TV Shows - Jeffersons, The
They're movin' on up! The Jeffersons was an American sitcom which was a spinoff of All in the Family. It was based on the lives of the Bunker's neighbors, who moved to a "dee-luxe apartment in the sky" in Manhattan. It starred Isabel Sanford as the sassy and kind-hearted Louise, Sherman Hemsley as her bigoted and ambitious husband George, and Mike Evans as their son, Lionel. The series ran from 1975 to 1985.

"Musical Lionels" didn't kill this show, but it sure stole from its credibility. "Replacement Lionel" was so one-dimensional they ended up writing the character out altogether rather than continue the travesty. How can you replace Mike Evans as Lionel? He played it so perfectly, even if his funniest, edgiest bits were on All In The Family and not really this. Fortunately, when "Lionel" later returned, it was with Mike Evans, which is how it should be. R.I.P. Mike Evans. He died young. -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on October 9, 2012, 3:57 pm - (1 votes)

The show was great. The chemistry between George and Louise was fantastic and Florence and Mother Jefferson were terrific foils. The actress who played Mother Jefferson died so the character went with her. You might say she moved on up, to that deluxe place, in the sky... -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on March 6, 2012, 1:54 am - (0 votes)

It wasn't the same after Mother Jefferson died. Always liked that she never claimed to feel guilty about living high on the hog AND was the only one who didn't treat Weezy like she was a saint! If only she had lived to see her great-granddaughter born so they could have ganged up against the more boring middle generations. I wonder if the show would have lasted ten episodes(much less ten seasons) had there never been Mother Jefferson or Florence? -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on August 16, 2009, 2:28 pm - (1 votes)

What an awesome show! I second Florence as my favorite.
I think it BTF when Lionel and his wife divorced. That wasn't necessary. -- Submitted By: (SilverFang) on August 12, 2009, 3:57 pm - (1 votes)

I never miss this show. I love Florence. She so funny and also put that Mr. Jefferson in his place. That don't have no good shows like this anymore. -- Submitted By: (shanequia) on June 4, 2009, 6:51 pm - (1 votes)
