TV Shows - America's Next Top Model

America's Next Top Model (often shortened to Top Model or abbreviated as ANTM) is a reality television show in which a number of women compete for the title of America's Next Top Model and a chance to start their career in the modeling industry. The show was created and is hosted by veteran television personality, former supermodel and current talk-show host, Tyra Banks, who also serves as the head judge and executive producer of the show. The first "cycle" premiered in May 2003 and was one of UPN's highest rated shows. The show's seventh cycle was the first of the shows among regular programming on UPN's successor network, The CW, and thus far is the network's highest rated series. The show will continue until at least the 2009-10 season.

What was messed up was how they sent that one girl home knowing she had no home to go back to. Her home got destroyed during Hurricane Katrina and at elimination they told her, "your mind just isnt on this competition"...well her house got destroyed, maybe thats why?? -- Submitted By: (BTFan) on May 20, 2016, 2:54 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Also in Cycle 4 I think towards her last few episodes, Tocarra was treated badly. I mean not having the right sized outfits for a woman they already knew was plus sized, come on! The people behind the shoot were acting like, "Oh well, it's not our fault she's so damn big!" Tyra told Tocarra at judging that she needed to be able to work through that little mishap. Ummm it wasn't her fault and what could she really do about it? Hijack a car and ride to the nearest Lane Bryant to find some shit that actually fit her? Geez. Not that a plus sized girl ever has much of a shot in this thing to begin with. They make it SEEM like they actually have a chance of winning but by Episode 3, they're on the next thing smoking back home. -- Submitted By: (JTScomments) on August 18, 2014, 7:48 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Nicole sobbed like a five year old about those fucking Red Bulls and her photo's were so childlike. Then on the commercial, Nik clearly did better than her, as Nik did not try to blame the "blinding lights" for anything. I guess ANTM was basically trying to say, "blame your inability to properly deliver your lines on the lights and you'll be the next top model". Way to go. -- Submitted By: (JTScomments) on August 18, 2014, 7:02 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
When Tyra kicked Janice off the show it definitely started going downhill. And the last cycle worth watching is Cycle 6. After that, it became pointless. -- Submitted By: (JTScomments) on August 18, 2014, 6:39 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Not to mention the judges literally scolding the girls for not having good will toward each other. Uhhh, they shouldn't WANT their opponents to win or wish them "good luck" in finishing the competition. It was ridiculous for the judges to berate the contestants for not rooting for the other girls when they are supposed to be their to win. And don't get me started on how each season used to contain a certain type of girl to exploit (disabled girl, wrong side of the tracks girl, plus sized girl who NEVER wins, ghetto girl, racist white girl, one token Asian chick, ETC) LOL ANTM was a guilty pleasure though, but still, there's NO WAY people didn't notice these things if you've ever tuned in before -- Submitted By: (JTScomments) on August 18, 2014, 10:54 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Janice was the only one who was saying things that the modeling agency people might actually say. And she was funny too. I remember she really liked Brittany from season 4 (who Tyra seemed to think was too "Playboy") and I agreed with Janice, Brittany had the best pictures of anyone that season. But of course, Janice's picks ALWAYS got eliminated. -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on August 15, 2014, 8:42 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
The challenges, although very entertaining (at the expense of the girls, of course) got more and more ridiculous over time. Posing naked on ice in roller skates? Posing with real live tarantulas and then berating the girls who were rightfully terrified? Not everyone wants to hold a giant hairy arachnid in their hand or near their cheek. Getting mad at the girls who don't know how to dance to hip hop? LOL. Entertaining, yet in a twisted way. -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on August 15, 2014, 8:39 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Why did Tyra have "one-on-one counseling" sessions with the girls who have "issues" in their lives? I thought the show was called "America's Next Top Model", not "America's Next Top Guidance Counselor". Every cycle they put Tyra in a room with one of these girls and she gives them her "Giiiiirrrrl, I've been where you at, and you've gotta get your life together. I went from Inglewood to Hollywood, and you can't do that if you keep beating bitches up and stealing!" pep talk, and somehow after one counseling session with Tyra, the girl cries, tells her whole life story, and then has a complete change of heart and life? And why dud Tyra talk with a whispery, breathy voice during these "counseling session sequences" as well as in the final sequence where she tells them if they made it through or not? Does whispery, breathy voice= "I really care about you"?? -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on August 15, 2014, 8:32 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Tyra and Miss Jay were always telling somebody that they walk like they're on crack. I mean, even if it may be true, that isn't really helping. LOL. How about telling them how they can ya know, actually IMPROVE their walk? Granted, some of the girls DID walk like they were still evolving, but what do you expect when you stick somebody in 7 inch heels (for your entertainment) on a 2 inch runway on national television? Ppl end up going to the hospital and get threatened that if they aren't checked out by the time of the next elimination tomorrow night it will affect the judges' decisions on who goes home. Lol wow. -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on August 15, 2014, 8:27 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Not a shark jump moment, but I always laughed at the blatant product placements for Pantene, Banana Boat, etc. Mr. Jay would always endorse them under the guise of giving the girls direction for their photo shoot. "OK girls, today we're going to be using Pantene, because Pantene gives you great hair!" "You're all going to be wearing Banana Boat products, don't go out into the sun without your Banana Boat!" Gee, that's VERY subtle. -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on August 15, 2014, 8:20 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Nicole should NOT have won Cycle 5. She was bitchy and looked very "teen-magaziney". Tyra kept claiming that cycle that the so-called goal was to find the next high fashion top model but the most I could see Nicole doing is a Sears catalog. Janice could be mean a lot of the time but at least she was entertaining and sometimes she actually was truthful. But Twiggy was the ANTM version of Paul Abdul. She was always trying to be all PC and nice and not hurt anyone's feelings and let's face it, this is ANTM not Lambchop or Sesame Street. Nik was ROBBED. -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on August 15, 2014, 8:17 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
ANTM became too campy. It has always had it's campiness but somewhere along the line, the steam (which used to be amusing, no matter how harsh it could be) began to run out. When the show was at it's peak though, it was hilarious. Because let's face it, although thoroughly entertaining, a lot of the humor stemmed from the pettiness of the judges' critiques. "Oh, your left eyebrow is a yoctometer off center. That just isn't gonna fly, and nobody will take you seriously in this industry because of it!" "You're too damn short for Top Model! What the hell were you thinking. You look like a Smurf for God's sake!" Or, "You're breathing wrong. Good luck with winning this competition." As if it's somehow ALL the girl's fault. Constructive criticism is ONE thing but berating somebody for their looks/height after YOU picked them for the show, is completely retarded. Like when they kept telling Mercedes she was too "commercial" looking and that she looked cute but like a mall girl. Ummm why did you pick her in the first place then? Which BTW, I always thought she was gorgeous. But I digress. ANTM was good for comic relief but was annoying when they hardly ever picked the girls who deserved to win. -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on August 15, 2014, 8:13 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
One of the biggest mistakes was they got rid of Janice and then she was replaced by Twiggy. Twiggy would have been good for some British competition but this is ANTM. But even with her on the panel, seasons 5 & 6 were still entertaining, especially the latter. What really started to make it go downhill was some of the girls. Believe it or not, the girls on the show do partially determine how interesting/uninteresting a cycle might be. Cycle 6 had Danielle, Jade, Furonda, Joanie, Nnenna, etc. They were funny and not boring. I can barely remember any of the girls in any of the cycles after that. The show should have ended on a good note after Danielle won Cycle 6 but Tyra continued to drag out and squeeze every dollar she could out of ANTM. Now it's on about Cycle 307 and she's gotten rid of both of the J's & Nigel. The ratings are now going to be lower than Paris Hilton's IQ. I hate to see a show that was once funny & entertaining become such a shell of it's former self and completely go down the drain but it boned a long time ago, pass the tartar sauce. -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on November 28, 2012, 10:30 am - (6 votes) - Login to Vote
