Hip hop music is a music genre typically consisting of a rhythmic vocal style called rap which is accompanied with backing beats. Hip hop music is part of hip hop culture, which began in the Bronx, in New York City in the 1970s, predominantly among African Americans and Latin Americans. The term rap music is often used synonymously with hip hop music.

Hip-hop/rap jumped the shark when it became too club-friendly. Even in the gangsta rap era, when the industry became saturated with violence, many of the songs still had some sort of message to say about life in the slums. AMEN BRUTHA!!! And to think, back in the 70s and 80s people thought "satanic" rock music was going to cause the destruction of America..."Hip hop" is ten times worse than rock ever dreamed of being!!!
