The Super Nintendo Entertainment System was Nintendo's second home console, following the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The console introduced advanced graphics and sound capabilities compared with other consoles at the time. Additionally, development of a variety of enhancement chips (which shipped as part of certain game cartridges) helped to keep it competitive in the marketplace.

1 I think all things considered, this is probably the greatest video game system that has ever come out. It took the fun of the regular NES, improved the graphics, sound and overall gameplay, kept it simple enough to appeal to everyday gamers, but added some new buttons to give more serious gamers some challenge, had a massive library of games from both first party and third party developers, and stuck to the foundation while competitor Genesis strayed off course and developed unnecessary accessories. The only real negative was when Nintendo got a little carried away with censoring violence, but once the ratings system was established, that problem was solved. They never had all things in place like they did with the SNES and they haven't reached that level since. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on June 27, 2012, 10:21 am - (3 votes) - Login to Vote
2 In my view, the SNES is/was probably Nintendos' best system to date. The games were great. Especially Donkey Kong series. This game alone had great graphics, music and finally Donkey Kong was more than an 8 bit, temper tantrum, barrel throwing, gingerbread looking man. 5 Sega slammed Nintendo for not having a 16-bit system when they advertised their Genesis. Nintendo fans were not amused, and it turned many of us off. A few years later, the Super Nintendo was released...and man, did it ROCK. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Donkey Kong Country, Mega Man, Mega Man X...stop me if I'm wrong! -- Submitted By: (Robert) on February 14, 2010, 1:41 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

7 I still own my super nintendo, and still have fun playing it. It also has one of the greatest libraries of games of all video game systems. -- Submitted By: (EricP) on June 12, 2009, 9:52 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
