Random Topics - Pirates

A pirate is a person who commits crimes or acts of terrorism against people or crews of seacraft on the high seas. Pirates have been around since people began seafaring, and the earliest documented instances of piracy were from 13th century B.C., in the Mediterranean area. Pirates are also a frequent subject in popular culture, seen in stories and movies including Treasure Island, Sinbad the Sailor, Peter Pan, the Japanese anime and manga series One Piece, and the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series.

1 Pirates will always be glamorized, just like the Mafia and Old West outlaws. Never mind that all three groups are/were composed (pretty much entirely) of psychopaths who would kill any of you for a dollar. The fact that they so easily reject the rules that keep societies from flying apart arouses a weird admiration in us. (A hundred years of Hollywood propaganda has helped too.) -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on April 7, 2011, 4:29 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 I may be in the minority, but I never did like pirates, not even as a kid. I just always saw them as the morally bankrupt people they always and still are. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on April 14, 2010, 10:13 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
3 As far as I'm concerned, pirates boned when they raided, stole and burned some of my ancestors' galleons (never mind where THEY got the riches from)! It would be nice if pirates were completely a phenom of past centuries but they're still wreaking havoc and causing serious problems in too many parts of the world! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on April 3, 2010, 4:37 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
4 Probably because pirates are a part of pop culture. Plus, the truth about about them (they're maritime terrorists, not the fun-loving seafarers depicted in works of fiction) can come out this way. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on March 20, 2010, 12:23 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
5 Why is pirates even on here? Didn't anyone pass junior high history and know what pirates were (and are) really like? Do people not understand the Pirates of the Caribbean is a fictional movie (and fun ride)? -- Submitted By: (MCS) on January 9, 2010, 1:15 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
6 Ever since the Somalia accounts of real-life pirates, the pop culture fantasies had faded off for me. I don't even think I can see the next Pirates of the Carribean movie the same anymore. -- Submitted By: (ocfernan) on October 21, 2009, 8:38 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
7 Pirates are not romantic, adventurous, or admirable. They were and are bloodthirsty, savage, barbarian criminals and terrorists. -- Submitted By: (BrewMaster) on August 17, 2009, 8:54 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
