Maybe it was because I was in junior high at the time, but in the early 1980s it seemed Imus was one top of his game. Then at some point, I don't know if it was the addition of Howard Stern on WNBC, or when WNBC became WFAN, but he stopped being funny. All his best routines, Geraldo Santana Banana, Earl C. Watkins, Billy Saul Hargas, Moby Worm, et al were dropped and replaced with his lame, mumbly ruminating about his ranch, and calls from his brother Fred. Charles McCord being the only mainstay from his prime. When he replaced Curtis & Kuby on WABC after the "nappy headed hoes" controversy blew over, I stopped listening to WABC. Curtis & Kuby should never have been thrown over for this has-been, and that's from a former fan. -- Submitted By: (ParkerTillman) on July 9, 2012, 4:13 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
The problem with what Imus said - as opposed to other people saying equally offensive things - is that his target a) wasn't fictional or anonymous; and b) wasn't a celebrity. He attacked some young girls who played basketball. They aren't fair game. That's the problem. -- Submitted By: (Carlo) on July 31, 2009, 1:59 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
The irony is that Imus was an offensive jerk all along and when he finally gets called on it, it's in such a lame over the top PC manner that it actually made me sympathetic to him. -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on June 10, 2009, 1:41 am - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
By the way Robert- i do agree with you, the amount of vitriol directed at Imus from the Black community was laughable, since what the hip/hop rap industry makes is about 1000x more offensive and vile, and they are regarded as heros, but Imus is bad because he called some black girls Nappy Headed Ho's? It was just another chance for Al Sharpton and Jess Jackson to grandstand. I liked how the one BB players for Rutgers filed a 100m dollar lawsuit or some such nonsense for being degraded....all this was was hypocrites pretending to be offened for $$$ and attention. All that said, Imus still sucks as a broadcaster- hard. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on May 8, 2009, 1:47 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Yeah. I never even heard of him until the Nappy-headed ho incident. You gotta watch what you say, Imus... -- Submitted By: (Robert) on May 8, 2009, 1:42 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Imus looks and sounds like the Crypt Keeper, he was lucky the nappy headed Ho's thing came out, at least it gave him some attention, since his ratings are worse than the folks he replaced on air after the "incident". I've also wondered how anyone can listen to him, he is almost to the point he sounds like he just rasps and grunts from time to time. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on May 8, 2009, 1:37 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
How come he's tarred and feathered for calling the women on the basketball team "Nappy headed hos", but all the celebrities - especially womanizers and the misogynous musicians who call women WAY worse things in their songs - are not? It's as fair as executing a man for stealing some eggs while the people who steal sheep and cows are spared. -- Submitted By: (Robert) on May 8, 2009, 1:26 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
