Bone The Fish - Most Recent Comments!

Who said you can't coin your own term? What is "Boning the Fish"? It's a moment. A defining moment when you know that your favorite TV Show, Celebrity, Movie Series or Music Group has reached its peak. That instant you know from now on...it's all downhill. Some call it a climax of sorts. We call it "Boning the fish". From that moment on things will simply never be the same.

Wonder Years, The - TV Shows
I would say "The Wonder Years" really boned the fish when the 5th season started. It seemed like the fourth season was going to be the last (hence the 23rd episode titled "The Wonder Years") as it should have been, but, they decided to drag it out for another two more years. Granted, some of the episodes in the last two seasons were great (especially the twist ending), but, I'm glad it ended after that. It worked a lot better when the kids were younger. As soon as Kevin started having a growth spurt, he stopped being a cute little kid, Paul stopped wearing his glasses which made his geeky persona essentially nonexistent, and, as far as Winnie, nothing much I can say about her other than what regular teenagers normally go through during puberty. Another problem I'd also like to point out: Paul and Winnie pretty much took a backseat to Kevin's love life. I know this show pretty much revolved around Kevin's character, but, it seems as though the writers forgot that the whole purpose of "The Wonder Years" was to show a child growing up with his friends and family during that time period. Even the last season started kind of an early '90s vibe to it. All in all, this show will always hold a special place in my heart. I was sad when they cancelled it, but, it was time to let it go. -- Submitted By: (ARNGUS) on September 20, 2015, 5:23 pm

Wow, im speachless. Konami just announced that they're halting all AAA development except for pro evolution soccer. How can a company bone this bad in such a short amount of time. The phantom pain was great, but now that they've driven away all the developers that made them great to focus on pachinko, mobile, and thier many non-gaming ventures they really gone off the deep end.Good job konami good job. When kojima did the moby dick studio stunt when he announced metal gear 5, it was obviously telling us that konamis about to bone big time and take all its historic franchises with it. -- Submitted By: (jgm4789) on September 18, 2015, 5:33 pm

Lindsay Lohan - Celebrities
Despite my IMDB.com signature that I put (see my last posting here) I still have and like many Lindsay movies.. BUT she needs a GOOD roast..by LISA LAMPANELLI or ME..(:))..with her preferably NOT present...on Comedy CENTRAL particularly... THE ROAST OF LINDSAY LOHAN 1. "When she got out of one of her car crashes, that wasn't blood from injuries but from her period." 2. "Lindsay Lohan does NOT have freckles. She has perpectual measels. Or is it Chicken Pox?" 3. "Lindsay Lohan can be very easily detected from 20 miles away. If you smell a very strong, very ROTTEN tuna smell----well....it is her...!" 4. "Lindsay Lohan was only hired for that Disney comedy "Teenage Drama Queen"(partial title) to do those put on disgusies ONLY because AMANDA BYNES was currently unavailable"(and sadly Amanda Bynes joined Lindsay but still...my Internet Movie Datasbase message board signature "preferring" her over LL still stands..especially since I did not use italics LOL) 5. "Lindsay Lohan loves older men..even as a little girl in her first, "Parent Trap" (the Hayley Milles 1961 movie remake in 1998), that she did a "Lolita" job on the men in the film"./ -- Submitted By: (PokeyJHorse) on September 12, 2015, 10:51 am

Law and Order SVU - TV Shows
Mostly I really like this show, but I kinda agree with the person above about too much detail. I personally find it too triggering, but it might be helpful for some people to know that other people go through that too, so that they know they're not alone. I can see why the amount of detail exists, but I am not always in a headspace to stomach it. I feel like it kinda went downhill in the last few seasons. I disliked the shifting emphasis from cases onto the personal lives of the team. -- Submitted By: (J29G) on September 10, 2015, 8:06 pm

7th heaven - TV Shows
Sometimes I like to sit down and hate watch this show. It was always rather stupid. I don't blame the actress who played Mary for wanting to leave. As far as the Ruthie goes, I think TV shows tend to really try and keep the youngest kid as young as possible well beyond what they should. I think at some point it was obvious that Ruthie was aging, yet she kept getting immature little kid dialog. I think that's why she comes across as irritating a lot of the time. -- Submitted By: (J29G) on September 10, 2015, 7:52 pm

Frankie Muniz - Celebrities
The 911 call is hilarious! The best part is when Malcolm, err Frankie, tells the operator that he is a celebrity. I don't know what she was expected to do with that piece of information, maybe make sure the press arrived along with the cops? Anyway, here's what happened: Muniz: "I'm a celebrity." Operator: "You're a what? A celebrity?" Muniz: "Yes, that's right, I'm a celebrity." Operator: "Ok, who are you?" Muniz: "I'm Frankie Muniz." Opeartor: "Who? Frankie who?" Muniz: "Muniz! I'm Frankie Muniz! Frankie Muniz!" Operator: "Um. Ok. We'll still send someone out there." She clearly had no idea who he was or why he insisted on telling her that he was famous. Since then, 4 years later, he's still with the psycho-girlfriend and claims they are engaged but they never get married. I think he is terrified of her. Another hysterical thing happened when the leader of the band Kingsfoil hired Muniz as their new drummer. He said Frankie told him he was a really famous celebrity and hoped it wouldn't get in the way of their music. The guy said he had never heard of him, Malcolm in the Middle, Cody Banks, or anything else he had been in, the guy told the reporter interviewing him that "I guess he was supposed to be some kind of child star or something." A couple of years ago Muniz had back-to-back mini-strokes, something really weird for someone in his 20's. He claimed that he was really healthy and had never done drugs, drank booze or smoked in his entire life. A week later a series of photos turned up in a British tabloid of Muniz smoking and drinking with a group of young people, presumably after telling them that he is really, really famous. Frankie also shoots his mouth off on Twitter about his right-wing politics. All in all, Frankie Muniz is a pathetic dweeb. I never could stand Malcolm, Reese was much cooler! -- Submitted By: (spacer) on September 6, 2015, 1:05 pm

Fear the Walking Dead - TV Shows
Man, what a disappointment! We waited all summer for the Walking Dead prequel and it turns out to be little more than a soap opera about a bunch of very unlikable people! Are we supposed to care if Nick the Junkie gets clean and stays off smack? I was rooting for a walker to eat his face off but there are so few of them on this show, it's not very likely to happen. The mom and dad are both major league jerks, Nick's sister is a lying, scheming little monster, and dad's other son who lives with a different mommy is such a creep his own mother's nickname for him is Mr. Unpleasant. Man, what I wouldn't give for some good ol' fashioned zombie ass stomping! -- Submitted By: (spacer) on September 3, 2015, 4:21 pm

Henry Danger - TV Shows
According to the younguns in my family, this is THE show right now. Smaller kids love the splashy colors, sounds, and action. Older kids and adults realize it's a send up of the super hero genre and appreciate the double and triple entendres, some of which are seriously funny. Sort of a live action Underdog with a half-witted and inept super hero but who is still lovable and manages to do the right thing almost every time. They ridicule the whole Clark Kent/Superman thing almost every episode when Henry puts on a cheesy mask that leaves his eyes, nose, mouth, and hair exposed and nobody, including his own sister and his best friend don't recognize him. -- Submitted By: (martymarty) on September 2, 2015, 4:47 pm

Family Affair (1966) - TV Shows
This was one the several shows where a hair change was better--Cissy\'s hairdos improved..I liked her more older look...(I was on the Cosby Show board and they made the very good usual point of a hairstyle point not changing...) This show rocked back and forth from being a comedy and a drama, but then so did all of the pre-70s shows by a number of studios, including Screen Gems, and the studio and that made this, and My 3 Sons, and the forgotten To Rome with Love, (aka MTS with girls!), the independent Don Fedderson Productions, which, BY THE WAY, did the original versions of two of the most iconic music shows of the era! But one of the most underrated of the family members themselves (the original 9) is MARCIA Brady. Yes..she is MUCH MALIGNED..Marcia, Marcia, marcia. Hmmm. Nobody is likable on this show anymore. All the kids are obnoxious, Cam and Mitchell are tiresome old cliches, Gloria and Jay, ho hum, she's just waiting for him to die, and Phil and Claire are boring, boring, boring. Gumby - TV Shows
Gumby (and I am the one that submitted this) boned in 1984-88 when Clokey made those new episodes, re-scored due to payment issues over the stock cues (even though for about ANOTHER DECADE or so they were still available, scale price and stuff notwithstanding). In addition to this: 1) music replaced not even by similiar music or such used on the new episodes but replaced by baby like synth music 2) HORRIBLE, slicked up designs for Pokey (my namesake.) and redseign of Gumby and Goo, unneccesary character additions (and the 1992 movie, released a few years later, only made this worse) Some may say that the 1967 addition of the "nope" Nopey a "Cousin Oliver" type character. Others may say it for Professor Kapp, Prickle dinosaur (whose appearance in the earlier 80s merchandising, predating the abovementioned soundtrack redo, MUST Have reflected the new dinosaur craze!) and little blue Goo, that these wrecked the series way back in 1966. I actually like these... Gumby's eyes changing in 1957 to the flat ones was the big change, though Gumby and Pokey had some recasting (Art Clokey thru 1957, then 1962-68 Dal McKennon), and Gumby had LOTS of Same Character, Different actor case (from the old Scottish Site, Jump the Shark's vernacular).-McKennon was one who played Gumby in 1962-66 then Norma MacMillan, whose daughter is ALLISON ARNGRIN, b----ch Nellie Olsen from Little House...so not just Nellie but her actress's mom did something mean, Norma MacMillan in this case, in replacing someone as Gumby (Just joking about Ms.MacMillian being "mean). For some reason, the second version in 1960-62 didn't have the villainous Blockheads (aptly named and with right head shapes with G on one "block"-head, and J on the other, neither talking) but in 1967 they returned.. Anyway, I widely preferred the original to the later ones...made in 1987-92.. (the following from the old "Scottish Site" with my comments added) (quote) Remember when Gumby's voice was "girlishly high"...(of the remake) when Gumby was a "teen"..in a squeaky-clean format (unqote here) Gumby as a "teen" started in 1961 to take hold ("Hot rod Granny", right down to the "groovy" stock music which was unqiue to this episode), and the format always applied....so it's kind of redundant.. (quote) Remember those early episodes? (unquote here) Absoulely I do..and I did put information like the music and some other things in the old Jump the shark entry for this.. -- Submitted By: (PokeyJHorse) on August 16, 2015, 2:41 pm

What's New, Scooby Doo? - TV Shows
Not really into Scooby-Doo, (outside season 1, maybe..) but I loved late 50s-1960s Hanna-Barbera, and like anyone else's shows, theatrical short cartoons, or movies, there were recoginzable, and, yes, BELOVED, trademarks, including soundtrack. One of the most recognisable and distinctive things about Hanna-Barbera, just like MGM, WB (their current parent!), Disney, etc. is the underscore background music, regardless who did it, but by the early 1980s it was totally shot (their original composers alone had largely included since 1961 when they went-all original had been Hoyt Curtin, and when SD premiered in Sept.1969, Ted Nichols and Marty Paitch (musical director for everyone from Toto to Babs Streisand!!!!!) did music,too.. But when the 1980s, and 90s in particular came by, the background music had been shot to hell largely. By the time the 1994 Arabian Knights Scooby (don't ask!) came by, LOONEY TUNES style music, and the big noisy "Animanaics/Tiny Toon Adventures" type, had came by, then that and the metal rock music occured here, as some have said (I personally myself have not watched these..see, the first five words of this comment...) then the sound effects had been changed (I DID hear enough of TAHT few times that I saw this..) And popular alternative band Simple Plan?????? -- Submitted By: (PokeyJHorse) on August 11, 2015, 11:50 pm

I used to never miss this show since it was so unfathomably bad and wrong that it was hard for me to avert my eyes, like a show from an alternate reality where being a closedminded bigoted psycho was normal human behavior. S#*! My Dad Says - TV Shows
Just a poorly made idiotic show. The writing was terrible and Bill Shatner was a poor casting choice. He's perfect in the role of a starship captain or an arrogant blowhard like Denny Crane on Boston Legal but playing a grumpy old conservative who sits on the couch all day is out of his range. He's known for being much more youthful than his years so he is a poor pick to play an old curmudgeon. -- Submitted By: (loverocket) on July 23, 2015, 6:25 am

In Living Color - TV Shows
The show really tanked when Jim Carrey left. Keenan leaving hurt the show but Jim leaving with others left a new unfunny cast to fend for themselves. I Love Lucy - TV Shows
Moving to Connecticut killed the show. Does anyone consider any of the Connecticut episodes among their favorites? Hallmark TV reruns the show and thankfully never shows those. Great cartoon that never went bad. It was one of the longest running Saturday morning cartoons ever yet they kept it fresh. Game, The - TV Shows
Talk about a great show gone bad. I was really excited when The Game came back on the air on BET and it had the highest rated show BET ever had but it really went downhill. They moved to a more cinematic camera rather than the 3 camera sitcom format and it became too dramatic. It was too dark with Malik's drug addiction. I also hated how they wrote out Kelly, possibly because having a white person on BET didn't fit the format; I remember they had the whole cast do a promo thing on 106 & Park and everyone was there but the actress who played Kelly. They also cut Jason's time down significantly as the actor Coby Bell was on Burn Notice at that time, he was the best character. I ended up wishing they never brought it back. -- Submitted By: (loverocket) on July 23, 2015, 5:56 am

Mythbusters - TV Shows
Mythbusters jumped the shark years ago. A bunch of "kids" pretending to be "experts". And it all ends with an explosion. What a waste of time. -- Submitted By: (JustLooking) on July 22, 2015, 1:43 am

My Wife and Kids - TV Shows
Just a bad show. Damon is annoying as a generally mean spirited dad with an annoying bully of a wife. Even the title is unbelievably generic. I hated how the early episodes had a dark skinned girl play the teen daughter but then they recast her with a lighter skinned actress, so creepy. -- Submitted By: (loverocket) on July 21, 2015, 12:27 am

How I Met Your Mother - TV Shows
@ChubbyRain (3/25/09): Actually, I think that NPH's playing a womanizer on the show while being gay in real life speaks well of his acting ability. -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on July 20, 2015, 8:00 am

I Love Lucy - TV Shows
The ill will (to put it VERY mildly) between Vance and Frawley was mutual. Professionals that they were, though, they did the job anyway. Just one of the reasons why the show still rocks. -- Submitted By: (Mythigator) on July 20, 2015, 7:57 am

My Three Sons - TV Shows
"Uncle CHarley wiping wrong end of Dodie" Uncle Charley and the in-laws should, as additions and replacements, be cited as shark jumpers, or fish boning categories...though it only started boning in late 60s right before Dodie. (PS I REALLY laugh at how folks attack Scrappy-Doo on Scooby when the whole original foursome were the least inspiried Hanna-Barbera chaarcters, coincidentally, in 1969, since that's when Dodie came. Though as My Three Sons was wworth watching, that may be a reason all the same to resent Dodie for killing it..Scooby, which came on at the same time as did Dodie, was crap from the start, so addiung Scrappy as a "shark jumoer" doesn't matter. -- Submitted By: (PokeyJHorse) on July 19, 2015, 10:25 pm

I Love Lucy - TV Shows
It was Vance that couldn't stand Frawley. He was twenty years her senior and Vance (as his stage wife) wanted no part of that. In some of the episodes, you can see the hate emanating from her eyes towards Frawley. -- Submitted By: (JustLooking) on July 19, 2015, 9:10 pm

Girlfriends - TV Shows
I literally couldn't care less about this show, but Icemouth's comment is as good a boning reason as any other I've seen. When I read it an involuntary 'What?!" escaped my lips. Now THAT was bad (the moment, not the post). -- Submitted By: (DolFan316) on July 19, 2015, 1:46 pm

Did I see someone post something about the "sexual tension" between Fred and Ethel?! I read that William Frawley hated Vivian Vance so much that he had it written into his contract that his shaky, alcoholic hands would never touch her. -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on July 19, 2015, 12:22 pm

I Love Lucy - TV Shows
I have seen almost every episode of this show, zillions of times as they show it 24/7 on every channel and Nick at Nite.. and hands down this show definitely took the plunge when they did the move to Connecticut thing. That was just telling everyone that they had run out of ideas and focus with the show so maybe a new setting will give us some new ideas. (IE. Fred and chicken raising, nosey neighbors, country living references) and IMHO that bombed big time as it lead to the total demise of the show while adding little Ricky was annoying as well it definitely didn't kill the show nor did the trip to California or Europe as they had some good moments there. But once they got to CT. UGH! The show was over and died a painful death as theres not one funny CT episode. The whole idea was that they were a New York family and living in the Mertz's apartment. Now Fred and Ethyl moved to CT too with them? WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ABOUT?! I'm not even going to get into what is wrong about that. -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on July 19, 2015, 12:15 pm

I Love Lucy - TV Shows
What's up with the complaints about the birth of little Ricky? Gee whiz she was pregnant and they were married in real life what could be more natural? What would've been the alternative? How about a really funny episode where Lucy and Ethel sneak off to New Jersey so Lucy can get an abortion? Give me a break. -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on July 19, 2015, 12:11 pm

Golden Girls, The - TV Shows
I don't think GG ever really Jumped The Shark, but at some point it did start to lose steam. I think it was around Season 5 when the show got new writers. It started off as a being about real issues older people face but then the outlandish relatives appeared, the character traits became more caricature-ish and redundant (Rose dumb and tells a story about St. Olaf, Blanche slut, Dorothy can't get a date, Sophia makes smart remark and tells a story about Sicily etc.) It's easy to tell when the show is losing its grip on reality- the girls seem to wear more elaborate, expensive nighties and wear heels and a lot of makeup before bedtime. And their schtick became formulaic and repetitive. -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on July 19, 2015, 11:59 am

This was not a Shark Jump moment but remember when everyone got mad at Lynn's sister Tanya because she told Joan how it was, and sung the n word along with everyone else in Ronnie's salon. Um, it was so obvious she was just singing along with the Jay Z song and was not trying to be derogatory. But suddenly everyone's opinion of her changed like she had rode in on a horse wearing a white sheet. And didn't I hear Maya call her a wigger when they first met her? That's not derogatory? -- Submitted By: (Icemouth) on July 19, 2015, 11:51 am

Eight Simple Rules - TV Shows
I laughed when I saw Pokey's comment that the Big Bang Theory is "almost dead." The show remains, even deep into summer reruns, the highest rated show on TV (source: TV By The Numbers). I agree it has become stale and I miss as many episodes as I watch but the show is hardly "almost dead." Any show that can annihilate ratings juggernauts like Big Brother with a 3rd run repeat definitely has a loyal fan base that will still watch in it's 25th season (shudder). Just ask the Simpsons. -- Submitted By: (spacer) on July 18, 2015, 6:22 am

The story for the finale is really dumb when you think about it...Zack Morris is going to attend Yale but almost doesn't graduate high school because of a credit that nobody notices until a week before school is out. Six Million Dollar Man - TV Shows
I said Day 1, mainly because it didn't make sense to show all the superhuman/robotic feats in slow motion. A. it looks ridiculous, and B. the guy is supposed to be running 60 miles an hour, throwing stuff to infinite distances, etc., and they're dumbing it down and not accentuating it with the slow mo. Obviously they did it because they didn't really have/make the technology to make the stuff seem possible, but the logic of showing it in slow motion just feels completely backwards to me. -- Submitted By: (MvGSports) on July 17, 2015, 10:33 pm

Good Times - TV Shows
Season 5 is when this really jumped the shark...no parents, subpar storylines, a 4-parter about Penny getting abused was pretty disturbing, and it kind of became a variety show for everyone to showcase their "other talents"...Michael singing, Thelma dancing, Willona singing, Bookman doing impressions/impersonations. In season 6, it too felt like they ran out of ideas, Ben Powers was not a good actor/fit for the show and seemingly was only brought on to do impressions/impersonations. I thought they really had some momentum coming out of season 4, but they could never keep the cast together and season 5 was the clear beginning of the end. -- Submitted By: (MvGSports) on July 17, 2015, 10:16 pm

Come October 11th I will have on my Daryl vest, have my Carol "made from scratch" cookies, my Carl #10 can of chocolate pudding, and my Rick Grimes beat-down stick all ready to go. The reason people love this show is because it is ridiculous! The plots are thin, the gore extreme, and the acting is mediocre. Still, god help me, I would never miss an episode. Escapist TV should be just that, escapist! So, suspend your disbelief peoples and let Season 6 roll! -- Submitted By: (spacer) on July 15, 2015, 5:09 pm

Big Bang Theory - TV Shows
Oh please kill this show before it turns into Two and a Half Men! A show about aging comic book nerds was cute for a while. A show about middle aged dorks and their assorted wives and significant others is not cute, it's painful. The rare appearance by Will Wheaton is the only reason I would ever watch it now. -- Submitted By: (spacer) on July 15, 2015, 4:26 pm

Mr. Robot - TV Shows
Ok, ok, this is one of those shows where you never know if the action is inside the main character's head or actually happening. Too much to figure out, plus Elliot is a creep, I have zero sympathy for the guy and kinda hope he gets whacked, which isn't likely considering he's the star of the show. Mr. Robot played by Christian Slater is demented and delusional. Does he think seriously the world economy will collapse due to a banking hack? Does he think all the rich people will gleefully give up their hordes of cash, precious metals and jewels and redistribute everything equally? Marxism is cute but it doesn't work. Humans are and always will be greedy bastards! -- Submitted By: (spacer) on July 15, 2015, 4:22 pm

For me the first sign of real trouble was their utterly brain-dead idea of single-click bookmarking. Sure, you could bookmark in a single click by clicking the star next to the URL, but to get to the bookmark later you had to open a special hidden-away "unsorted bookmarks" folder. No option to simply add them to the bookmarks menu (or any other location of choice), earlier it didn't show up under Bookmarks at all, and I still need a third-party add-on to make it expand as other menus (instead of opening in a separate window). I can only presume the person behind this misfeature later got sacked and joined the Windows 8 design team. -- Submitted By: (Axel) on July 13, 2015, 3:05 pm

I put it down more to getting older and mellowing out, which we've seen with Letterman, Carson, and so on. Captain Planet and the Planeteers - TV Shows
Were Michael Moore or Susan Sarandon writers on the show LOL? and NAME voices?? The show seemed very anti-authority. Regarding Chubby Rain's comment, Migthy orbots was only good in giving Sherry Alberoni (Alexandra the beeyotch on Josie) and Julie Bennett (Cindy bear in Yogi Bear, various such as Sagebrush Sally on Quick Draw, etc.) from older Hanna-Barbera new voice work. Finally, mentioning corporate business would be slander and even worse (as jconifer7 says, no sponsors if such happened.) -- Submitted By: (PokeyJHorse) on July 10, 2015, 3:15 am
