane asylum, another one is where he's bored at New Years he develops this crazy look and invites the whole neighborhood to do the bunny hop with him only in this version he yells at his imaginary friends to party with him while hopping alone and telling "everyone" to join him while people look on, and when he's mad at Garfield and Odie saying they don't understand him and don't appreciate him but in this strip he's yelling at nothing. -- Submitted By: (comic_guy87) on January 9, 2010, 11:18 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
8 I caught this by chance recently. Apparently, either the webmaster of G minus G isn't keeping very good records, or is running out of ideas, because these two strips are identical: http://garfieldminusgarfield.net/post/90322629 and http://garfieldminusgarfield.net/post/151589211 . -- Submitted By: (Strenikstund) on August 30, 2009, 4:27 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
