TV Shows - Transformers, The

The Transformers is an American animated television series depicting a war between giant robots who could transform into vehicles, animals, and other objects. Written and recorded in America, the series was animated in Japan and South Korea. The entire series was based upon the line of transforming toys originally created by Japanese toy manufacturer Takara, which were developed into the Transformers line by American company Hasbro. The cartoon debuted in the United States in 1984 from Toei Animation.

Transformers, The Comments (You must Login to Comment)

1 For me a combination of the Death of Optimus Prime and season 3. They kill off probably the most popular Autobot along with a bunch of others in the first half of the movie all in the name of introducing new characters and selling new toys (most of which were not as cool as the originals). I hated that they killed Starscream off even though his actual death scene was kinda awesome. Season 3 they also turned Grimlock from a serious Dinobot into a jokey character (why did he spend the majority of time in Dinosaur mode?). Hasbro saw that having Rodimus as a replacement was not working and decided to bring Optimus Prime back to life but the damage was probably done (I did enjoy that season 3 finale though). Then season 4 they came with that Headmasters idea which was pretty lame. Probably best that the series ended after that 4-parter. -- Submitted By: (HulkFan) on September 30, 2018, 9:31 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 There was a certain arrogance and stupidity in 1980s corporate America like New Coke and renaming Jack in the Box to Monterey Jack's that blew up in the suits' faces. And then there was Hasbro and Transformers The Movie and how Optimus Prime was sacrificed at the altar of corporate greed. You see, by this point many Transformer toys had been on the shelf for two years and Hasbro thought it was time to discontinue these products and plug the newer toys. So some moron decides, "Hey, since we aren't selling these toys anymore, let's just callously kill off all those characters in The Movie and have the new toys, I mean characters take their place." They actually thought kids were stupid sheep that would blindly accept this scenario. Of course, the opposite happened. Kids were traumatized by seeing their favorite characters that they had been following for over two years die like that and nobody was buying the newer (and inferior, by the way) toys. So Hasbro panics and about six months later Optimus Prime was resurrected. But it was too late; the Transformers boom was over. They should have just left well enough alone instead of trying to "shake things up". -- Submitted By: (Travoltron) on April 26, 2013, 11:07 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
3 The movie did change everything. It takes the series 20 years in the future and kills off almost every transformer you see in the first two seasons. I know they want to introduce new characters to sell more toys and when I was a kid I was all for that. However, this doesn't mean they have to kill off the characters all the kids were used to. They's could've had a kid focus group and find out the least popular ones and have those killed instead. The cartoon can still have new and old transformers. The stupidest transformer ever, Kup, an old-time transformer who's brand new? Come on. Ironhide should've been in that role and Kup killed by Megatron. -- Submitted By: (JamesO) on November 11, 2009, 9:27 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

5 One of my favourite animated shows at the time, but it boned with Transformers: The Movie. The movie itself was great, but the following season of the show picked up where it left off, with a different setting, different characters and really a whole different style. Didn't like it as well after that. -- Submitted By: (AndyC) on April 28, 2009, 9:32 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
