TV Shows - Funky Phantom, The
The Funky Phantom was a Hanna-Barbera cartoon that aired on ABC. 17 episodes were produced; the original airdates were from September 1971 to January 1972. Similar to Scooby-Doo, The Funky Phantom was about a group of mystery-solving teenagers and their dog. The Funky Phantom's distinctive feature was that the teens also had the aid of a couple of ghosts: Jonathan Wellington "Mudsy" Muddlemore (the title character) and his cat, Boo. Mudsy and Boo had died during the Revolutionary War when they were hiding from the British in a grandfather clock and then couldn't get out of the clock. Mudsy was voiced by Daws Butler, best known for his voice work as Snagglepuss. Butler's voice work as Mudsy was identical to Snagglepuss, even down to Snagglepuss's mannerisms such as adding the word "even" to his sentences.

I remember seeing a few episodes of the show on TV (in reruns) and even a Funky Phantom coloring book! IMO, it rates a "still rocks" vote because having a ghost as a regular character made it stand out from the pack of Scooby-Doo knock-offs that were so prevalent back in the day. -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on November 7, 2016, 12:55 pm - (0 votes)
