Perhaps "Nikki's mom" should be a new random topic. I'll vote "Day 1". -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on August 10, 2012, 1:20 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
This wasn't a boning of Abby. I just wanted to show you an example of what kooky people the writers have to deal with. For letting her kid put stickers on her dead mother, Nikki's mom boned a whopper. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on October 10, 2011, 11:17 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Robert, I read the letter which you linked- and, to be fair, Abby sided with the letter writer[Nikki's aunt] instead of Nikki's kooky mom so I don't see how Abby herself instead of Nikki's mom could have boned in this particular instance. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on October 8, 2011, 5:38 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Get a load of this piece: http://www.chron.com/life/article/Abby-Niece-s-behavior-at-wake-presents-a-sticky-2195647.php .....The mother of "Nikki" allows her kid to put stickers on a dead person, and she's whining that the writer "undermined" her parenting? The only parenting I saw came from the 18-year old for undoing the mess Nikki created, and the writer for finally getting rid of the girl. I guess Nikki's mom lashed out because she's embarrassed that a mere teenager did a better job of parenting than she did. Like they say, some people shouldn't have kids. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on October 6, 2011, 9:47 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I agree. One letter written to Dear Abby pretty much said "my boyfriend thinks I am fat, what should I do?". Any idiot should know the answer to that. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on May 15, 2011, 1:41 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Alas, Soggy, there really ARE that many clueless people out there. Speaking of busted moral compasses, I recall one letter: the writer was in love with a guy who was already taken and wanted to break up their relationship. She asked Abby how she could do it. Abby replied that she should read her other columns: it was a nice way of calling her an idiot to ask for such advice. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on May 15, 2011, 10:40 am - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
It's hard to believe ANY of the letters this woman replies to are real. Are there truly so many clueless folks out there who write to her for advice? I mean, some of these letters appear to be written by people who would need advice on the best order in which to arrange their morning bathroom routine. ("Dear Abby, should I shower first and then brush my teeth, or the other way around?") We all know that there are plenty of our fellow citizens whose moral compass doesn't always point north, but how many of them, in this 21st century, are likely to get the idea to write to an advice columnist? -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on May 14, 2011, 10:04 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Half the advice she posts anymore is pure rubbish, and the fake letters... Some are so clearly obvious, yet she still gives the letters the time and day, which only encourages more fake letters. -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on November 23, 2010, 3:48 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Dear Abby ... how about getting a real job and contributing to society instead of telling us what YOU think is OK?. -- Submitted By: (JustLooking) on November 22, 2010, 7:55 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
