It boned when they tried to bring it back in the late 1980s without Chuck. Instead they had some guy named Don Bleu hosting it. Yeah, I know, WHO?! -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on June 12, 2012, 3:56 pm - (0 votes)

The Gong Show boned when the show became more about Barris, Jaye P Morgan, and gags like unknown comic and Gene Gene the Dancing Machine then the contestants. Both Gene and the comic gags were getting very stale after so many showings.
The movie was the stake through the heart of the show. -- Submitted By: () on October 22, 2011, 9:19 pm - (1 votes)

A ridiculously simple formula that was nonetheless ahead of its time. The kind of ironic humor so common today was pretty hard to find in the '70s, but the Gong Show had it in spades. Chuck Barris was simply a genius. The show never boned. -- Submitted By: (Soggy9000) on May 5, 2011, 3:04 am - (-2 votes)

A 100% improvement over the likes of America's Newest Idol or Dancing With the Stars. -- Submitted By: (jgf) on October 9, 2010, 1:48 am - (0 votes)

I still don't understand how this show became a lightning rod for TV bashers. I mean, it was goofy, cheesy and occasionally risque, but it's head and shoulders above a lot of the crap out there today. -- Submitted By: (AndyC) on April 3, 2010, 12:20 pm - (-1 votes)

The genius of Chuck Barris, plus juicy Jaye P. Morgan, the unknown comic (with a paper bag over his head), stagehand Gene Gene the Dancing Machine. What's not to love? -- Submitted By: (JohnWest) on October 17, 2009, 11:57 am - (-1 votes)
