1 I live in Texas, where our Safeways operate under the "Tom Thumb" ("Randall's" in Houston/Austin) banner. I remember "TT" when they were a totally local store. Safeway bought "TT" circa late 90's, bringing Safeway back to the Lone Star State. It was great, because I have not shopped at Safeway since moving out of the Seattle area a few years back. Well, it didn't turn out what I expected it to be nearing the end of the 2000s! The "Tom Thumb" near my family's house was remodeled and the store was only 6 (S-I-X) years old!!!!! It's almost 10 years old now; that store should have been remodeled for the first time in 2010 or 2011! Even worse is the Irving "Tom Thumb"; this was the first ever supermarket we've ever been to in Texas and that store is really old! For countless years shoppers were accustomed to totally retro interiors! In 2003, the store finally got a much-needed facelift to the early 2000's Safeway design. In 2008 (FIVE YEARS LATER), the store remodeled again! A perfectly good remodel gone to waste! Not very green, are they????? They should be called "Wasteway" because of the unnecessary remodeling of young stores and even younger remodels!!!!! A good practice: wait 10-15 years before remodeling a store!!!!! -- Submitted By: (SVN) on November 7, 2009, 9:25 pm - (0 votes) - Login to Vote
