TV Shows - Captain Planet and the Planeteers

Captain Planet and the Planeteers is an American animated environmentalist television program, based on an idea by Ted Turner and produced by Andy Heyward, Robby London, Barbara Pyle and Nicholas Boxer. The series was developed and co-produced by Turner Program Services and DiC Entertainment and ran new episodes from September 10, 1990 until December 5, 1992. A sequel series, The New Adventures of Captain Planet, ran from three seasons and was produced by Turner Broadcasting and then-corporate sibling Hanna-Barbera Productions. Both programs continue today in syndication. The program is a form of edutainment, which advocates the United Nations as an organization, and the concepts of globalism, multiculturalism, and environmentalism generally.

Captain Planet and the Planeteers Comments (You must Login to Comment)

Were Michael Moore or Susan Sarandon writers on the show LOL? and NAME voices?? The show seemed very anti-authority. Regarding Chubby Rain's comment, Migthy orbots was only good in giving Sherry Alberoni (Alexandra the beeyotch on Josie) and Julie Bennett (Cindy bear in Yogi Bear, various such as Sagebrush Sally on Quick Draw, etc.) from older Hanna-Barbera new voice work. Finally, mentioning corporate business would be slander and even worse (as jconifer7 says, no sponsors if such happened.) -- Submitted By: (PokeyJHorse) on July 10, 2015, 3:15 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Earth, wind, water, fire, heart go Planet, step by step oooh baby gonna get to you giiirllllllll. The ending theme to this He-Man ripoff could have been more original. Sorry I unleashed that upon your ears, I'm not a fan of the New Kids on the Block either. -- Submitted By: (tvwatcher7) on September 13, 2014, 5:30 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I don't think there are words that can properly express my hatred of this show and all it's characters. First of all, this is supposed to be a kids' show. So why in the hell is this show about saving the environment, ozone layer, and recycling? And I know the show is trying to make little kids conscious about pollution and all that stuff, but come on, they are KIDS. And this is a cartoon! You only get to be a kid once. It force feeds them preachy messages about shit they couldn't care less about. When this would come on, I used to immediately change the channel. I never wanted to see some blue dude who obviously had no wife or gf, fly around the city with a bunch of kids, bitching about how people don't care about Earth and how we are all going to die if you accidentally drop a Coke can in the bottle bin. I have no problem with recycling, and I do it, but Captain Planet was so damn dramatic. Even if I decide to not recycle one day, we are not all "doomed" and it would not make me an evil person. LOL. To top it off, the show was boring as hell, a damn snoozefest. "Captain Planet" was one of the lamest so-called superheroes in the history of the world. -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on April 25, 2014, 12:06 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Total propaganda show however it had a a few refreshingly real moments. It definately boned when the aliens showed up. I'm glad we didn't have to see the version they would have made in the uber PC future. Linka would be dating Qwame; Wheeler would be dating Gee; Ma Ti would still be a wuss. White males would be even more double minus bad etc. -- Submitted By: (ExTVLover) on May 21, 2013, 4:15 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote

Normally, I would of voted "Eco-Propaganda", but at least you knew what this show was about, so you can't say it blindsides you with some propaganda the people making the show want to slam on you. Yes, keeping a good, clean environment is good, but the way this show went about things, it bordered on overly preachy. 7 How much pollution do you suppose went in to producing and distributing this crappy, self-righteous cartoon? Smokey the Bear, Woodsy Owl,and McGruff were cooler than this.(though not by much) -- Submitted By: (Jp) on August 24, 2011, 7:54 pm - (2 votes) - Login to Vote

Gea's power (sorry if I'm not spelling these right) of water only worked if they were NEAR water. I mean Linka can summon hurricanes and gale force winds at will, and Quami can move mountains... Wheeler's stuck with that useless lazer beam, Gea has to be near an ocean, and Ma Tee gets a goddam Care Bear Stare as his power. And Gaea, the spirit of the earth, has powers just as weak as Ma Tee's. She was being attacked once by some guy (cant remember) and what does she do? Raise her hands and release untold apocalyptic destruction that you would expect coming from THE SPIRIT OF THE GODDAM EARTH??? Nope. She summons a gang of chimps to come to her rescue by attacking the bad guy. Ugh... and her solution, Captain Planet, is allergic to all the things he's supposed to stop. Its like superman being allergic to crime. They need to remake this series with a few MAJOR adjustments. -- Submitted By: (KaseyAkira) on March 16, 2010, 3:02 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
The powers are terribly unbalanced. Everyone's bagging on Ma'Tee's power of heart being useless, but Wheeler's power was just as useless. Come on, when did FIRE ever help them? If they were trapped in a cage, the locks were fire proof. If a wall of ice trapped them in a cave, the ice had pollution in it and his ring wouldn't work. If they needed to burn a hole through a wall, there was gas in the air and his fire might set it off. If they were in a forest, his ring might burn the forest down... dear god WHEN IS WHEELER GOOD FOR ANYTHING except acting overly stereotypically American??? I mean a ray of concentrated heat in the form of a lazer might even be good for shooting down a bad guy's plane or something but that would be too violent and we cant show that either. The only time Wheeler ever did anything good was in the opening credits... when he managed to melt a road way and made someone's car fall into the liquid tar. -- Submitted By: (KaseyAkira) on March 16, 2010, 2:56 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
Well I wouldn't expect a kid to be taking on some big corporation on pollution, or going after people who litter with little regard to what happens, but its a great idea to put into kids heads that they need to do good for the environment, even it its something little as cleaning a stream, or picking up litter on the side of a road -- Submitted By: (PYLrulz) on January 5, 2010, 3:09 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
While the show had good intentions it never really taught kids any really effective means of helping the environment. Sure, you can clean up a part of a stream, but that won't do anything about the root problem (ie- littering, corporate pollution). Not that kids have any influence whatsoever over the root problems to begin with. Again, good intentions but largely ineffective. -- Submitted By: (Maskdt) on January 5, 2010, 10:44 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
The importance of Heart of course, is that without it, Captain Planet would simply be another Eco-Villain but with limitless powers at his disposal. But that aside, the show was corny and lame, but for whatever reason, my friends and I remember it fondly, maybe not necessarily for it being a great show, though. -- Submitted By: (SamuraiPanda201) on December 13, 2009, 9:52 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
I think this show in many ways did more of a disservice towards understanding ecological issues. The main problem is that it never really pointed out who the real bad guys are. They created all these recurring villains that share the goal in covering the world in toxic waste but without any affiliation to industry. But then again, if Captain Planet was fighting corporate interests and regular people, then companies would refuse to advertise on the show. This was not a well thought out idea. -- Submitted By: (jconifer7) on November 23, 2009, 10:47 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
One of my most hated cartoons of all time. And I love Cartoons- give me Mighty Orbots, Centurions or MASK any day in the 80's. Planeteers can go have some slaw and chips with vinegar over at LJS with Captain Planet! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on September 30, 2009, 8:52 am - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
This is one of my all-time favorite shows as a kid. Contrary to what people say, it is NOT overly preachy. This is the best it gets in displaying graphically (even if animated) pollution takes its toll on the environment. Even if there is only one planeteer (especially heart- it helps get the animals to follow Ma-Ti's lead and he knows a few good moves too) they can be saved. Kwame was my favorite as he was voiced by LeVar Burton (of Reading Rainbow fame). People, look at this show with your heart, not your eyes or ears. -- Submitted By: (AaronGookin) on September 30, 2009, 8:36 am - (2 votes) - Login to Vote
Quick planeteers,we need your help to save the earth! wait a minute, only one of you showed up? and your power is.....heart....we're screwed. -- Submitted By: (EricP) on June 11, 2009, 8:58 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote

This was a good show, but it did get a little extreme there in the end. Did anybody else love the mullet that Captain Planet had? :) -- Submitted By: (MCS) on June 1, 2009, 11:10 pm - (1 votes) - Login to Vote
