Final Fantasy is a role-playing game series created by Hironobu Sakaguchi, and developed and owned by Squaresoft (which merged with Enix to become Square Enix on April 1, 2003). The very first Final Fantasy was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System on 1987 in Japan (1990 in North America). Final Fantasy II and Final Fantasy III were released in Japan on 1988 and 1990, respectively. Though North Americans know Final Fantasy II and III as Super Nintendo Entertainment System titles, they are in fact Final Fantasy IV (released in 1991) and Final Fantasy VI (released in 1994), as Squaresoft did not release the Japanese versions of II and III for the NES in North America. Final Fantasy VII was the first installment for the Sony Playstation in 1997, and it focused on more modern settings, as well as polygonal designs. It was followed by Final Fantasy VIII (released in 1999) and IX (released 2000). In 2001, Final Fantasy X was released, followed by Final Fantasy XI (which was a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game, aka MMORPG) in 2002. Final Fantasy XII was released in 2006. Square Enix is currently planning to release Final Fantasy XIII. Some characters in this franchise include Cid, Cecil, Kain, Mog, Cloud, Wakka, and Sephiroth. Final Fantasy has been made into anime, CGI films, and novellas.

Kefka has got to be one of the most evil villains ever, if not the most evil FF villain of all time. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on January 29, 2011, 12:57 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I agree with Mr. Zimpy's assessment - FF6 was the last great one. There are lots of moments and musical numbers that get me misty-eyed (Forever Rachel is a case in point). I might have enjoyed FF7 if my brother didn't get so addicted he would speak of nothing but FF7 - it drove me crazy. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on January 14, 2011, 10:05 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Final Fantasy 6 was the last great one, after that it all went down the toilet and to the left. -- Submitted By: (Mr.Zimpy) on January 2, 2011, 5:44 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I love FFVII and FFVIII, and FFIX was pretty damn good. FFX was sorta meh... I like playing Blitzball more than actually playing the game. FFX-2 just sucks. The whole plot of the game is just pointless, I realized that not even halfway through and just stopped playing it. They did better with XII (haven't played XI yet cause MMOs don't interest me enough to pay a monthly fee for them... I get into them for about a week or two, sometimes playing them for 8-12 hours a day, then I lose interest). I'm glad XIII is coming to the XBox 360, cause that's the only new console I own, so I'll give it a try. -- Submitted By: (asmariamoon) on January 26, 2010, 11:14 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
