TV Shows - Monday Night Football

Monday Night Football (MNF) is a live television broadcast of the National Football League. Originally airing on the ABC network from 1970 to 2005, Monday Night Football was the second longest running prime time show on American broadcast network television (after CBS' 60 Minutes) and one of the highest-rated, particularly among male viewers. ABC aired a total of 555 Monday night games. Monday Night Football moved to the ESPN cable network in 2006, ending a 36-year run on ABC. ABC and ESPN are both owned by The Walt Disney Company. Monday Night Football can also be seen in Canada on TSN and RIS, in most of Europe on NASN, on Five and Sky Sports in the UK, in most of Australia on One HD and in some regions of the world outside the U.S. on ESPN International. A Spanish language version airs on ESPN Deportes in the U.S. and on ESPN International in Latin America.

Monday Night Football Comments (You must Login to Comment)

1 I can't stand MNF anymore. I didn't think it could get worse than Kornheiser or Dennis Miller, but Jon Gruden is quickly giving them both a run for their money. Gruden is so annoying and over the top with everything. Plus he is so arrogant. Really, anymore I can't stand anything on ESPN. Oh well, guess I'll stick with CBS, NBC, FOX and the NFL Network for my football fix. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on August 29, 2011, 3:38 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
2 OlePuddinHead, maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see anyone on this board (this topic) complaining about football. They are complaining about the MNF program, the announcers, the presentation, not the actual game. I think people can also agree that with cable and football on multiple times a week the need to have a show like MNF isn't as necessary as it once was. Football could be on Tuesday on TNT or Wednesday or Spike TV or Thursday on USA, whatever. People will watch it anyday of the week at anytime and with technology they can. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on November 3, 2010, 4:10 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
3 Hmm lets see the No.1 rated program on cable is,, MNF. Lets see what the No 1 rated program on regular tv is.. oh thats right SNF. Yeah football is awful isnt it ? Stop your whining and just accept the fact that football is the biggest money make and no matter how much people complain, it isnt going anywhere. -- Submitted By: (OlePuddinHead) on November 3, 2010, 12:44 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
4 Kingbk, you might as well have had a hammer when you made that post, because you NAILED it! At this point Monday night football's about as relevant as the institution of marriage! -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on July 20, 2010, 8:22 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
5 Monday Night Football is a product of the past that just doesn't have the relevance it once had. The program was meant for three channel television, when you were lucky to get two football games on TV a week. Today, there is football on multiple channels on multiple days a week. It's one of those things people just need to hang on to hang on to, like Dick Clark doing New Years, Saturday Morning Cartoons and other relics that should be retired. The show was always Howard Cosell's show, and though Frank Gifford and Al Michaels both did commendable jobs taking over, you sensed it was never their show. You knew it was past its prime when they tried putting Dennis Miller on it and then Tony Kornheiser. The celebrity worship, crass commercialism and lopsided games are other reasons this boned this fish. This game could be on Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday for all I care anymore. -- Submitted By: (kingbk) on July 18, 2010, 6:29 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

7 Howard Cosell should never have been fired the way he was. He commented on Washington Redskins WR Alvin Garrett's elusiveness when he said, "That little monkey gets loose, doesn't he?"--but because Garrett was black, some idiots thought it was a racial remark. Ever try catching a monkey in your backyard? Other mistakes in MNF history: O.J. Simpson as commentator, Joe Namath as commentator (Howard Cosell is right, most ex-jocks suck as broadcasters; guys like Sean Salisbury and Trev Alberts are rare exceptions), and Dennis Miller as commentator. -- Submitted By: (markrabo) on September 29, 2009, 3:25 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

9 The sudden celebrity worship--as if America needed any MORE of that. And most of the time the people they picked to chatter on mindlessly with while the game was going on weren't even that famous at that moment in time. Hey, forget about this football stuff, let's talk with Christian Slater for 10 minutes!!! Yeah!!! Leave the celebs to TMZ, Access Hollywood and Entertainment Tonight and give me back my football, dammit!!! -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on June 10, 2009, 12:06 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
10 I am soooooo glad they canned Kornheiser. Of course Chuckie isn't exactly the most animated person around to replace him, but at least he isn't Kornheiser. -- Submitted By: (JoeBagODonuts) on June 3, 2009, 9:26 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
