The Yankees actually did a "Macarena Night" at the stadium in 1996. They also briefly replaced "YMCA" as their 7th inning stretch grounds crew dance song with "The Macarena", and immediately embarked on a lengthy losing streak. Rumor has it George Steinbrenner himself, who was notoriously superstitious, ordered the song changed back. This song always bit the wire, but when a song makes your favorite team suck, it has truly BTF. What gets me is, why "Macarena Night"? Is this a common thing to do for one-hit wonders? Maybe we can have "Kung Fu Fighting Night" or "I Eat Cannibals Night"? Makes me wonder why George Costanza got so much ridicule for proposing "Jon Voigt Day" at the stadium on Seinfeld. At least ol' Jon had more than one "hit." -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on August 27, 2012, 11:23 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

Don't look now, but I could swear I heard this abomination again in a recent ad... The first few times I heard this I swear I thought the chorus was "Hey, Margarita". -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on September 29, 2010, 8:12 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
The only time I cared about the Macarena was when I was at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville welcoming the Jaguars back from their postseason victory in Denver in their first trip to the NFL playoffs. Other than that...didn't really care one way or another. -- Submitted By: (BigAl) on September 9, 2010, 11:07 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Although I do like the "Macadamia Nut" dance by the Animaniacs! Narf! -- Submitted By: (PrinceJ) on August 4, 2010, 7:03 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
My grandma knew how to do this dance and I die from embarassment. she do it in public in the middle of sears once and i stuck my head between the dresses on the rack and pretend like i dont even know her. well she no longer be living now but i should have had that song played during her funeral. she would have loved that as they lowered her in the ground. -- Submitted By: (shanequia) on May 17, 2010, 11:05 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

One lame song & dance. Glad that it's dead. -- Submitted By: (FlxibleMetro9150) on November 26, 2009, 3:43 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
I liked and could do the dance when it was at peak. But it was the Americanized Bayside Boys remix that boned it badly. I recall the stupid lyrics and equally silly video (which hardly did the dance). Hearing the American one over and over (and not the original one) was what started killing it for me. ugh! -- Submitted By: (ocfernan) on October 2, 2009, 5:37 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
The Macarena is dead. In its place is "Soulja Boy". -- Submitted By: (ScottyB) on July 30, 2009, 6:00 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
Not one of my fave dances by any means and I think its biggest sin was that it was played to death but come on, isn't it better than moshing in which injuries are almost a given while trying to 'dance' to stuff that's being screamed instead of sung or line dancing in which everyone's expected to do complicated, exuburant steps and kicks to some of the dullest country music? Still, I'd prefer its ultimate ancestor the flamenco (which has proven immortal) to it any day! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on July 1, 2009, 1:26 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
A star is going to make another cheesy summerhit with it mix some new tunes and there's Macarena 2010. I hope I'm wrong. -- Submitted By: (kitchenbreak) on July 1, 2009, 3:34 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

If I never hear that song again it will be too soon. The first time I heard it, I wanted to drive nails into my head. -- Submitted By: (meQal) on May 26, 2009, 5:04 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
