Nick at Nite Comments (You must Login to Comment)

1 I agree with the last person. We see something funny happen in the credits of "Family Matters" and we are interrupted by some useless ad! Even during the last half-hour (4:30 A.M.), too! Now, the actual comment: While at first I thought Nick at Nite was keeping up with the times in terms of classics ("Home Improvement", "Family Matters", and "The Nanny" are examples; I know people my age aren't used to seeing these shows as "classics" because we still remember these shows on ABC, ABC->CBS, and CBS, respectively), that is no longer the case. Now we are seeing same-decade shows like "George Lopez", "Malcolm in the Middle", and recently, "Everybody Hates Chris" (the latter being on a young network, the CW) on the lineup. Sure, these may have been the best shows of the 2000's, but now is definately not the time for these shows to be on NaN! What really disappoints me are two things: first, the short life of the older shows on the network. When my family and I started watching cable at home in 1997, Nick at Nite was an all-classics, all the time channel (until the 50s-early 80s shows were dropped circa 2002). I was obsessed by shows like "Happy Days", "I Love Lucy", "The Odd Couple", "Newhart", "Mary Tyler Moore", "The Munsters", "Laverne and Shirley", "The Brady Bunch", and others. They had only one recent show on ("The Wonder Years"), but that did not bother me too much (as it was supposed to take place in the 60's). I liked how they progressed in terms of old times; in 2001, they had an 80's-themed week, and they started showing all kinds of 80's shows, including the short-lived "Square Pegs" (1982-83). (BTW, the 80's is my favorite decade ever, like what most people think.) Wait...let me go back to '97 here - I remember loving "Home Improvement" to death growing up (when it was on ABC), and I imagined myself in my own house in 2012, watching "HI" on Nick at Nite on a regular basis! Well, my dream came 5 years early, and guess what? THEY ONLY HAD "HI" ON FOR 1.5 YEARS IN PRIMETIME! The show, I believe, was moved to, like, 2 in the morning, when I am asleep! Same with the other only old shows left on the channel! That just shows you that they don't care about the classics anymore! Second, the audience they are trying to aim for. Nick at Nite used to play friendly commercials for kids toys, kitchen items, hardware, etc. Around 2005 or so, they started playing bad commercials that most strict families would switch off of! Not just for movies, but for stuff you buy at Wal-Mart and more! I seem to wonder if the ad companies custom make these commercials for channels like this and ABC Family just to P.O. such families! (LOL) Anyway, this channel (and TV Land) have become a joke now. Luckily, channel 52 here in North Texas has an extensive classic lineup, and see if your local stations have (or ask them to provide) bonus digital classic stations like the Retro Television Network and This TV (both of which, unfortunately, aren't available where I live yet; stupid O&O rulings!) Check for some deals on TV DVD sets, if you have the time and money! That way, we can all have something to look forward to on TV every day! -- Submitted By: (SVN) on September 16, 2009, 5:35 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 The split-screen credits are annoying. Instead of watching the Family Matters credits in which James Avery makes a cameo appearance, I had to watch an advertisement for "Bet the House" that I had already seen thousands of times before. -- Submitted By: (ScottyB) on July 30, 2009, 1:37 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
