Bone The Fish - Most Recent Comments!

Who said you can't coin your own term? What is "Boning the Fish"? It's a moment. A defining moment when you know that your favorite TV Show, Celebrity, Movie Series or Music Group has reached its peak. That instant you know from now on...it's all downhill. Some call it a climax of sorts. We call it "Boning the fish". From that moment on things will simply never be the same.

Simpsons, The - TV Shows
When Frank Grimes died. There are so many reasons why the Simpsons boned. I won't talk about all of them here. However, when Frank Grimes died, that was it for me. Before then, the big draw of the Simpsons for me was that I could kind of relate to the characters, and root for them. They weren't perfect, and they had flaws, but they were mostly natural flaws that many well meaning people have in real life. The Frank Grimes episode threw all of that out the window. The Simpson family went from being well intended if not misguided and all too human, to being out and out criminally malfesant monsters. Most of the laughs I got from the Simpsons, I got because I could say that that could be me or someone I know all to easily. It was funny cause it was true. However in the Frank Grimes episode, a boundary got crossed. I couldn't see myself in Homer's situation, couldn't see the humor in it at all. One would have to WORK to be that stupid, to the point where I couldn't laugh about it because it probably was true, rather I was disgusted at how cruel and out of character Homer and the Simpsons were. Have there been more fillets in the series? Most definitely, but for me, this is when I quit watching. -- Submitted By: (castaghast) on April 15, 2009, 8:59 pm

I don't think it BTF but I am getting a little tired of the series on Ax-men and Ice Road truckers, at least Nostradamus has something to do with history, I don't doubt that lumberjacks are a vital part of our economy but they are not making history. -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 15, 2009, 8:52 pm

I just read up on the "racism" speech by Whoopi on the DVD's, what an obnoxious piee of politically correct nonsense. Thanks Whoopi, now go wear blackface with Ted Danson. These Cartoons rule, go back to your PC fortress in Hell... Whoopi. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 15, 2009, 8:49 pm

Dragon Ball - TV Shows
Boned from Day 1. Dragon Ball (and the entire Dragon Ball series) takes what good anime does best and shits all over it: namely telling a good story without western restrictions, and bringing it to an end. Dragon Ball does none of that. Make no mistake, there IS a story in there somewhere, however you're going to have to sit through 250+ episodes, around 225 of which are nothing but still frames, recaps, strobe screens, and speed lines, to find it, and when you do, it isn't really worth it. Once upon a time on a website similar to this that I don't care to mention, I had a spark of divine inspiration, and I wrote out all the reasons that I thought Dragon Ball sucked in a composition that I personally thought was a literary masterpiece. =p Of course this was when the series was still on Cartoon Network. At this point I just do not care, and the series is so bad for so many reasons, that it just isn't worth watching, even for critique purposes, period. A large book could be written about how bad Dragon Ball is. Many people hear anime fans complain about how bad Dragon Ball is, and they probably wonder "can it be that bad." Yes, it is. The basic plot of Dragon Ball is this: protagonist is seeking special item. Protagonist and his friends go to find special item. Protagonist gets in a fight with someone also looking for special item. This fight lasts anywhere from around 10-15 episodes on average (or 220 to 330 minutes, far longer than most motion pictures). Protagonist either wins, or is stalemated somehow to where they are ineffectual, but not out of the story. Then said protagonist decides to learn a new technique to further their quest. Cue another 220 minutes of learning the technique that doesn't really add anything to the story. Then protagonist goes back on the road to find said item. Another fight ensues, another 10-15 episode "story arc" begins. Depending on how much suspense the "creator" of this garbage wants to build up, they may do this several times before the menace is finally defeated. All in all, the heroes may only travel 6 blocks to get to their goal, and the in show time might be 10 minutes, but probably something like a twelve hundred minutes might be animated just to get to that point, and maybe 2 hours of that might be actual plot movement. The worst part about this is that this show inspired a whole load of bad manga derived shows that are composed of nothing but plot filler. One Piece, Shaman King, InuYasha, Detective Conan, shows where absolutely nothing interesting happens from episode 2 to episode 354, and you can literally tune out several hundred episodes, tune back in, and so long as you understand that so and so's super attack power level has a couple more zeros behind it now, you won't have missed anything. Bottom line, this show and series is garbage. -- Submitted By: (castaghast) on April 15, 2009, 8:49 pm

Looney Tunes & Merrie Melodies - Movie Series
The cartoons are great, but the series jumped once the higher ups decided to go PC and open one of their DVDs with Whoopi Goldberg warning about how "racial caricatures" are wrong . Some things aren't about race, and even if these cartoons were racist (very unlikely) in today's multicultural society people are far less likely to see race in something as simple as a cartoon. (Save for the Jesse Jackson crowd.) -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 15, 2009, 8:47 pm

Jurassic Park - Movie Series
First, please spare us the 4th movie, have some respect for Circhton's memory. The 2nd movie was certainly the dropping off point for the movie, they took a fair (not as good as the original of course) book and turned into environmentalist propaganda. -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 15, 2009, 8:42 pm

Austin Powers - Movie Series
The first film had a few funny phrases and scenes, and then as more came out- you just realized how un-funny Mike Myers actually was, one joke, rinse and repeat, and then be told it is funny again and again. Once the "Love Guru" came out, I think Austin Powers #1 looked even more like a complete fluke that it was tolerable. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 15, 2009, 8:39 pm

American Dad! - TV Shows
Perhaps my politics prevents me from being objective but I just don't think an(nother) entire series dedicated to bashing middle America and family values is necessary. King of the Hill - TV Shows
The show boned the fish when Cotton Hill died. The way they killed him off was stupid and the show stopped being funny after that episode. King of the Hill grew on me as I became familiar with the characters and I think it's brilliant, except for the last couple of seasons. I'm glad they canceled it because now it can't deteriorate any further. -- Submitted By: (GranApp) on April 15, 2009, 11:27 am

Alien Movies - Movie Series
A clear BTF moment-the first five minutes of the third film. Characters from the 2nd film die off camera- and Aliens- SOMEHOW- survive to make it into this film (with no explanation- then a long boring story about an all male prison on a moon- Ripley then dies. And it just gets worse- Sigourney Weaver HAD to be in the 4 th film (for no good reason) as a CLONE!! And then there is the atrocious "Alien Baby" that some writer was actually paid to make up. Don't even get me started on the crap fest Alien V. Predator films. But the first 00:00:01 of the 3rd film- Alien3 - was a clear as day "bone the fish" moment. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 15, 2009, 9:39 am

Metallica - Music Groups
I disagree with GP Shaw on this, Metallica "Boned" so long ago- 1991, that to many people, the post "boned" Metallica, or should I say "Alternica" has become much longer lived than the actual "Pre-Bone" era band, that the general public has just become used to the suckage. Black Album was definitely the tipping point to them "Boning the Fish" ...Load, Re-Load, St Anger- all just altenative/ Nu Metal Garbage. Now they have "Death Magnetic" and are "hard" again? I just saw these "Metal" guys in an issue of People Magazine at the doctor. The reason I hate Metallica as a metal fan is that they have become the "Default" metal band for the general public, which annoys me to no end when they are just a bunch of non metal sellouts. I was in a tour of a large publicly funded construction project two months ago with some architects, and a worker had a cd of Pantera on, and the lead engineer asked him to turn that music down, since "Metallica" wasnt appropriate for a jobsite. I wanted to tear my eyes out. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 15, 2009, 6:04 am

Office, The - TV Shows
OK, so Pam and Jim fell in love....I got nervous, but so far it has not ruined the show. But, The Michael Scott Paper Company?! The show has left the railed and totally boned the fish. Heroes - TV Shows
OK, so season one and, the tiny bit of two we had, were great. Then, the writers went on strike, so no more season two. After strike, Season three, the writers must have been so happy to be back at work that they partied all the time and no one communicated with each other. I watched every week, without interest, and I STILL have no idea what went on. It was confusing and a mish-mash of plots, subplots, stories, substories, and mass confusion. Season four started promising, but is already losing momentum with confusing characters (no powers, then suddenly powers with no explanation) and a confusing plot. I guess I will stay tuned, but I am pretty sure the show officially boned in season three. -- Submitted By: (VeeGee) on April 14, 2009, 9:58 pm

Ally McBeal - TV Shows
Officially boned when Ally had a 'daughter' from egg donation in college. Jon Bon Jovi joined the cast and the show went downhill fast. I barely tuned in for the rest of the show until the end. And the end totally boned...No wrap up and no happiness for an increasingly depressed Ally. Sad really and cheesy on the part of the writers. -- Submitted By: (VeeGee) on April 14, 2009, 9:50 pm

Price Is Right, The - TV Shows
You know the best part was when both "showcase showdown" people boned the fish and over bid, and NOBODY WON!! Then that downbeat horn noise indicating you "lost" it was great! And of course the greatest game show diss of all time- "ONE DOLLAR"- that was just too sly when someone pulled that card, or theeven coller , but extremely rare "TWO DOLLARS" after a $1 bid!!! -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 14, 2009, 5:08 pm

Google - Websites
Google, it seems, has boned the fish. It has been overtaken, left standing, and not by some new startup of ultra smart MIT alumni or by the gazillions in the Microsoft development budget, but by the deeply unhip and previously discounted Yahoo. -- Submitted By: (Hikariu) on April 14, 2009, 2:48 pm

Facebook - Websites
A lot of people say that Facebook has boned the fish. That's flat out wrong. In fact, Facebook is now being devoured by the shark. There's so much blood in the water, it's attracting other sharks. And if Facebook's not careful, one of them is bound to come along and finish it off. Max Headroom - TV Shows
I think they had a neat concept with CGI and the whole Matt Frewer thing going on, and tried to tie it all into a "William Gibson" Cyberpunk flair, but like you said- there was almost no substance to this show, just sizzle, and being 9 or 10 at the time, I was mesmerized. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 14, 2009, 11:03 am

Max Headroom - TV Shows
Even back then, I didn't get the hype. He was okay for short periods (e.g. those cola commercials) but an entire show built around him?! Brady Bunch, The - TV Shows
SaraGoodwich, I don't agree that Cousin Oliver was 'hilarious' but I respect your POV. However; I have to call out your contention that he was from Mike's side. No, in his intro episode, they make it clear he was from Carol's side so that would explain his resemblence to the girls. -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on April 14, 2009, 9:50 am

Star Trek TNG - TV Shows
I just remembered another item that made no sense on the show- TOO MUCH HOLODECK. Jeepers- these guys were on this thing screwing around all the time, and it made too many stupid stories- (Data as Sherlock Holmes?) that were not what a warship in space would be doing. But the biggest gaffe with the Holodeck was the episode where one of the background characters made a holodeck program of a picnic date with Dr. Crusher, and everyone was shocked & offended. Look at how the internet is chock full of Porn- if you had a HOLODECK, imagine how out of control and full of real life shenanigans it would be, and this never comes up, but Worf has a virtual Klingon Church there? Wha? BTF moments all over for that... -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 14, 2009, 7:16 am

Two and a Half Men - TV Shows
The show was SUPPOSED to be raunchy, that's what makes it different from standard chick-shows: it's written for MEN. I think it BTF when Jake grew up and got fat, so they followed the standard TV-formula of making him stupid and giving him a hot girlfriend like every other chick-show out there. It also jumped when Charlie got engaged, and Berta started getting soft and intellectual instead of minding her place as the show's atypical "sarcastic domestic." -- Submitted By: (SarahGoodwich) on April 14, 2009, 5:23 am

Tom Cruise - Celebrities
He looks like a squint-eyed gopher with gum-disease and who smiles like Arsenio Hall; and the fact that he's rich and famous as an actor, simply makes sense that the US has the lowest test-scores of any nation that also has movies. -- Submitted By: (SarahGoodwich) on April 14, 2009, 5:14 am

Brady Bunch, The - TV Shows
Cousin Oliver was hilarious, but it didn't maked any sense that he only showed up once, or that he came from Mike Brady's side of the family when he looked like Carol Brady's fourth daughter. Anyway the entire series was too dumb to remember, but it was a kid's show so I could tolerate it then. Now I can only watch it with a clamp on my cranium in order to stop the blood-flow to the upper part of my brain, and otherwise keep my head from exploding. -- Submitted By: (SarahGoodwich) on April 14, 2009, 5:08 am

OJ Simpson - Celebrities
OJ is a homocidal maniac, pure and simple. He had money, talent and fame, so there's no other explanation for his jealous rage that caused him to decapitate his wife and silence the witness. It's just too bad that "L.A. Law" enforcement is so pathetic with their racist cops and inompetent prosecutors that they can't even convict someone who's literally caught red-handed. -- Submitted By: (SarahGoodwich) on April 14, 2009, 4:59 am

Britney has no talent, personality or identity WHATSOEVER. She is just another big-music corporate mascot persona, who could be replaced with a single phone-call by a studio-exec faster than you could say "Hannah Montana." Friends - TV Shows
The entire show was a "mixed-gender, twenty-something loser's club" of men and women who were all "friends" despite having absolutely nothing in common, and having no other real social-contacts despite constantly changing lives and relationships. It's just a dorky, brain-dead, politically-correct fantasy that doesn't happen, and which seemed to typify the 90's-era lack of direction that defined the Bill Clinton-generation. In real life, men and women are usually only friends as couples; otherwise there's usatlly an ulterior motive like man secretly trying to further the relationship while the woman seeks male companionship without reciprocity. This should have been more accurately called "Clique," but only because the name "Imaginary Friends" was already taken by ANOTHER cartoon . -- Submitted By: (SarahGoodwich) on April 14, 2009, 4:42 am

MTV: Music Television - Random Topics
I feel sorry for those not old enough to remember when it started with those cool loft and diner sets with veejays who actually seemed to consider it a priviledge to come into our homes. Let's not forget the lunar astronaut with the MTV flag that changed patterns and colors constantly. Oh yeah, and they played music videos back then virtually all the time. When they struck those cool sets, got rid of the rockin' veejays and dumbed+ cut down the music videos, they lost me. Of course, I still never quite have forgiven them for disillusioning me about cable television when I saw it had COMMERCIALS. I mean, I thought that (since it was paid for by viewers) it wouldn't NEED commercials. Ha Ha! -- Submitted By: (Pelirojo) on April 12, 2009, 1:36 pm

War of the Worlds (1989 Series) - TV Shows
A really good show that came on the heels of ST:TNG syndication success of the late 80's. Hercules was also part of this cluster of cable shows that were all syndicated, and surprisingly were pretty good Television. This show was scary and creative it's first season, and if you managed to catch it, it was a fun continuation of the 1950's George Pal Movie adaption from the original book by HG Well's. The second season got destroyed by a cut budget and sheapened story lines to try to cover the shortfalls in the funding. However, the first sesason is still osme great 80's sci fi goodness. -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 12, 2009, 12:41 pm

Animaniacs - TV Shows
The opening sequence was hysterical. I loved the lyric changes that were done for the adult audience. My favorites were "while Bill Clinton plays the sax" and - since it was right at the height of China Beach's popularity, "totally insaney, Dana Delaney" they also did a spoof of the theory that the works of Shakespeare were actually written by Francis Bacon - a pig running aroung the set of Hamlet asking "did I write this?" Bloody brilliant, if you ask me. Best cartoon ever. -- Submitted By: (creatrix) on April 12, 2009, 11:19 am

Really, I think the end of season 7 would have been a good series end without the shot of all of the luggage. Season 8 & 9 would have been good if they were a new show, but instead of seeing these for the great stories that they were, all I was seeing was a big lack of Mulder. There were a few storylines that I could have done without earlier in the series - but I think David Duchovny leaving the show was the real fishboner. -- Submitted By: (creatrix) on April 12, 2009, 9:11 am

Tales of the Gold Monkey - TV Shows
It's odd how this has never come out on DVD. They put out shitty little shows that get cancelled in the middle of the first season, but not TotGM. -- Submitted By: (rick283) on April 11, 2009, 7:12 am

My Super Sweet 16 - TV Shows
This show could be used as a training video fro militant anti-American groups to stir up suicidal fanatics to attack the Good 'Ole US of A. Seriously, you watch this show and hate every single person on it with a passion- these people actually live in our country? -- Submitted By: (Chubby Rain) on April 10, 2009, 8:39 pm

My Super Sweet 16 - TV Shows
True though there is a "spin off" where the brats are sent off to 3rd world countries to live for awhile although I think a good spanking back when they were kids would have done a lot better... -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 10, 2009, 6:58 pm

2 Stupid Dogs - TV Shows
Never even heard of this show. -- Submitted By: (rick283) on April 10, 2009, 2:07 pm

Heroes - TV Shows
I've only seen the pilot and didn't care for it. But the reason I'm commenting is to point out that the title is misspelled (it should be "Heroes", not "Heros"). -- Submitted By: (Kenshiroh) on April 10, 2009, 8:55 am

Dancing With the Stars - TV Shows
Show gives viewer a chance to see how "Celebs" act in a world outside their "comfort zone". Never thought I would have positive feeling for Little Kim and Steve-o. Kudos to their sincere efforts. Some "Celebs" come up short -- viewers will never forget the Master P debacle. I enjoy evaluating the performances and checking out the costumes. -- Submitted By: (MamaThunder) on April 10, 2009, 8:31 am

My Super Sweet 16 - TV Shows
Only seen a eps because I was practically forced to. It seems that a lot of people there are spoiled rotten. -- Submitted By: (kitchenbreak) on April 10, 2009, 7:36 am

MTV: Music Television - Random Topics
I don't know why they call it Music Television. I can't remember when this all started but now "MTV" has terrible shows like Room Raiders and other monstrous dating shows. They only shows I like to watch on MTV are Americas Best Dancecrew and sometimes MADE. -- Submitted By: (kitchenbreak) on April 10, 2009, 2:11 am

JumptheShark.com - Websites
Once upon a time there was a website. The website was intelligent, provoking, funny and more. Then at the end of January 2009 I was shocked. JTS is now a blogsite. They use terms like "Dancing with the sharks". They are using the good old topics like:A Very special, Birth, Color, Exit Stage Left and they post blogs in those topics. Bottom line TVG is using the popular website JTS.com to generate more viewers to the TV Guide website. I hope BTF becomes very popular and TVG will be very very sorry for what they did. RIP JTS January 2009. -- Submitted By: () on April 10, 2009, 2:08 am

Spider-Man - Movie Series
The third movie simply tried to do too much, Green Goblin, Sandman, AND Venom, each of those characters could be developed very well (like Doc Oc) if they were given their own movie. But they weren't so they couldn't, so the movie stunk. If there is a 4th movie they should learn from that mistake. -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 10, 2009, 1:59 am

Star Wars - Movie Series
I'd have to say the definitive boning moment was "The Clone Wars" the full on filleting came with the cartoon TV series, two terrible ideas that came about as a result of Lucas trying to milk the series for all it's worth, and pathetic fanboys who pretend to like whatever comes out... -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 10, 2009, 1:52 am

Evil Dead - Movie Series
Oh boy I'm gonna catch hell for this but, I don't see the draw to this movie. It was horrible all it was was creepy zombie screaming and a woman getting raped by trees. I know you can't expect a horror movie to be high quality but I STILL don't get the show's draw -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 10, 2009, 1:49 am

MTV: Music Television - Random Topics
M-TV Should change it's title to "The Real World/Cribs/Super Sweet 16 Variety Channel" why on earth is a show that's supposed to be dedicated to music spending so much time dealing with spoiled brats, promiscuous college students, and Scarface wannabes? -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 10, 2009, 1:18 am

JumptheShark.com - Websites
I hadn't come to JTS in awhile, and I felt like checking up to see if people's eyes had opened to how the Simpsons had become, much to my dismay I was redirected to TV guide page. "No matter" I thought "I'll just find the comments section for individual shows" After searching around I couldn't find that area, in fact i couldn't even find a voting area, all that was there was a bunch of articles written by entertainment journalists (read: people who flunked out of Columbia) on what makes a show jump the shark. I have no ill will against the original owner and I am willing to forgive TV guide, it's their site they can do what they want with it, but I think it was an extremely poor decision... -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 10, 2009, 1:16 am

Power Rangers (original) - TV Shows
I voted for never jumped, when I was in the targeted age group I loved the show, and I watched it until the end (of the original run). If I were to watch it now I might not like it but my memories of the show are pretty fond (though I didn't like the way Tommy always had to be the hero...) -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 10, 2009, 1:11 am

Clone High - TV Shows
A little known comedy show that got booted before it's time, it really was a good show but since it was on late night M-TV it was doomed. Had it been on Comedy Central or another cable channel it might have faired better -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 10, 2009, 1:08 am

Harry Potter - Movie Series
Nah, I think the series is still good, but I don't think that the 3rd movie followed the book well at all, the 4th and 5th ones did a decent enough job but cut out parts that I'd liked to have seen. The sad fact is you can't make a movie based entirely on a book, you have to take things out... -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 10, 2009, 12:37 am

Malcolm in the Middle - TV Shows
I don't the show jumped until late in it's run when Stevie got the robotic limbs and attacked Reese, that's just a bit too far for any show. Hayden Whatshername was a low point certainly but there were still a few half decent episodes after that... at least I think there were -- Submitted By: (gpshaw) on April 10, 2009, 12:35 am

Thunder Alley - TV Shows
In general, a very forgettable sitcom. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on April 9, 2009, 11:57 pm

Norm Show, The - TV Shows
This show never boned but fell victim to the "Friday Night Death Slot." ABC kept hiding this show. It had great potential. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on April 9, 2009, 11:55 pm

Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, The - TV Shows
This show was a good idea but boned because the amount of history experienced and famous people the young Indy met was impossible for anyone in their lifetime. Also, it jumped too much from child Indy to teenage Indy. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on April 9, 2009, 11:53 pm

Saturday Night Live - TV Shows
This show was bad after Clinton left office. It seemed there were no more good jokes after that. They tried to recover with the weekly Palin jokes but fell flat. The episode with Palin was the first one I had watched in about eight years and I have not watched it since then. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on April 9, 2009, 6:58 pm

Simpsons, The - TV Shows
This show has boned more times than any show. Its first was with the 1999 season. It tried to be more like South Park and Family Guy. The Simpsons had never resorted to violence and blood, but now they do that more often. There are also too many guest appearances. The movie came out about a decade later than it should have. In all, this show has been dead for about the last eight years and needs to be taken off the air. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on April 9, 2009, 6:55 pm

Still Standing - TV Shows
Wonderful show that never had a chance to bone. It two potential close calls with Linda getting married and Brian graduating but the show was canceled before that could happen. It would have been nice to have a series finale but it ended while it was on top. -- Submitted By: (MCS) on April 9, 2009, 6:52 pm
